23.01.2022 A thing or two about the importance of food in Chinese medicine in general and TCM Gynecology in particular. One of Zhu Dan-xi's "Depressions" was Food Depression (for that we now may read "stagnation") When we utilize Chinese herbal medicine to correct a pattern, that treatment is only successful if the patient corrects other behaviors which led to the pattern arising to begin with. Dietary indiscretion, overeating and inactivity all contribute to the derangement of qi. So... often patients will feel wonderful on the herbal formulas but refuse to modify their diet and lifestyle and thus make no lasting progress. As physicians, we must guard against taking the blame for "failed" treatments by being very clear and unequivocal with our patients from the outset of care. They need to know that the changes THEY make are what will ultimately be responsible for perpetuating the changes you make as their Dr of TCM.
