21.01.2022 The Chief Health Officer has announced a loosening of COVID-19 restrictions for end of year events across schools. These changes take effect from today. From today, up to 500 parents and family members will be allowed to attend graduation ceremonies on school sites. For Year 10 and Year 12 graduations being held at school, the Chief Health Officer has also advised that the standard density requirement (one person per four square metres) will not need to be adhered to. This me...ans that, in most instances, parents and carers will be able to attend their child’s graduation ceremony in person. Up to 500 people will also be able to attend school formals. As with graduations, students and staff will not count towards this number for on-site formals. If a school is having an off-site formal, schools will also be able to have 500 people (including students and staff). Schools will now also have the option of including students from other schools - for example invited guests or partners - to school formals as long as the 500-person gathering limit and density requirements of one person per four square metres indoors, or one person per two square metres outdoors, are adhered to. COVID-safe practices such as physical distancing between adults (not including household groups or students from the same school), density requirements (with the exception of on-site graduations), and increased hygiene measures are still required for end of year events in schools. End of year events are part of the fabric of school life and in a year like no other, it is great news that these events are able to go ahead with more people involved. For more information on how these changes to end of years events will be applied at your school, please contact your school in the first instance. Read more: http://ow.ly/MpJd50CjfJk

11.01.2022 ACT Health is warning Canberrans about the potential for a thunderstorm asthma event in the ACT region today (Sunday 22 November) and tomorrow (Monday 23 Novemb...er). The warning comes as we see elevated pollen levels and the possibility of severe thunderstorms over the next two days, increasing the risk of a thunderstorm asthma event. People who suffer from hay fever or asthma are encouraged to be vigilant for any worsening of their condition. Thunderstorm asthma can be sudden, serious and even life threatening for people with asthma or hay fever. Protect yourself, or someone you care for, from risk by: staying indoors with windows and doors closed staying in air-conditioned premises, and if possible, switching the air conditioner to ‘recycle’ or ‘recirculate’ to reduce the amount of dust entering the building avoiding all vigorous exercise, especially if you have a heart or lung conditions If you experience asthma symptoms which are unrelieved by their usual asthma treatment, seek urgent medical advice. In the event of a medical emergency call 000. If it is safe to do so, check on elderly neighbours or people who you think might need extra help.
