21.01.2022 In wake of the grain railway transport service ceasing in the Eyre Peninsula, heavy vehicle traffic will increase during harvest season. If you live on the Eyre... Peninsula or are visiting the area, there’s a large chance you’ll encounter heavy vehicles on the road. These trucks can be up to 36-metres long and weigh up to 100 tonnes when loaded. In order to promote road safety in this area, we’re running Operation Eyre Safe, with the twin aims of education and enforcement in relation to drivers interacting with heavy vehicles. All road users play a part in keeping our roads safe; remember to be cautious and patient when sharing the road with heavy vehicles: Only overtake when it’s safe to do so Do not attempt to pass a heavy vehicle that is turning or approaching a roundabout Be aware of trucks blind spots (if you can’t see their mirrors, they can’t see you) Travel behind a heavy vehicle at a safe following distance
