10.01.2022 Today is the Late Jon Leighton's Birthday - he would have been 86 y.o. but unfortunately passed away some months ago. For those who don't know Jon's contributio...n to Motor Sport in Australia I can give you a Brief summary - His Farther Bought the land at Sandown to Build a Horse Race Track, Jon who was a Member of the BRDC and a not to bad sort of Driver convinced his Father to Build a Car Racing Circuit on the outside of the Horse Track and that gave a Duel purpose for the property and the birth of Sandown Park Motor Sport Pty Ltd @ 204 Toorak Road South Yarra. Jon was Mentor for Many Great Drivers Incl Frank Gardner, Alfie Constanzo, and probably Hundreds more with BIRCHWOOD SCHOOL OF MOTOR RACING he co drove with Moff in the 6 Hour and was a Regular Team Driver for Datsun, He Raced Lotus 18's Coopers and even Minis and I would like to see him acknowledged in the History of Australian Motor Sport.RIP - JL.
