25.01.2022 Reviewing the structure of your investment portfolio is an important and ongoing task that should ideally be undertaken at least once a year. Doing so ensures your portfolio asset allocations remain aligned with your tolerance for risk and your broader long-term investment goals. After such a tumultuous year on global financial markets in 2020, the value weightings of your current holdings may be out of kilter with your target asset mix and it may be prudent to recalibrate yo...ur portfolio. But before making any rash investment decisions, your asset allocation strategy should consider the global economic landscape and the medium to long-term outlook for financial markets. 20.01.2022 Employers: From 1 November, you may have an extra step before you can pay super contributions on behalf of new employees. Check if you need to request stapled s...uper fund details from us if someone you hire doesn’t choose their own super fund. Haven’t heard of a stapled super fund before? It’s an existing super account which is linked, or 'stapled', to an individual employee so that it follows them as they change jobs. To learn more, visit www.ato.gov.au/stapledsuperfund

13.01.2022 Since the pandemic’s arrival, many Australian states have faced the ongoing challenge of shifting lockdowns. And as a result, several new support packages have been announced to help the millions of small business owners impacted by stay-at-home restrictions. For advisors, this comes with the challenge of navigating each grant’s eligibility requirements to work out if their clients qualify sometimes, across multiple regions. Although the application criteria for each suppo...rt measure differs state-by-state, most business owners must be able to demonstrate a decline in turnover in order to be eligible for financial assistance. Depending on the grant, a minimum threshold applies. So to help make this calculation easier, Xero has updated its COVID-19 Business Support tool with customisable comparative date ranges. This means small businesses and their advisors can now use the tool to determine eligibility for all kinds of grants across Australia. Read more here: https://hubs.li/H0VH2-R0

04.01.2022 How do you grow a sector 66 per cent? The agricultural sector is worth an estimated $60 billion to the Australian economy. Both the National Farmers’ Federation and the Federal Government would like to see that amount grow to $100 billion by 2030. But getting Australian agriculture to such a figure won’t happen by accident or by small, incremental changes. It requires all players involved to think big, particularly when it comes to agricultural technology. Certainly that’s ...something Andrew Coppin, chair of the Australian Agritech Association, would welcome. Last year, he expressed concern that Australia was being left behind in the global race to develop and adopt agri-technologies that save time and money, reduce waste, improve productivity and yield, and boost profitability. His concern is backed up by the numbers: a 2018 report from the United States Studies Centre noted that the US’s per capita investment in agtech was 50 times greater than Australia’s. 03.01.2022 The delivery of medical care has experienced a major shift during the pandemic, with a peak of more than 50 per cent of patients consulting a doctor via telehealth, the 2021 CommBank GP Insights Report has found. 53 per cent of GPs said they had invested more in technology than they initially budgeted in order to meet the rising demand for digital interactions. This was primarily used to improve efficiencies and enhance communications between GPs and patients, such as digital... appointment reminders and check-in services. The widespread adoption of telehealth has been a monumental task for GPs to manage. Just four per cent of consultations were conducted via telehealth pre-pandemic, rising to 51 per cent in 2020, and settling back at 23 per cent just prior to the latest lockdowns. 02.01.2022 From little things big things grow there’s a lesson for businesses in Paul Kelly and Kev Carmody’s iconic Aussie song. Though in management speak, the little things would be ‘business process improvements’ or BPIs. Business process improvements, or BPIs, are the little things organisations can do to improve existing processes and practices minimising errors, reducing waste, improving productivity and streamlining efficiency. While seemingly small, these continuous incremen...tal tweaks can often make the biggest difference to a bottom line, something that’s particularly important just now. Take Taco Bell, which went from negative growth to doubling its growth to US$2.5 billion in less than 10 years, through a focus on process improvements. Whether it’s monitoring processes, transactions, systems or patterns, a focus on small and cumulative repetitions can deliver huge results for businesses of any size. 02.01.2022 Generally speaking, regional areas in Australia have been more resilient to pandemic impacts than capital cities. Capital cities are not only more prone to COVID-19 outbreaks than regional areas due to incoming international cases and higher population densities but the industry structures of capital cities are also more skewed towards COVID-impacted economic activity. Across Australia, employment recovered to pre-pandemic levels more quickly in regional areas.... The bulk of economic loss from the pause in business travel, international tourism and education, international immigration and large events has been incurred by capital city businesses.
