19.01.2022 Over the next month, we will be introducing you to the ACT Young Lawyers committee. While our events are suspended for the time being, we hope our introductions will provide you with some light entertainment in the interim! ANDREW! Meet Andrew. Andrew is currently a defence lawyer with a keen interest in criminal matters, and is the committee secretary. He has been on the committee since April 2019, and can often be found at the gym (or at Molly’s bar over the weekend!) ... How would you describe your office personality? Like Bruce Willis in Die Hard. Confident enough to take on an army (only after the morning coffee though) What is your favourite part of working from home? Reducing endless travel time! When working from home, what is your favourite snack? Chicken Vindaloo. You call it lunch? That’s cute. When you can, where is your next travel destination? Egypt. Always been enamoured by the mystery of the pyramids What’s next on Netflix? More like Amazon Prime. Goliath Season 2. Season 1 was 12/10 What change do you want to see in our profession? Our profession is truly great. It is important that we forgive mistakes and take care of each other’s mental health. While we may believe and strive towards perfection, let’s not forget, we, our colleagues, and all of those around us, are only human. Help each other get through the day irrespective of whether we are on the same end or opposite ends of the bar table

18.01.2022 Over the last few months, we have introduced you to the ACT Young Lawyers Committee. Our final introduction comes from the one and only Adrian! ADRIAN Adrian is more than an insurance lawyer he is widely* known to be otherwise a decent guy. He has been on the Committee since late 2017, and specialises in organising the Christmas party (but, alas, not the unfortunate weather that usually comes with it) and CPD events.... How would you describe your office personality? Imagine if a tortoise spent most of its time in its shell and, when it popped its head out, it did so with wide, nervous eyes What is your favourite part of working from home? One day I may find out. But I imagine it will be sitting on the balcony, and working with the sky overhead When working from home, what is your favourite snack? If it is anything like my favourite snack at every other time, it will be chips When you can, where is your next travel destination? I would like to go to Vienna What’s next on Netflix? I don't watch television but I'm looking forward to finishing The Proud Tower after 'reading' it for the last couple of months at least What change do you want to see in our profession? Digital filing! Digital service! Long live the revolution! *At least somewhat widely? I hope, maybe?

16.01.2022 Over the next few months we will be introducing you to the ACT Young Lawyers committee. We hope our introductions will provide you with some light entertainment while our events are on hold. KUMU! Say hi to Kumu! Kumu is a commercial lawyer who specialises in government commercial matters, contracts and procurement. She has been on the committee since November 2017 and loves occasionally drafting a tangy event description for Young Lawyers events.... How would you describe your office personality? Friendly I am very much myself in the office. I enjoy catching up with my colleagues and having a kitchenette yarn, but I am also quite serious and methodological when it comes to my work What is your favourite part of working from home? Being able to make a pot of pasta at 11.30am and then eating it throughout the day. I sometimes make another pot at 4.30pm depending on how quickly I eat the first pot. Let me live! When working from home, what is your favourite snack? Pasta. Yes, I am aware that my snack is technically a meal (it is a meal sized portion) When you can, where is your next travel destination? Turkey, then a week on a Greek island with my partner What’s next on Netflix? Season 3 of the Sinner What change do you want to see in our profession? Creating positive, respectful and empowering work relationships between senior and junior staff. It is a hard job being a lawyer. Your team makes all the difference, and it’s important that senior lawyers display the type of leadership juniors will one day display themselves
