20.01.2022 We are aware of the increases in mental health presentations throughout the country, in the light of social isolation and unemployment due to COVID-19. It is interesting to reflect on the particular challenges that women face during this time. Professor Kulkarni is a psychiatrist and expert on the mental health of women. She shares her thoughts here. https://www.theage.com.au//absolutely-flooded-record-numbe

15.01.2022 Are Australian people resilient? Judging by what we have had to deal with in the last year, and how we are coming through the other side, yes, absolutely we are resilient. We firmly believe that resilience can be taught and resilience can also be built. #resilience #bushfiresaustralia #bushfires #covidrecovery #australiansmallbusiness #mentalhealthrecovery https://www.abc.net.au//resillient-australian-com/12761196

12.01.2022 A thought-provoking article on the impact of the pandemic on our collective psyche. https://elemental.medium.com/your-surge-capacity-is-deplete

12.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day. In appreciation of this, here is our blog post on why we love being psychiatrists. https://www.acumenpsychiatry.com.au//what-i-say-when-peop/

10.01.2022 It's NAIDOC week this week. Rather than it being just 'tokenistic', at Acumen Psychiatry we are actively thinking of ways to enhance our knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal culture as well as to educate those around us. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land. https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/2020-poster

10.01.2022 Melbourne is waiting, with baited breath, to learn of changes to restrictions tomorrow. Melbournians have worked so hard to achieve the suppression of the virus. At Acumen Psychiatry, we have seen many patients who have been impacted by the psychological impacts of the lockdown, yet have diligently and conscientiously adhered to the restrictions. Let’s hope that we have excellent systems in place to ensure that we don’t need to go down this path again. https://www.theage.com.au//victoria-records-one-new-case-o

06.01.2022 Thank you for Liking us :) We have just passed 200 Likes. We have been in business now for a couple of months and have loved every second of it. We have enjoyed building relations with GPs, practice managers and other colleagues like psychologists. We have met with so many fabulous people and made connections we never would have. And best of all, we have loved seeing our patients - being able to help people in some of their darkest moments remains our passion. There is not a day that we haven’t shared a laugh with a patient or tried to instil some hope. Thank you again for your support. #mentalhealthrecovery #hope #mentalillness #mentalhealth #telepsychiatry

05.01.2022 Human touch. You take it for granted until you can’t have it. Lockdown has made us crave it and one of the best parts of restrictions easing is being able to catch up and give someone a hug. A wonderful and simple remedy for anxiety and stress :) #humanconnection #humantouch #connection #communitymatters #friendshipgoals

02.01.2022 The same old saying still applies. The best things in life are free. Sometimes the best thing we can do for our mental health is to simplify things, connect with animals and loved ones, and enjoy what is freely available in our own living rooms :)
