24.01.2022 Three South Australian newcomers discuss the incentives and challenges of SA life as an outsider.

24.01.2022 Good news for South Australia's international economy still booming, and good also for China's consumers to enjoy our state's good produce, despite all the COVID restrictions in many places: 'SA’s exports to China rose another 15 per cent, or $165 million, from January to May, compared to the same time last year. Beef, sheep, fruit and nut exports to China have gone gangbusters, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade figures show. SA’s beef exports doubled to $47 million, an...d fresh, frozen and chilled beef exports have risen 26.9 per cent since last year. Wine sales are also starting to rebound after being hit by COVID-19 lockdowns. Farmers say Chinese consumers are still hungry for premium SA and Australian goods, despite the political war of words between Beijing and Canberra. Business SA chief executive Martin Haese said the export growth showed the underlying strength of the South Australian economy, and that China remained a significant trading partner.'

In one of the biggest announcements yet for the hyped growth of future technologies industries in SA, the US-listed firm will launch a recruitment campaign for workers from today. It expects to ramp up to the 2000 jobs over five years.... It comes amid expansion of the Lot Fourteen development on the old Royal Adelaide Hospital site.'

23.01.2022 Go Adelaide - we are the first and only one in Australia . ... and we could be the first verified "Well City" in the world, thanks to our success in sustainability, handling of COVID and our healthcare system in general, good education, and a healthy environment surrounded by park lands, etc. 'Facing tomorrow’s challenges, cities worldwide benefit from putting wellbeing at the heart of their approach. We see planning and policy more inclined to public health investments, ef...forts to promote diverse and cohesive communities together with sustainable environments, and stronger local economies. The Wellbeing Cities Award recognizes those initiatives by offering a powerful global platform to tell their story and inspire others. In total, twenty cities across the world have been listed as leaders in their categories, with the City of Adelaide being selected as the only Australian finalist for the 2020 Wellbeing Cities Award.'

17.01.2022 Aren't we good in South Australia with implementing a circular economy: Did you know 84% of our rubbish is recycled in the state, and ditto for 40% of our used water? Besides not being dumped in landfill, the recycled material earns us money, exports and 4,800 people are employed in firms such as Peat Soils, BioBag World Australia, etc (in mostly high-end jobs) to manage the recycling. Win win for the economy and environment!

15.01.2022 South Australia is on the cusp of reversing its brain drain, latest figures show, posting some of its best migration and population growth figures on record. The latest Australian Bureau of Statistic figures, for the year to March, before the full effect of COVID-19 hit, show SA had its: BEST quarterly interstate migration since September 2002 (-217), compared to a 10-year average loss of 1120 people;... BIGGEST quarterly growth in population since records were kept in 1981 (7454) compared to a 10-year average of 3626; HIGHEST quarterly overseas migration to SA on record (6255), up from a 10-year average of 3098.

15.01.2022 Great to see the wheels in motion for 300 international students to arrive in #Adelaide spread over flights from November through to January next year. Hopefully paving the way for more to arrive both locally and nationally.

15.01.2022 In a post-pandemic world where big cities have lost their lustre and digital innovation has been turbocharged, #Adelaide has a unique opportunity to capitalise on its strengths and lure more businesses and skilled migrants.

12.01.2022 Today, our brand story is more compelling than ever, said Committee for Adelaide chief executive officer, Jodie van Deventer. That is likely to grow as the n...orthern hemisphere faces a bleak winter of lockdowns while Adelaideans enjoy our parks, beaches, cafes and restaurants in the sunshine. We’re already seeing talented expats returning to our shores and if we take full advantage of this opportunity and continue to stay safe, we can become a magnet for global talent and business.

10.01.2022 When we have been one of the best cities in the world for handling COVID, and things are all opening up again, it's no surprise to see this: South Australian 'businesses were buoyed by strong consumer demand, driven by a focus on buying local and the state’s open borders, which have had the cash registers running hot for some.' https://www.adelaidenow.com.au//ea1ca8a0c833280a00346681c8

07.01.2022 This is what happens when Adelaide becomes listed as Australia's most liveable city: 'People are moving to South Australia in record numbers during the coronavirus pandemic, official figures show. Premier Marshall said the increase in net migration was further evidence that South Australians and those from other parts of the country believed the state was heading in the right direction.... Our exceptional performance in containing COVID, accelerating industrial transformation and strong jobs growth has reversed the brain drain in the midst of extremely difficult times, Mr Marshall said. South Australia is now the place to be to get a job, buy a house and raise a family".' https://www.adelaidenow.com.au//3c7ebb08c67603a5f050dbcab2

07.01.2022 Winter’s about to get a whole lot cooler in Adelaide! The state is launching a new festival in July 2021 that will be unlike anything we’ve had before. 07.01.2022 One of our most famous Aussies missing his favourite city and Adelaide's seething charms. If Barry says so, how can anyone disagree?

05.01.2022 News that South Australia is one of the safest places in the world is spreading around, with CNN now also reporting on our success:

03.01.2022 Good news for strengthening South Australia's international connections, and being first to do so: 'South Australian universities are poised to fly in 300 students from Singapore in a national-first pilot program aimed at reviving SA's $2 billion education economy. In a coup for the state’s tertiary sector, SA has trumped interstate bids to spearhead the return of foreign students stranded when Australia’s borders closed in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.... The flight from Singapore for South-East Asian students is expected to arrive in Adelaide in early September, in a test run for a larger-scale return nationally. It is understood the final-year students will follow a strict hotel quarantine regime, paid for by universities and mirroring that in place for repatriated Australians. Premier Steven Marshall: South Australia’s handling of COVID-19 has put us in the ideal position to be a first-mover in bringing back international students. Plans to bring up to 2,400 international students back to SA were revealed in early July. Trade, Tourism and Investment Minister Simon Birmingham said the pilot was an important first step in rebuilding Australia’s crucial $39 billion education sector.'

03.01.2022 Already over 400,000 Australians have returned home so far this year due to COVID; from a survey of them, 40% have decided to stay, given the top lifestyle, safety and global opportunities here in 21st century industries, with another 27% looking to do so - that's two thirds all up! For those South Aussies who have "boomeranged" home earlier, it's no surprise 'Whether to be with family who need them, to embrace the balanced approach to life that South Australia exemplifies or simply because the requirement to work remotely affords them the opportunity to work from home, South Australia’s management of the pandemic and safety of our cities and towns has shown itself to be a major drawcard for expats.'
