25.01.2022 And Jerry has shown how the violin ribs are attached to the corner and end blocks

25.01.2022 Hi Guild members - does anyone have experience working on live edge projects? I'm looking for a shelf like the photo attached. Thanks!

24.01.2022 More from members: Nat is part our Bush Craft SIG and is keen to share the joy of spoon carving from green wood using hand tools. Nat says:... A friend prompted me to post which are the spoons I've made that we actually use in our kitchen. Top one is a chonky handled deep scoop spoon made of banksia I got from friends in Eden - I styled it to suit a particular sautay pan I use all the time. Next is a wierd style of spatula I designed fit for purpose and just love (breaking up mince as it cooks for bolognese or chilli) made of black locust which Brendan had small bits of after processing Next is standard "cooker" (as spoon nerds call them) made from Elm that Charlie obtained for me Bottom is a deep bowled spoontula with a curved handle made from cherry which is probably my favorite wood to carve - it's soooo beautiful. This one sits just beautifully on the bench with the nice curve in the under side of the handle. See more

23.01.2022 Hi Guild Members, I am interested starting a End Grain chopping board project. Was wondering if anyone has experience in this area as I would love to problem shoot some ideas before getting started. Thanks for your help.

23.01.2022 I'm heading to Moruya tomorrow. Are there any wood suppliers down that way that I should check out?

22.01.2022 We were sent the wrong parting tool by Carrols. If any member would like to buy this from the Guild for its list price $51, please contact Rod Tier or Craig Pennifold in the next week. If there is no interest we will return to Carrolls for a refund.

21.01.2022 Thats the first of the frame glue ups completed. It was very satisfying hammering the wedges in! The proud bits will be flushed off to the face of the leg nex...t (and squeeze out chiseled off on the insides edges). Then the shelves and uprights will be joined to these side frames in the next glue up. See more

21.01.2022 The Bush Craft SIG met this afternoon at the shed. Graeme talked the group through the maths and angles of chair legs; final touches were made on Simone's shave horse; Kel has finished her stool; Nat started making a spoon and spatula; and Ray watched over us all :) If you are interested in traditional forms of woodwork using hand tools and both seasoned and green wood, check out the Bush Craft SIG.

21.01.2022 (C) I'm not sure if this post fits within the rules - but I want to draw Members' attention to some YouTube videos of woodworking in the 60s and 79s (Germany).... All hand tools, and quite interesting in their approaches, benches, and tools. 16.01.2022 A productive evening with the Musical Instrument Makers group last night. David showed his completed dulcimer, and work progressed on guitars, and Jerry and Michael worked on new violin moulds, based on the dimensions of Guarneri del Gesu instruments Guarneri instruments rival those of Antonio Stradivari. It will be fun seeing these take shape over the next few months. The moulds form the internal shape of a violin body, and are removed just prior to the final fitting of the top or back. They maintain the shape of the sides during construction.

15.01.2022 The Musical Instrument Makers group met last evening with good progress being made on the two violins and a guitar. One aspect of violin making (which also applies to guitars, or even fancy curved boxes) is bending the thin pieces of wood for the sides, or ribs, of the instrument. Jerry Everard's setup is pretty basic, but it works well, and he made a short video to show us how it's done...

05.01.2022 It was a busy day at the shed. The box makers SIG met this afternoon. More work was happening on the shed renovations. Harry took a couple of members through a bandsaw accreditation. Graeme taught a few of us to put a good burr on scrapers. And work was progressed on a hand carved stool. (And many many other projects not captured on film).
