24.01.2022 THE WODEN SQUASH CENTRE WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. WE APPRECIATE YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND WILL KEEP YOU INFORMED VIA THE SQUASH ACT WEBSITE AND FACEBOOK PAGE.

24.01.2022 Unfortunately, Covid-19 has won yet again, resulting in the cancellation of the Australian Junior Championships for 2020. This was due to be held at the Woden Squash Centre in September/October. For more information, visit the Squash Australia website.

24.01.2022 Squash Australia's very own star Rod Bannister launches into another explosive edition of Street Squash. Check it out! STREET SQUASH - MODIFIED GAME - Draw up a... line 2 metres from the middle of the court eg in the middle of the 4 metre width of the court across the front wall & place a marker @ the end of the measurement - Mark the 2 metre distance with whatever clearly marks the floor area eg painting crayon - Mark another distance of .5 metre directly behind the 2 metre marker on the ground - On the front wall mark a 1 metre high starting from the ground up the ‘tin’ line across the wall. This line should be 4 metres in width and meet both marked floor areas on opposite sides # Rules # - Underhand serve from outside the floor marking areas to land inside the floor marking areas - Both players start from outside the floor marked areas then move inside once the serve is completed - Once the server serves move inside all floor marked areas - After every shot you play you must move and touch the ground outside the floor marked areas either with your foot or racket before playing the next shot inside the marked areas - All shots must land inside the floor marked areas to count - Players alternate shots as they would in a normal game of squash - You win a point by winning a rally eg outright winning shot, ball goes outside floor marked areas, ball bounces twice, ball goes below tin etc. - Best of 5 games up to 15 points. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- - Don't forget to check out the website - www.street-squash.com - Be sure to jump online and get your own Street Squash gear.. 23.01.2022 The Board of Squash ACT has been regularly monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) issue with the aim of ensuring we are fully informed by advice from health authorities and government. Last night, the Board met to consider what steps should be taken in relation to the ACT Pennant Competition, and made the decision to immediately suspend the current pennant season. In consequence, this will mean junior pennant and ACT junior training will be suspended until further notice. ...With 'Coronavirus' advice moving rapidly on a daily basis, it became apparent that, for a range of reasons, pennant would be severely disrupted over these next few weeks. Players have increasingly expressed concern for their own health and for the health of those close to them including elderly parents and family members with chronic medical conditions or compromised immune systems. It is understandable that a considerable and growing number of players would be unable to commit themselves to playing each week. We have also noted that other ACT sports bodies have cancelled local competitions; other states / territories have been addressing their own pennant situation (with SA today suspending its own); and, Squash Australia postponing events involving junior players. From here, Squash ACT will commit itself to providing regular updates regarding the situation until it is deemed appropriate to reinstate the competition. Please note that the Woden Squash Centre, like other squash facilities, remains open for bookings unless further advice received means we need to close the centre. Hopefully, we aren't placed in that position. I thank you for your understanding and appreciate the disappointment this decision brings. Yours in squash, Michael Nuttall President, Squash ACT
