24.01.2022 I’m so excited to have a showroom and Studio in @regentarcade Regent Arcade’s history dates back to 1928, when it opened as the Regent Theatre, it was often described as the most beautiful and luxurious theatres of its time. It certainly has a special place in my heart as I remember coming to the movies here as a teenager. ... It was built in 1927-1928 designed by architects Cedric, Ballantyne and associates of Melbourne and Soward and Jackson of Adelaide. Come by and admire this beautiful building and the amazing stores within. Thanks to @thepenelopejay for the photo
24.01.2022 Reminiscing to a time before Covid. Addison Ash out and about in beautiful parts of the world, with some gorgeous ladies. Danielle Rabah, Isabel Mawby and Lyn Thomas
24.01.2022 Guess what my first paid job was? No idea? Selling Sunday Mail newspapers at Globe Derby Trotting Races. Yep, I was that girl (tomboy) yelling Sunday Mail trot field inside. The tips and human interaction were the best parts of this job.... I remember it clearly, but it’s hard for me to imagine the shy, pimple faced teenager I was being so loud! I met a friend today for coffee and he commented on my colourful pants....yep, I was wearing the Edge pant. The perfect way to get attention, and keep warm on a cold Winters day. I think about how I’ve changed and I realise I’m still loud in a way.......I use my clothing as my voice. Who else can relate to this? Do you wear clothing which says something about you? How did you evolve over time? I’d love to hear about it. Leave a comment or story below.

22.01.2022 Handmade and textural. This is North American Lattice smocking. This type of smocking is hand stitched and quite time consuming. ... It involves marking a grid on the underside of the fabric and then bringing certain points together to form the pattern. It can be quite therapeutic. One of the earliest examples of this type of smocking technique dates back to the eighteenth century on a French dress which is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was popular in the 1930’s and 40’s and in the 70’s. The most popular application of this smocking was on square, bolster and round velvet cushions. There are many different patterns you can make with this type of smocking. This is a lattice pattern. Hand stitched on our Ainsley tee. Available now online.
22.01.2022 In the early days I remember working in my home studio, I was spending a lot of time working by myself. I would be distracted by the fridge, the dog, the washing.....anything. Then it struck me, . I was previously surrounded by a team of people, health professionals working together for a common cause, caring for people, enhancing health. Working as a Nurse/Midwife I really missed this, more than I thought I would.... . I remembered a time when I was creatively stuck. I had beautiful fabric and I was unsure of how to change the pattern to make it fit properly, to make the design mine - an original. I went to TAFE to learn these things and I learned a lot more. It was then I decided to start Freestyle Sewing and Pattern Making Tuition Maybe a little selfish as I definitely need people around me and to keep me inspired, but it struck me that I could help people who were in the exact position that I was in at that point, and they wouldn’t need to do a long course to learn exactly what they wanted to know. A perfect solution for me as I’d been helping people all my life and it’s so much a part of who I am. Great for my students too, judging on the nice reviews they leave. Thanks guys! See more

13.01.2022 There was a time a few years back when I was dying my hair every 6 weeks! It was the most annoying thing ever!! It was fabulous after it was just done, but after 2 weeks the greys were extremely evident in the roots again.... I spent time every single day covering up these roots, with hair mascara, coloured root spray, etc. etc!! I had toyed with the idea of just letting my natural hair colour grow out, but surely I was too young to have grey hair?? One day I decided take the plunge, no more hair colouring. I would use all those products to cover up the greys as long as I could and then just wing it after that! Cross my fingers and hope for the best! It took about a year to fully grow out but now that it has I feel so much better. It’s been totally liberating! I feel more natural, and I no longer feel I’m hiding myself away from the world. An added bonus is most people actually like it. So if you’ve been sitting on or procrastinating about doing something, I would say, just go for it.....take the plunge, do it NOW!
11.01.2022 Tools of the trade. Cardboard blocks are used as a foundation for any design, there are other ways designs can be created also.....from scratch using measurements and formulas. The hole punch looks a bit like a rabbit and is affectionately known as rabbit ears in the rag trade. Mine gets used as a paperweight. ... The other paperweight in this photo was given to me by one of my brothers when I was a kid! I’m amazed to still have it after all these years. That’s your Friday trivia fix. Enjoy your weekend

06.01.2022 Just wanted to share this special moment with you all.... It was Fashion Parade day. The day we get to show the world the collection we created in the final year of our course. Everything was a buzz of organisation, models, hair, make-up, our garments, the dressing room.... I was a bundle of nerves! My final collection, my designs, on the runway with real models for everyone in the audience to see. It was hard for me to watch, although I wanted to see, I was embarrassed that people may not like my designs. Then came the scariest moment! After the parade had finished my class and I got to walk the catwalk with a model dressed in one of our designs. I took a deep breath, the model was so kind, she knew I was nervous, she smiled and took my hand, she’d done this before. I was careful not to trip over, I had heels on, something I don’t wear often. The audience clapped and I felt my heart fill up with gratitude, and I was proud of what I had achieved. An Advanced Diploma of Fashion Design.
05.01.2022 Absolute beginner class. These lovely ladies came and made a pattern for a cushion cover, made the cushion cover and learnt how to use a sewing machine and an overlocker all in one session, last Saturday morning. Their cushion covers look amazing!... They had so much fun they all booked to come back and make a skirt block, skirt pattern, and skirt in the next few weeks. What’s a skirt block? It’s a basic generic skirt pattern that can be altered in a number of ways to create different skirt designs. The girls are making one to fit themselves. I can’t wait to help them out with this and to see them progress with their sewing and pattern making goals.
