25.01.2022 Meet Isobel #throwbackthursday. Im Issy and last year I completed a study abroad in Ireland for 4 months. I studied at Mary Immaculate College on the west coast right near the Atlantic Ocean in a little city called Limerick. The cold winds and rainy days were outshone by Irelands breathtaking scenery, ancient castles and friendly locals. To study among the land of poets and scholars was a privilege. I met many interesting and wonderful people from around the world who are... now great friends and look forward to catching up with them in the future. By living on the doorstep of Europe, I was fortunate to travel to many different counties and learn about new cultures during the semester. I captured many photos and even better memories. I am so thankful for this opportunity; Ireland has become my home away from home and I cant wait to go back. #ireland #limerick #sidetravel #exchangestudent #homeawayfromhome #tbt @issy_peter See more

24.01.2022 Meet Allister #throwbackthursday. I study a dual Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Global Studies. I completed a semester exchange at the University of Mannheim in the south west of Germany, located near the old town of Heidelberg. Undoubtedly my greatest experience was the opportunity to travel to Morocco during the end of my studies & sampling the national culture, dishes, history & travelling to the Sahara Desert. One of my significant experiences was visiting Budapest for Christmas with some close friends from Mannheim. #universityofmannheim #sidetravel #saharadesert #budapest #tbt

24.01.2022 Meet Grace #throwbackthursday My name is Grace, and last year I went to Kiribati with ACU to complete my EDFX204 unit. The experience was probably the best of my life so far! Kiribati is an incredibly beautiful island nation, filled with gorgeous people and rich culture. It is not the kind of place that everyone is lucky enough to visit in their lives. My favourite experience was when all the Pre-Service Teachers were invited to the school social night, taking place in th...e maneaba. This social night included huge speakers, local music, no teachers, and incredible dancing from the very talented group of school kids. We were all invited (or forced, depending on who you ask) to dance and perform for the whole group. We spent hours dancing with these students, with no shoes on the rough maneaba floor. Some of us had trouble walking the next day, our feet were so sore! The hospitality, generosity and fun of the I-Kiribati people defined our entire trip. Far beyond simply an educational experience, going to Kiribati will feed your soul and change your life. #kiribati #shorttermprogram #teaching #education #changedmylife #tbt Read her full story on our Notes from Abroad page here: http://blogs.acu.edu.au//kiribati-will-feed-your-soul-and/

23.01.2022 Happy Monday all! Something fun to start your week...

22.01.2022 Meet Katy #throwbackthursday . Im Katy Tucker and I'm studying a Bachelor of Laws and Global Studies. I did an internship with the Projects abroad, human rights law office in Cape Town, South Africa. The placement involved a whole range of human rights and social justice projects. Three times a week we would participate in offering pro-bono services in legal clinics situated in disadvantage communities (commonly known as townships). I also had the chance to work with inca...rcerated youths and in womens shelters. This experience affirmed my dream to work within human rights law. It was incredibly helpful for my learning to be able to implement the skills I had been learning at university. I have returned to university feeling motivated and ready to complete my last few years. I will never forget the people who touched my heart in this beautiful city. #southafrica #capetown #placement #tbt See more

21.01.2022 One of the best things about going overseas is trying the local cuisine. 19.01.2022 Meet Lucy. My name is Lucy and I undertook UNCC300 at the ACU Rome Campus last year. I took this photo of the sunset over Rome whilst walking to dinner with my friends from the program. This lookout is right next to the ACU campus! Stunning Views!! Have a lovely weekend everyone! #Italy #Rome #View #UNCC300

18.01.2022 My name is Louise and I travelled to Rome in our winter of 2019 (Europe's Summer). I completed the International Core Curriculum UNCC300 unit over 2 weeks, while living on campus in Rome. We completed most classes in the mornings and were free to explore for the rest of the day. I loved living with other like-minded students as it made travelling so much more fun!! On one of my favourite nights, we went to the Spanish Steps and watched the locals play, and then visited all of the famous monuments at night to see them lit up. #italy #rome #uncc300 #spanishsteps

17.01.2022 Meet Brianna. Hi, Im Brianna and here are a few photos of my time in Europe when I studied UNCC300 abroad last June/July in Rome, Italy! I was lucky enough to get accepted in the program along with two of my best friends, it was the best experience ever! It is something that I am so grateful for being able to take part of especially since the COVID19 spread and the flooding in Venice. Traveling abroad was something I never thought I would do and very much out of my comfort zone, I was able to not only immerse myself in the culture and countries I visited but I also learnt a lot about myself. I recommend when the restrictions are lifted to apply for one of the amazing programs that ACU have to offer. You will not regret it x #rome #italy #uncc300 #venice #colosseum #outofmycomfortzone

17.01.2022 Hopefully, for most students studying abroad the experience will be rewarding and enjoyable, and you will come home without a hitch. However, sometimes things go wrong despite our best made plans. Meet Rochelle, she went on semester exchange to Santa Clara University, USA for semester 2, 2019. Read her advice on what to do when things go wrong here: https://bit.ly/3dINaAa

16.01.2022 Meet Louise. She is a Bachelor of Physiotherapy student who last year went to Denmark to complete her placement. Read her article on the Danish national practice of Hygge, pronounced Hoo guh, which encompasses the feeling of comfort and coziness that enhances contentment or wellbeing. Whether it be, "watching the sunrise with a warm cup of tea, creating a calming ambiance with candles, or wrapping yourself up in a warm blanket", we could all use a little Hygge in our lives right now. 16.01.2022 !!!Happy Strive to be Kind Day!!! Meet Lauren, she is a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) student who went to South Africa in 2019. 16.01.2022 Meet Georgia #throwbackthursday. Hi! My name's Georgia and I'm currently and third year student at the ACU Melbourne campus studying Speech Pathology. In June of last year, I along with some other Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy students from both Melbourne and Sydney, travelled overseas and spent a week in Vietnam. Here we spent a large amount of our time at the Can Tho University of Pharmacy and Medicine, working alongside their Medicine students, as we provide...d insight from our own studies to assist theirs. We also visited many rural and remote health clinics, that often were outside with very minimal equipment, and were the only health service around for hours. We also visited a modern stroke hospital, and were able to observe surgery take place! Whilst we completed these day trips for our studies, we also were able to visit the night markets and enjoy our time with friends. My highlight of Vietnam was definitely our final night together singing karaoke without trip leaders, something I wish I could do all over again! #vietnam #canthouniversity #healthclinics #tbt

15.01.2022 To continue our stories of the International Core Curriculum, we would like you to meet Rachael. Have a read of her blog post and see why participating in the international UNCC300 program was the best four weeks of her life: https://bit.ly/301Eznb

15.01.2022 Calling ACU students! We would like to invite you to participate in an online survey which will help us understand the impact which COVID-19 may or may not have had on your plans to study overseas. This 7-minute online survey asks a range of questions regarding current plans to undertake an international study experience and also measures your opinion on how important it is for you to have the opportunity to study overseas as part of your university experience and future empl...oyability goals. You can access the online survey via this link: https://studymove.surveysparrow.com/s/learning-ab/tt-821dc8 All responses are anonymous and will not be used to identify individual participants. The survey, organised by StudyMove, was commissioned by the IEAA Learning Abroad Network.

14.01.2022 Meet Leah #throwbackthursday I'm @leahtids and last year I attended an exchange semester at #thehagueniversity in the #Netherlands as part of my Global Studies course. It was an unbelievable experience that I am so thankful for. The Netherlands is in the most amazing location and it easy to travel all across Europe. One of the best parts about studying here was the opportunity to travel to #Brussels (the location of the European Parliament) as part of the many courses that we studied covering the EU. A group of friends I made in the course decided to turn what was meant to be a one-day field trip with our lecturer into a weekend away full of awesome memories. We rented bikes and travelled all over the city including visits to the famous #atomium and #montdesarts. And obviously also ate our body weight in Belgium #waffles.

14.01.2022 Meet Sophia. #throwbackthursday My name is Sophia and Im studying a Bachelor of Education (Primary) at Strathfield campus. I completed UNCC300 in China over the Winter term in 2019. These are photos of the most memorable places across Beijing and Xian, with the Terracotta Army and walking along the Great Wall being the most breathtaking! Other highlights of the trip were the food, the architecture and trying our luck with haggling at the markets! #china #beijing #uncc300 #greatwallofchina #terracottaarmy #terracottasoldiers

13.01.2022 Meet Amelia. #throwbackthursday Hi! Im Amelia and I went to Vanuatu for my Semeter 1, 2019 placement. I loved participating in the home stay as it showed us the culture of Vanuatu which we never would have experienced otherwise! #vanuatu #placement #homestay #tbt

12.01.2022 Although studying at Seattle University on her semester exchange, Stef didn't miss the chance to go to Alaska and do one of the things on her bucket list. #studyabroad #exchangeprogram #acustudyabroad http://blogs.acu.edu.au//one-thing-i-have-done-while-on-e/

12.01.2022 Meet Lisa. #throwbackthursday. She is a Bachelor of Nursing student who went on the Faculty of Health Sciences study tour NRSG354 to Vanuatu in July, 2019. This is where I would rather be right now!! Opportunity of a lifetime! Take me back! #vanuatu #studyabroad #tbt

12.01.2022 Meet Shanelle #ThrowbackThursday. My name is Shanelle, I am in my final semester in my Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) and have been lucky enough to complete my degree at the Brisbane campus, and now the Melbourne campus. At the end of 2019 for EDFX267 - Community Engagement, I embarked on a journey to Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr Jann Carroll and Shukri Sanber were our leaders, on this amazing and honestly life changing trip. I feel so lucky and pri...vileged to have been able to experience so many amazing adventures with the best people who come from most of our campuses, 5 of us from Melbourne, 2 from Canberra, 1 from Strathfield and 1 from Brisbane. On this trip, we were a part of a program called Three2Six which is a bridging program that helps refugee children become school ready, and relies on donations to fund it, and support families in getting these kids into schools. The host school, Sacred Heart, is where most of the teaching took place. We were also lucky enough to explore sights throughout Joburg, and go on safari in Pilanesberg. We learnt about a lot of the dark history in South Africa; about the apartheid and Nelson Mandela. We laughed, we cried, we made friendships that will last a lifetime. I also learnt a lot about myself too, being so far away from what is comfortable and familiar, I learnt to rely on these beautiful people who became my family. We helped each other become better teachers as we had classrooms filled with very vulnerable children. I am forever grateful for this trip, and ACU for this opportunity. #southafrica #joburg #three2six #tbt

12.01.2022 COVID has made going overseas a challenge, but virtual study opportunities offer students a way to still get some international engagement. Many folks are offering brilliant virtual experiences, from short-term to semester long activities - even internships. Why not undertake a virtual experience in an international setting while you wait for the borders to reopen? Our friends at CISaustralia explain the benefits of virtual, or remote, experiences and why should consider do...ing one. Contact us at [email protected] if you are interested in doing a virtual global program with ACU. https://www.youtube.com/watch

12.01.2022 Meet Eleanor #throwbackthursday My name is Eleanor, I am a 3rd year nursing student and in September 2019, I went on a trip to the University of North Carolina, U.S.A, to fulfil my clinical hours. My favourite day out my entire three-week trip!!! Posing with Rameses, the mascot for the North Carolina Tar Heels. This was the Universitys big game weekend and the streets were full of students and even entire families decked out in the UNC colours. ... In the evening we were lucky enough to snag front-row seats at the last minute, we were able to watch the marching bands play and the cheerleaders support their team. Fried chicken and waffles, an uncommon pairing in Australia but a Southern American staple. This photo was taken at the Carolina Coffee Shop, the oldest coffee shop in North Carolina. The food was absolutely delicious juicy fried chicken on thick waffles with a bourbon maple syrup. #usa #NorthCarolina ##unc ##rameses ##chickenandwaffles #tbt

11.01.2022 Meet Mietta, she went on the UNCC300 trip to Rome in 2019 and here are some of her favourite photos. One of the most exciting and memorable moments of the trip, was waking up super early for the papal blessing. We got a good seat to watch the sunrise over the Vatican, which was absolutely spectacular, and then we listened to the Pope speak and waved to him as he came around to bless people. We couldnt believe that we had just met the Pope himself!! Arriving at the ACU Rome c...ampus in the town of Trastevere, just outside of Rome. It was such a lovely campus, the buildings, the chapel and the surrounding parks were so beautiful and the campus staff and other students were so friendly and approachable. On one of the weekends we had free, we went on a tour of Pompeii and Naples. It was one of the best moments of the trip!! Pompeii was so interesting, and Naples was absolutely gorgeous!!! #italy #rome #uncc300

11.01.2022 Meet Ally #throwbackthursday. Ally went on semester exchange to Lille Catholic University in France for Semester 2, 2019. While she was there she was able to travel around Europe. Hi, I’m Ally, here are a few pictures from my time in Innsbruck, Austria. Austria is a country that I surprisingly travelled to a lot at various times throughout my study abroad experience and I would highly recommend. Here, I was at the top of the Nordkette mountains with a friend who was also studying abroad. It was absolutely amazing to see Innsbruck from so high above on a beautifully clear and sunny day. An experience I will never forget!! #Austria #Innsbruck #Nordkette #exchangestudent #tbt

10.01.2022 Meet Lauren, she is a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) student, who participated in a short term program in South Africa in 2019. We came to help with education, but we definitely got schooled at the disco! #bustamove #three2six #joburg #southafrica #acu #communityengagement #tbt

10.01.2022 As you all know, Australians are not able to go overseas as there is currently a travel ban in place. We at ACU International are here to help students overcome the significant challenges that we are currently facing, and we will be ready when conditions eventually normalise. Today would have been the start of the UNCC300 Winter programs in Leeds, Lyon, New York and Rome. We will be looking back at previous student experiences, showcasing their stories and showing current stu...dents what journeys they can go on when our borders open up again. Meet Steph. Im an education student in my fourth year. Last year in 2019, I was lucky enough to go to Rome for UNCC300 for 2 weeks. I had never been overseas before and had the time of my life! My favourite memories from this trip are getting to explore the beautiful city of Trastevere - where we stayed and around Rome with friends I made for life. The group I was in were from all different courses and I wouldnt have met any other way. #Rome #Colloseum #TreviFoundatin #Vatican #Sorrento #UNCC300 #timeofmylife

10.01.2022 National Day (Vietnamese: Ngày Quc Khánh) is a national holiday in Vietnam observed on 2 September, commemorating President H Chí Minh reading the Declarations of independence of Vietnam from France on 2 September 1945. To celebrate Vietnam's national day, here is a video from one of our ACU students Georgia, who particpated in the Faculty of Health Sciences SPHY207/OTHY201 study tour last year.

08.01.2022 Meet Lance #throwbackthursday. Lance is a Master of Philosophy student who in December 2019, participated in the Faculty of Health Sciences THBS600/THBS305 units to Israel. In this study tour we understood how Mark portrayed Jesus life story as a failure not a triumph. At that point in history it was a reasonable assessment. However, ~2,000 years on, a group of Australians, from diverse backgrounds, chose to travel to Israel and walk in the steps of Jesus. It is fair to say that these people, are the beautiful people they are, because they have been formed by his teachings. It was even more special, when it is considered, we were supported by a Jewish tour guide, a Muslim bus driver and a Christian facilitator.

06.01.2022 Meet Jennifer #throwbackthursday. My name is Jennifer and last July 2019, I completed my UNCC300 unit in Beijing, China. During my trip I was able to visit the main cities consisting of Beijing, Shanghai & XiAn. On the trip, we visited many tourist attractions such as The Great Wall, The Palace Museum, Ancient City Wall in XiAn, Disneyland in Shanghai, made and ate dumplings, explored night markets and so much more! It was an amazing experience and one I will treasure. China is a great country that is fast-paced and ever changing. I hope to have another opportunity to travel to China again and explore the other cities I wasnt able to experience. #china #uncc300 #greatwallofchina #tbt

06.01.2022 Meet Madi #throwbackthursday. Hi, I'm Madi and I'm a fourth year Applied Public Health & Global Studies student. Last year I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel to Thailand to complete my Global Studies internship in a small town called Mae Sariang. Over the 10 weeks I was there I worked closely with indigenous hill tribes to research the health needs of the community whilst also creating a program proposal for a coffee-based social enterprise. Although it wasn't always smooth sailing it was such an amazing experience and I can't wait to return someday! #thailand #internship #tbt

04.01.2022 Meet Danii. My name is Danii and I am in my third year of a Bachelor of Nursing degree at ACU in Melbourne. Last year I completed the #UNCC300 International Core Curriculum in #NewYork during the winter break. This experience was an amazing opportunity to meet new people, see different parts of the world and learn in a different style compared to the ordinary classroom. A group of ACU students and I from various campuses chose to travel to the other side of the world and indu...lge in a new learning style at #stjohnsuniversity. We were also lucky enough to have some spare time to travel the city of New York, visiting a variety of sights such as the #empirestatebuilding, the #BrooklynBridge, #centralpark, #statueofliberty, #911memorial and many more. We were lucky enough to support local communities by volunteering at a service which packed and delivered food for those less fortunate in the area and felt like we contributed to helping those less fortunate. I would highly recommend travelling overseas and making the most of the opportunities provided by ACU and it has definitely been a highlight of my time studying at ACU.
