23.01.2022 [Defending the Money Toilet Marketing Strategy] There is a very common marketing practice I see consultants and coaches participating in. I call it Flushing Money Down the Marketing Toilet... This can be demonstrated in a number of ways but the most common is to spend money on advice or advertising that doesn’t give you an ROI. Where it becomes even more interesting, is that money flushers will often defend the practice in the hope that throwing good money after bad will rectify the issue. So here’s the rub Throwing good money after bad usually doesn’t work and by usually, I mean 99% of the time. Now, I’m not suggesting that your marketing efforts can’t be turned around. What I am suggesting is that throwing money after a failing campaign isn’t the solution. If you catch yourself throwing money down the marketing toilet, here’s the question to ask yourself. Is my offer sexy enough? And by sexy I mean I want to tear clothes off that offer type sexy. In other words Is what I am presenting to the market wanted and communicated in a way that is appealing to my audience? If your offer isn’t tear that clothes off type sexy, you will struggle to get a return Especially when it comes to marketing coaching and consulting. Without a sexy offer, you’ll find yourself with a scarcity of qualified prospects and this often leads over promising or establishing co-dependent relationships with your clients. Creating a sexy office is just one of the three keys to creating predictable returns on your marketing efforts. Resistance to judgement. Resistance to being That Guy always promoting his shit. The biggest sign of marketing resistance is the narrative that comes with it. And resistance is getting in the way of the most crucial and profitable activity an independent consultant can do. The solution isn’t simply to HTFU and get on it The solution is to lubricate Once you realise the truth That the story is BS That it’s costing you your businesses potential You can then start to lean against it. 20.01.2022 [The Tyranny Of The Rubber Chicken Dinner Networking Event] So you’ve got a consulting biz, and you want to grow it Why don’t I try the local chamber networking event? You ask yourself... Answer... Because they suck That’s why. You get up early Eat a buffet breakfast that would be tastier if it was made from rubber chicken You’re surrounded by a bunch of dog trainers, 4 mortgage brokers and the local florist. The folks attending are there for the same reason you are. To sell their stuff They’re not prospects... They’re not qualified And they’re not listening to you when you’re talking They’re waiting for you to take a breath, before launching into their pre-planned elevator pitch. They are trying to sell you dog training And you don’t even own a dog Networking events are the illusion of business development. So If you’re a serious consultant And you actually, seriously, legitimately want to grow your business then you need to give up the Rubber Chicken Networking scene. The following activity is the most crucial, most productive, most essential activity you need to be focusing on in order to grow your biz. It’s the one thing for you to do Build a marketing engine A marketing engine is marketing system that replaces you in the attraction and qualifying process of your prospects. This is usually a few web pages, nicely structured to attract a prospect, and excite them enough to get on the phone with you. You know you’ve got a good one when your diary is filling up with people you haven’t met who want to buy from you. 07.01.2022 [Does Your Consultant Business Have Crabs...?] Are you really good at what you do? I mean, "My Clients Love Me" good.... Folks that work with you get great results, and they are kicking goals... But... Your biz is still struggling to get out of second gear...? A lot of great consultants are so busy making other people successful that they don't have time or forget to make their own business successful. If you can relate to this, then chances are your business has crabs. For a crab to grow it has to completely shed its shell. If it doesn't, it dies. The same goes with consulting businesses. But instead of shedding your shell to grow, you need to upgrade your business growth model. By growth model, I mean the way you attract and work with new clients. Chances are, the strategy you used to grow your business to this point will need to be upgraded for you to grow any further. So, If your business doubled today what would break first? My guess is it would be you. Can you even control whether your business doubles or not? If you can't control the quantity and quality of prospects coming into your business, then your biz probably has crabs... So you have two options. 1. Stay in your shell... 80% of people will do this.
