25.01.2022 Don't forget the Superannuation Guarantee Amnesty! With all the changes and bookkeeping updates due to Covid-19 it is easy to forget that the SG amnesty was passed in early March. But the ATO has indicated that this is a once only offer and that there will be no extension, regardless of current events. If you have unpaid super from prior to July 2018 the time to get it sorted is NOW. We can help you reconcile your super and work out what you owe.... Below is the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers' summary. SG (Superannuation Guarantee) Amnesty - 6 Months Only. In 2017 the SG gap was $2.3b or a deficit of 4% of the total expected. Government policy is that SG must be paid. Government are providing an incentive for employers to bring their SG obligations into line. As of 10 March 2020: Royal Assent granted 10 March. It is now law. Amnesty applies until 7 September 2020. 100% penalty thereafter. No discretion. We strongly recommend a full review of any late payments and that a form be lodged for any individual quarter that has a late payment It is first about lodging forms, it is then about paying. Late super payments will be deductible if paid before 7 September. Payment Plans can be for longer periods but any payments after 7 September are not deductible. There is a 6 month window in which to notify the ATO and pay outstanding SG. * The amnesty relates to SG that is outstanding for periods up to the March 2018 quarter. SG Amnesty during the COVID-19 Unlikely the SG Amnesty period will be extended This does not remove the benefits of having any applicable employers catch up their declarations of outstanding SG. If you lodge the SG Amnesty forms and enter a payment plan then No penalties and No admin fee ($20 per employee per quarter). If you don’t and get caught later then SG to be paid, at least 100% of the SG as a penalty and the admin fee. Payment plans may be able to be entered with a delayed start date ie after the COVID-19 period. The impact of COVID-19 and the amnesty is that many businesses will not be able to pay the SG without a deferred payment plan and therefore will lose tax deductibility.

25.01.2022 Energy Cost Assistance to Business Information courtesy of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers. Energy retailers will provide assistance to business... The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) has set reasonable expectations of energy companies to protect small business customers during the COVID-19 pandemic. This extends important protections for energy customers and encourages retailers and customers to stay in contact and to reach out if they need help. These Protections for small business during COVID-19 have been extended to 31st October 2020. Expectations for Energy Providers (extracted and adapted from The Australian Energy Regulator AER) All residential and small business customers who indicate they may be in financial stress, a payment plan or hardship arrangement will be offered. Advice is to stay on the plan as protection from disconnection, interest payments and late fees. Before 31st October 2020 (and potentially beyond), no disconnections other than at request, any residential or small business customer who may be in financial stress. This is extended to any large business customer who may be in financial stress who is on-selling energy to residential and small business customers. Defer referrals of a retailer’s customers to debt collection agencies for recovery actions, or credit default listing until at least 31st October 2020. Payment plans and flexibility to pay smaller amounts or over a longer period are being offered. Waive disconnection, reconnection and/or contract break fees for small businesses that have ceased operation, along with daily supply charges to retailers, during any period of disconnection until at least 31st October 2020. For more information go to The Australian Energy Regulator (AER)
24.01.2022 JobKeeeper Update: 1. Nothing changes until September. 2. You can be looking at your June quarter now to see if you meet the first eligibility requirement for continuing support after September. This is important for cash flow planning. 3. The rules around using cash/accruals reporting to determine eligibility change after September. 4. You still need to pay staff before receiving funds but there is leeway to allow you to determine eligibility.... If you are unsure ask for help! See more

21.01.2022 A reminder from the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers: please review your wages if you did not already do so for the new financial year. Make it your habit to review wages and relevant legislation every June. Get ready for a 1.75% increase to base pay rates. The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has announced a 1.75% increase to minimum wages following its 2020 Annual Wage Review. The new National Minimum Wage (NMW) will be $753.80 per week or $19.84 per hour. The increase applies ...to base pay rates from the first full pay period starting on or after 1st July 2020. This constitutes an increase of $13.00 per week to the weekly rate or 35 cents per hour to the hourly rate. Note: wages increases are staged so not all industries are affected immediately. Please check the award relating to your staff.

11.01.2022 SNEAK PEEK: Writing this after a delicious fresh meal of crispy skinned barramundi, quinoa seasoned with home made stock, 1/2 avocado (are you picking up on the need for good fats in this meal?) and a fresh raw vegetable salsa with bush lemon, olive oil and SNP dressing. I give this detail because a client recently asked if I don’t cook much because I’d not heard of a celebrity chef. We all do gourmet in our own wonderful way The reason for all this fresh yummy goodness an...d healthy fats? Well it’s how I like to eat but I also needed recovery from what I really love doing. A weekend of hiking where there’s no people, no trails, no guarantee of reaching the destination (yep, unassailable cliff at the end of a long hike with 700m of vertical ascent over the last 3km), no designated campsites but a whole lot of fun, challenge and nature. Who recognises Wollumbin from behind in one if these shots? Sneak peek into the weekend of a mild mannered bookkeeper
11.01.2022 Doing your own bookkeeping be like... (Disclaimer: I have some clients who do a GREAT job of day to day stuff, making my part super easy ).

08.01.2022 This from the Bookkeepers Support Group. As always I will endeavour to answer all your questions as best I can but, if the PAYGW stumbles measures have taught us anything it’s that we don’t know much until the ink dries and even then we don’t know much! I do hope there’s help in there for all that need it
07.01.2022 So this just happened!
07.01.2022 Bookkeepers are super heroes!
06.01.2022 Come over for a cup of tea. This simple phrase has meant so many things in my life. A spontaneous walk in nature. An afternoon playing by the pool that ended in dinner and drinks. An unplanned working bee. A late night deep and meaningful for someone in need (be it me or my fellow beverage consumer). With one special friend it became an oft used euphemism for secret liaisons. Sometimes it simply meant a cup of tea with a friend. But in every case it meant connection. There ...was a generation not so long ago that lived through 2 world wars and the Spanish Flu (which killed more people than both wars put together). They knew about isolation and separation. And they truly understood the importance of a simple cup of tea with friends. In fact, perhaps they realised that when you put hot water, some little leaves, and maybe some milk together in just the right way it became something more. It became a kind of glue. The kind that holds communities together. If Covid-19 gives us nothing else I hope it reminds us of the importance of the humble cup of tea. So I hope you’ll forgive me waxing lyrical when there’s JobKeeper and a PAYGW stimulus and lots of very serious topics to discuss. I’m here for you if you need help with any of those too.
