24.01.2022 Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. It's an opportunity to reflect on the on-going tragedy of overdose deaths, to raise awareness of the challenges around substance use and dependency, to remember those lost, and to challenge stigmatising and societal misconceptions around these preventable deaths. #endoverdose #overdoseawareness #overdoseaware #overdoseprevention #substanceusedisorder #endstigma #mentalhealthawareness https://www.adaaus.com.au//international-overdose-awarenes

22.01.2022 Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. People may have different opinions on this topic, but one thing is important to remember... In Victoria alone, more than 52% of all overdose deaths from 2009 - 2015 involved the use of legal drugs only - alcohol and/or pharmaceuticals. ... Overdose does not discriminate. This can happen to anyone. Loved one, family member, friend, work mate. Let's work toward a solution together. In memory of those we have lost along the way.

22.01.2022 Today marks the annual observance of R U OK? Day. First celebrated back in 2009, it has since become one of Australia’s largest ‘awareness raising’ efforts to combat suicide and mental illness. This year’s message is, Are they really OK? Ask them today. With all that is going on as a result of the pandemic and its effect on mental health, this message is perhaps more important than ever. And if you do know someone who may be struggling, it’s amazing the difference that a qu...iet word, RUOK?, and a bit of care and support can make. Of course, it’s important that we don’t wait until it’s too late. If aware of struggle or distress be alert to the clues, in behaviours or in what they say take a moment to check in on them and start a conversation for change. Getting a conversation going, even if you stumble a bit, is the important thing here. It will give you an opportunity to listen, to offer help and support, and to encourage them to get the treatment they need. This conversation isn’t always easy, but for the person carrying these feelings, a few kind words asking after them can be a powerful positive influence on what they do next. Your actions can be lifesaving. If you would like to find out more on how you can get involved in the 2021 R U OK? Day campaign, visit the following link: https://www.ruok.org.au/ If this information raised any concerns for you, please do speak to your GP, they can help you back to good health, or call a helpline: LIFELINE 13 11 14 or BeyondBlue 1300 22 4636. #ruokday #ruokday2021 #aretheyreallyok #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #suicideprevention #depression #anxiety

22.01.2022 Last week, we were privileged to attend the Maritime Union of Australia's Quadrennial National Conference - working together to promote safer workplaces by shifting attitudes and creating conversations around drug, alcohol and mental health issues that we are facing in our society. Whether we are working alongside someone battling with these issues, whether we have a loved one who we witness to be slowly isolating or whether we, ourselves, are struggling with this hidden condition - we are honoured to be able to be of support to the workers at the MUA. - Maritime Union of Australia - Victoria Branch

Today is RUOK? Day. We need to check in with each other now more than ever. ... Today, or any other day, a phone call could save someones life. 21.01.2022 "Experts fear people's drinking habits formed in isolation will outlast the temporary lockdown."

20.01.2022 We recently attended the launch of the Cox Automotive and Manheim Auctions Australia Mental Health Hub. As we come out of the COVID-19 lockdown and enter into the holiday season, the wellbeing of Australians - around mental health and alcohol and other drug use - is of the utmost concern. We are proud to be working with these organisations to ensure that employees have access to the information and support necessary to get through these challenging times. ... We hope you all stay safe, and be well.

15.01.2022 The AFL Grand Final is a day that every footy fan has earmarked in the calendar. Unfortunately, the pandemic has ensured that we haven’t been able to celebrate in the time-honoured fashion of a gathering of friends, a barbeque, or if you’re lucky enough, with 100,000 of your best friends at the MCG. But one thing hasn’t changed: the importance of safe drinking and being careful of the quantities you consume. For many, the excitement of the day, and the traditions around ‘a ...good time’ makes it a little too easy to over-indulge in food and alcohol (and other substances). Try the following tips to keep safe: Make sure you eat before drinking (best to only drink with a meal). If you’re thirsty, before ‘cracking a beer’ drink water or something non-alcoholic first. Keep track of how much you’re drinking. Alternate your drinks between full-strength and low-alcohol alternatives. Keep control, be assertive don’t be pressured into drinking more than you want to. (See ADA’s A HANDBOOK of Alcohol, Drugs and Workplace Risk pp. 20) Additionally, for those who are at home watching the game with their children, remember the importance of positive role modelling around alcohol. Our children learn their behaviours and attitudes from the adults in their lives - we need to give them the right messages about alcohol, being safe and ‘having a good time’. The modelling you do is very important they will be forming their attitudes around drugs and alcohol from the example you set. If this information raised any concerns for you, please do speak to your GP, they can help you back to good health, or call a helpline: LIFELINE 13 11 14 or BeyondBlue 1300 22 4636. #health #aflgrandfinal #alcoholawareness #family #awarenessmatters #rolemodel #wellbeing

06.01.2022 Most of us now recognise the health and social benefits of cutting back on alcohol consumption, but we perhaps don’t realise that alcohol (and nicotine), both legal drugs, kill more Australians than any other drug.
