23.01.2022 #Repost @anna_k_mackay with @get_repost Thank you @anna_k_mackay for this wisdom . .... Note: This post is not to shame or guilt anyone who has dieted or idealized thinness; I 100% understand why we fall prey to dieting and the seduction of weight loss .. Im trying to create awareness on how dieting and anti-fat attitudes have a serious, long-lasting detrimental impact, not only on us, but our children. Public health efforts to prevent childhood obesity often miss the mark i.e., encouraging parents to control their childs weight using measures that essentially teach the child disordered eating behaviors (ahem Kurbo) when we try to control weight it has the opposite effect of what we intend by promoting weight cycling, restriction, binge eating, compulsive exercise habits, and a reliance on numbers (as opposed to being attuned to your body) .. Keep the focus on healthy behaviors, keep weight / body size out of it .. #weightinclusive #weightneutral #haes #healthateverysize #nondietapproach #antidiet #publichealth #teens #kids #adolescents #edawareness #edrecovery #nokurbo See more

22.01.2022 It's the same battle. Eating Disorders are mental health conditions. It's not different or "opposite". At some point we learnt to manage our painful feelings using food, the way some others use alcohol or drugs. Binge or Restrict we can "just stop" #trauma #mentalillness #eatingdisoders #Battle

22.01.2022 (Trigger Warning: Suicide & Eating Disorders) Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.This is an incredibly important day as suicide is the leading cause of death... for Australians aged between 15-44 and the suicide rate in Australia is up to 31 times higher for people with eating disorders. Let us use today as a reminder that we must come together and collectively shine a light on suicide prevention, raise awareness and encourage conversations. Sometimes we may hold back from checking in on others because were worried that we might make the situation worse but the truth is at times we all need to be reminded that were not alone, to have somebody ask us are you okay? Its important to check on the people who seem to have it all together, the ones who are always busy, the ones who are extra sad and the ones who are really happy. We never really know what is going on with someone, even those close to us. Which is why having meaningful conversations about lifes ups and downs is so important. Asking someone if they're experiencing suicidal thoughts can be a really tricky conversation to navigate but #YouCanTalk. You don't need to be a professional, simply letting them know you care can make a huge difference. Join in the conversation today and everyday #WSPD2019. 22.01.2022 If you hold your breath for a long time and finally take your first panicked inhale, no one calls it loss of control breathing or binge breathing! Its a na...tural compensatory response to air deprivation. We need that perspective for eating. Its normal to inhale your food if you havent had enough to eat. When you follow restrictive food plans to shrink your body, its common to have episodes of loss of control eating. Thats your body helping to ensure your survival. On a biological level, your cells do not know that self-induced food restriction is intentional. Our bodies require consistent nourishment to laugh, move, love, work, and play. When these energy needs are not met, your body responds appropriately by triggering a primal drive to eat. Your bodys need to eat is like the need to breathe essential for life. Your body is on your team, and you deserve to feed yourself regularly each and every day. There should be no shame in eating! #IntuitiveEating #IntuitiveEatingOfficial #IntuitiveEatingVillage #HAES #antidiet See more

21.01.2022 Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is the most common eating disorder experienced by Victorians and yet is the least known or talked about. Eating disorders can affect... anyone and with BED, the incidence in males and females is almost equal. Binge eating is characterized by frequently eating excessive amounts of food, often when not hungry and accompanied by feelings of loss of control, and in many cases, guilt, embarrassment and disgust. You can find out more about BED and recovery here: https://www.eatingdisorders.org.au/e/binge-eating-disorder/

20.01.2022 #Repost @freedomholisticnutrition with @get_repost This pattern is something I see A LOT! And the reason that its so common is because it is the bodys nat...ural response to restriction and deprivation. . . If youre hungry and ignore that hunger (or try to ignore it...), your body WILL eventually MAKE you eat. This normally hits at night, and is especially the case if youve been eating unsatisfying foods (aka rice crackers and plain old salads) all day. . . This is why Intuitive Eating is so important listen to your body, and honour what it is asking you for. 14.01.2022 REPOST: image & caption by Anna Sweeney MS, RDN, CEDRD-S a.k.a. DietitianAnna https://bit.ly/3t7Ccwl _ _ _ "I’ve said this before and I will say it forever: ...eating with restraint is not better than eating more than planned. Restriction is not superior to binge eating. Dieting is not better than falling off a diet. Typically, the two patterns of interacting with food are connected. This is not personal or moral. This is about survival. Bodies are ever persistent in their desire to withstand whatever they are made to endure. To function on our behalf, without question. I speak with my clients regularly about the physiological and psychological impact of not getting enough food. About the build up of energy & stress & appetite & anxiety in the context of being under fed. The preoccupation with food, the planning that goes into eating, the avoidance of other areas of life. These are normal things that happen when a body is not being adequately nourished. (See: Minnesota Starvation Study) A tricky and important thing is that under-nourishing a body is a set up for eating more. And this is true whether one is actually limiting energy intake or are thinking about food in a binary, good/bad fashion or following food rules. Both mental & physical restriction are an invitation for feeling out of control with eating. Your body wants and needs food for survival. And it will go to great lengths to ensure that it is fed. Check in with yourself: Are you eating regularly throughout the day? Meals and snacks? Consistently? Are your eating experiences leaving you feeling adequately nourished? Energized? Are you actually getting enough food? Are you feeling satisfied when you eat? Are you eating in accordance to food rules? A belief that you should eat one way or another? Are your emotional needs being met? If not, what do you need? The human body is brilliant. You’re not out of control. And if you think you are, check into the questions above. You’re not out of control. You’re surviving. I’m here for that, all day." _ _ _ -Image Description- A screenshot of a tweet by Anna Sweeney MS, RDN, CEDRD-S that reads: Because your body cannot differentiate restriction from famine, please be compassionate when your body calls for more food, consumed without restraint. This is not about loss of control or failure. This is about survival.

10.01.2022 Binge eating disorder (BED) is often misunderstood despite its prevalence. In this week's "What we're reading," we're grateful for this wonderful article from A...my Pershing, LMSW, ACSW. Pershing provides four precepts for helping those who struggle with binge eating disorder and highlights many critical points regarding the "caveperson brain" (as Dr. G refers to how our bodies react to dieting and eating disorders) and the need for Health At Every Size healthcare. 06.01.2022 CW: eating disorders and body shaming . . .... I know this seems like small potatoes, but in this time it would be beneficial to make a mental note of how fat phobic our society is acting, especially now. Fat people portrayed as selfish, gluttonous villains that hoard precious resources. We are viewed as the personification of overconsumption in all forms. Literally every damn one making jokes about how fat they'll get and whoops, there goes my summer body! People talking about being "so bad right now" because they aren't tracking their macros in a time of national crisis. Stop it, for the love of god. Not only do MANY people with eating disorders (who are REALLY struggling right now with varying from their routine) hear you, but you're throwing all fat people under the bus for a communal bonding experience. People are regressing and restricting and hurting themselves out of shame. Our relationships with food and our bodies needs to be healed if this is one of the main things joked about and source of humor at a time like this, especially if larger bodies are at the forefront of this roasting. Your friends listen. Your KIDS who are stuck at home with you listening and are internalizing your body image issues. Stigma worsens. As laughable as it seems to some people and as much as people want to pretend this is a conspiracy theory, there is real proven medical stigma against fat people. And for the fat people aware of this, we are wondering if enough beds aren't available, will we be low on the list of people to save due to our bodies? If it is between me and someone else of a smaller size and other factors are more or less equal, they will not save me. This stigma is internalized and matters. Please don't dismiss this issue. Please don't roll your eyes. I've seen about 200 posts in the last week joking about how gross your bodies will become, because they're going to look more than mine. Posts from so, so many of my friends. I won't applaud you for eating in a way you seem as "healthy" right now because that is an incredibly narrow definition of what health is, and I will not shame you for turning to food for comfort when it is a natural coping mechanism. Know that what we say and how we portray people in larger bodies has power. @i_weigh
