24.01.2022 Humans need to learn to share....

23.01.2022 This was a privalege to read. It is essential reading for a window into the beautiful landscape that we live in and why we should fight to protect and conserve it.

22.01.2022 This is pivotal as many of our insect species complete their life cycles in the ground and this is not possible where there are exotic understorey grasses which are constantly mown. This désertifies the landscape, compacts the soil. Instead they need native understorey grasses mown far less frequently.

22.01.2022 Especially at this time of year, well-meaning people can 'birdnap' -- pick up baby birds who don't need rescuing. Take the time to read this info page, thanks!

22.01.2022 The incredible world around us.

21.01.2022 A new visitor to the Fowles St Woodland Park :) The yellow admiral butterfly - vanessa to its friends :) Beautiful and accomplished flyers and lovers of fine nectar :)

20.01.2022 The writing is on the wall. Everything we do has consequences. In urban area in Canberra we have built on the most fertile soils. Parks and gardens hold the key to protecting our local biodiversity. https://butterfly-conservation.org//big-butterfly-count-20

20.01.2022 And they r not talking about mass tree plantations but the restoration of the structure and composition of plant communities. https://theconversation.com/australia-could-green-its-degra

18.01.2022 This situation is an absolute disgrace it illustrates a profound failure of the political classes in this country and the vested interests who lobby them. They should b named.

18.01.2022 There is something seriously wrong with the NSW government and the people of NSW need to do something about it.

17.01.2022 We love our marine environment on the South Coast. But right now the Government is trying to remove what few protected areas we have in the Batemans Marine Park.... But the community is coming together to protect these areas. Conservationists, scientists, tourism operators, oyster growers, abalone divers, recreational and commercial fishers, local Indigenous communities, business owners, media personalities and other members of the community are saying no to the Coalition Government's moves to remove sanctuary protections. Next Saturday 21 November I hope you can be part of a paddle-out action at Narooma to show your support for Batemans Marine Sanctuaries. Bring your board or kayak and your signs and show your support for a healthy marine environment. You can register your interest and find out more here: https://www.facebook.com/events/3506335216111374

14.01.2022 YES! Instead of wasting tens of millions of dollars on dated strategies like dumping storm water into treatment ponds Canberra should be restoring its hydrology by returning concrete drains to their original natural state as creeks, slowing water across the landscape protecting gardens and parks with local biodiversity. https://www.abc.net.au//concrete-creek-in-moone/100525776

14.01.2022 We live in an incredible ancient place :)

10.01.2022 Just unbelievable!

10.01.2022 A water source is so important in a garden. Claire Lampard has been amazed at the amazing activity & variety of visitors that her Birdsy camera has captured this summer. The birds certainly love this idyllic little spot! #Birds #WildlifePond #BirdBath #Nature

04.01.2022 Wildlife Photographer of the Year I am extremely honoured and humbled to be allowed to share (ahead of the awards ceremony on Tuesday), that from over 50,000 en...tries from 95 countries - and with the judges selecting only 100 winning images - my image ‘The deadly huddle’ has been awarded a Highly Commended in this year's prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPY) competition - Animal Behaviour category. My image shows Grey-headed Flying-foxes (Pteropus poliocephalus) suffering - panting, helpless, exhausted - and dying during an extreme heat-stress event at Melbourne's Yarra Bend flying-fox colony. A series of days when temperatures exceeded 40C. Two things I hope people will take from this image and the caption. a) Awful situations like this occur, and will become more common as a direct result of human driven climate change. b) Climate change (like most conservation issues) is not just a conservation issue, it’s also a significant animal welfare issue. If you want to help and are in Australia: - Protect and enhance their homes (e.g. forests) - Use only wildlife friendly fruit tree netting - Eliminate barbed wire near trees - Educate people how they are vital for the health of our forests, helping disperse native seed and pollen to over 100 species of flowering trees, fleshy-fruited trees and liana up and down the east coast. - Support wildlife rescue groups No matter where you call home: - Tackle climate change - Start a discussion on the negative impacts of population growth Congratulations to the winners and all the other finalists who will all be announced Tuesday night. And finally, thank you to Tamysn from Fly By Night Bat Clinic for pointing this out to me, and to all the other rescuers and Parks Victoria people who were there over several tough days trying to save them. #flyingfox #greyheadedflyingfox #fruitbat #megabat #vegetarian #keystonespecies #mammal #flyingmammal #conservation #climatechnage #animalwelafre #heatstress #clumping #conservationphotography #climatechangephotography #WPY57 #WPY #WildlifePhotographeroftheYear Wildlife Photographer of the YearInternational League of Conservation Photographers ILCP Nature Picture Library

04.01.2022 Wonderful work

04.01.2022 Hundreds of olive ridley sea turtles began their synchronized nesting, as they made their way up the beach to lay eggs in Costa Rica. https://abcn.ws/2FXPPKU

03.01.2022 The 'Nannas for Native Forests' arrived in the forest before dawn, setting up camp with a marquee, colourful banners, cups of tea and picnic chairs, determined ...to stop the logging of the South West's precious native forests. Inspired by the seven grandmothers who stopped logging earlier this month, a mass blockade is underway this morning with 40 (!!!) grandmothers and their support crew stopping logging in its tracks in Helms Forest.
