13.01.2022 It is day four of our five artworks in five days. Today we are featuring this piece by Donald (Bluey) Roberts Ramindjeri. - Painted on a BMW K100 motorcycle fuel tank, this work of art by Bluey Roberts was not unusual to his artistic practice. His output featured on various materials including canvas, board, boomerangs, bowls, refrigerators and other found objects. Born in Meningie, South Australia in 1948, Roberts explores the rich visual history of his Ngarrindjeri culture ...through his graphic imagery. In his works, he prominently features flora and fauna demonstrating his gained understanding of biodiversity. On this fuel tank Roberts has painted emus, echidnas, ants, snakes and kangaroos, all of which reflect his experiences growing up and later interactions with the broader environment. Another prominent public artwork by Roberts, River Spirit Dreaming (1989), shares similar symbolism to the artwork we see here. He quotes, The symbol of the snake represents the rivers and creeks in South Australia. These mean life. All of my symbols that I paint are the Dreaming and the river spirits ... the male figures represent my ancestors who hunted and survived for thousands of years. The symbol of the woman represents the food gathering and giving birth to the children the dance group figures represent a celebration or ceremony. The kangaroo and emu mean brother and sister. bit.ly/lot66blueyroberts - Tomorrow we are presenting our most anticipated artwork in this auction, look out for our post on Facebook and Instagram. 10.01.2022 Today's featured artwork is Portrait of Anthony Slavotinek by Peter Serwan. Serwan was born in Mount Gambier in 1962 and studied at the South Australian School of Arts. Serwan's prominence on the Australian art scene is evidenced by his extensive career including 15 solo exhibitions held in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney. His early works concentrated on straight landscapes and streetscapes, but the figure was gradually introduced into his compositions. Serwan quoted, "For ...some time now, my immediate environment has been a catalyst for ideas and I allow meanings to emerge in my work based on personal experiences, recollections and chance observations. I'm interested in the dramas and moments we live out and endeavour to show how they can express wider truths about ourselves." http://bit.ly/lot24peterserwan - Tomorrow we will be featuring a painting on an unconventional canvas, look out for our post on Facebook and Instagram. 04.01.2022 Today is our final day of five artworks in five days. We have saved our most engaging work of art to last, let us present to you this painting by Fred Cress titled The Serpent's Bind. - Fred Cress was born in India in 1938 in the final years of British imperial rule. He later studied in Birmingham and arrived in Australia in 1962. He began as a figurative artist but then transitioned into abstract work in the late 1960s. Cress refined his skill and his best abstract work ca...me during the mid-1970s and continued over the next decade. From the mid-1980s, Cress introduced more recognisable objects and figurative forms. His figurative style's popularity was cemented when he won the Archibald Prize in 1988 with a portrait of artist John Beard. A distinguishing feature of Cress’s practice is that it is not based on observation. Everything comes from his imagination and his life experiences. Cress adopts situations and realities that are familiar to the audience, however, he takes an ethical stance by condemning the greed and stupidity of these situations. Cress is an artist who observes society objectively and comments on the passing parade of humanity through his art. In 2003, Cress was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for services to visual arts. bit.ly/lot101fredcress - Today and tomorrow are the final days to inspect the art in this upcoming auction. You can find all the lots in our online catalogue, or alternatively explore our virtual showroom (all links can be found on our website). This auction is live in-house and online next Monday night at 6pm.
