25.01.2022 "Strong as a Mother" Love it!!!

24.01.2022 Getting back to work! I'm excited to say I'm now back photographing for families in the following capacity: ~ All lifestyle sessions, including family, maternity, just born, and early weeks.... ~ Certain birth sessions, WCH and home births. Here is the latest from SA Health regarding WCH Visitor restrictions: The WCH is currently restricting visitor numbers and kindly ask that you limit visitors to two support people, per patient per day. Each visitor will be asked to undergo a health screening and receive an armband for that day. We understand there will be exceptional circumstances and we encourage families to speak with their medical team for further support. http://www.wch.sa.gov.au/covid-19/COVID-19_clinic.html

24.01.2022 Over the last 8 years, I've worked for some special couples who've had me along for the ride as they went from a couple, to first time parents, and on to build a beautiful family. Sash and George hold an extra joyful place in my heart, along with their precious boys. I think this was our 10th shoot together! (I'm counting the one we did on Channel Nine News too )

23.01.2022 Elective CS - Photography $200 DISCOUNT for bookings made before the 15th February 2020. Certain hospitals and care providers will allow me to capture the birth of your baby/babies in theatre and recovery. Please get in touch if you'd like this service and I will be able to advise if this is possible in your situation.

23.01.2022 This is an empowering recollection of labour and birth. Love this perspective so much. Thanks to the author for sharing her experience with such eloquence.

22.01.2022 How incredible would this be for mother's at the Women's and Children's Hospital. Being able to connect with their babies and staff from their hospital beds... I've had clients in the situation where they've been unable to visit their baby for 24hrs after birth because staff were simply too busy to wheel the mother's down to NICU. I also know how powerful images can be at this time, helping a woman's milk come in at a time when they have limited to no contact with their babies. I'd love to see this initiative explored and adopted here in Adelaide!

21.01.2022 As we all struggle to adapt to our changing circumstances during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are looking for ways to empower and support women virtually through "...The Business of..." platforms. The new hospital restrictions banning partners and doulas during labor broke our hearts. For women birthing in hospitals, the idea of not having any labor support is frightening and unprecedented. Equally unimaginable is the fact that nurses and care givers lack adequate personal protection equipment, putting their own health at risk. In order to support expecting parents during this pandemic, we are streaming "The Business of Being Born" and the "More Business of Being Born" series FOR FREE from our website: www.thebusinessof.life

21.01.2022 Don't hesitate to talk to your care provider to discuss your particular needs during labour... they may not be able to override the current restrictions but they may be able to find other ways to provide support more aligned with you needs. And perhaps complete the feedback survey I posted previously.

20.01.2022 This is fabulous

20.01.2022 This is a fabulous demonstration of breastfeeding!

20.01.2022 Fresh little Squish!! Loving the calm babies born through the water recently

20.01.2022 COVID-19 Hello to all my birthy community friends. Isn't life a bit of a kerfuffle right now! How are you all holding up? Personally, I've moved from the "watching with interest" phase, and onto the "sh*t's getting real, real quick" phase. As such, it's time for me to close up, bunker down, look after my family, friends, and in doing so, the wider community. It could be for a couple of weeks, or months. None of us know... But as soon as I can, I will let you know when I'm ...back to work. It has been heartbreaking to tell my current, immediate clients that I can't support them during their births anymore due to the latest SA Health measures. My heart is heavy though, for all the pregnant, due soon, and fourth trimester women impacted by this time. Our hospitals have implemented severe restrictions on visitors and support people. Pre natal classes are cancelled. And getting support with a newborn is challenging enough without the restrictions we're going to have to navigate. I sincerely hope that throughout this challenging time, we can all find wonderful ways to continue supporting one another in other ways. And, I hope that by the time this cloud lifts, I can jump straight back into the work I love as a birth photographer. In the meantime, please stay in touch. Family sessions will be the first type of shoot I'll be able to do when I start back up. Hopefully I can support all you lovely women who value and NEED their births photographed soon!!! Victoria

17.01.2022 Attention soon-to-be mums When packing your overnight bag for your birth stay it is important not to forget the essentials! Learn more about having your baby at WCH at http://www.wch.sa.gov.au/patients/women/pregnancy/index.html

16.01.2022 Happy New Year !!!! Here's to 2021 being full of wonder, love and adventure.... and a few less covid cases and hospital restrictions! Victoria

13.01.2022 Point of Difference - Establishing Birth Photography in the wider community. Working hard to broaden awareness of empowered birthing and the beauty of this genre of photography, I've been interviewed, filmed, photographed, criticised, judged, and congratulated for my work over the years! You can view the SBS Story here: https://www.sbs.com.au//it-s-a-big-deal-to-give-birth-so-w

13.01.2022 My wonderful friend and workshop collaborator, Cassie Emmett, has just created this beautiful birth video. It celebrates the magic of birth in its many forms and settings. I must mention that the waterbirth scenes are stunning, poetic even!

13.01.2022 Homebirth has certainly been a highly sought after option since COVID began. So thrilled to he a part of this beautiful family's birth team this time around. An absolute honour to witness such empowerment

Sure, there is a bit of madness going on with the smaller muses, but that's all a part of the fun! Gift these photo's for Christmas / Mother's / Father's /Grandparents special Day's. 08.01.2022 When your client sends you a behind the scenes photo... I don't tend to say "yes" the posed newborn shoots often these days as I much prefer the lifestyle versions. But gosh I love the minimalist shots! Thank you Amy xx

08.01.2022 SOMETHING EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW... ... We all know and believe that very human being has the right to bodily autonomy. No one can touch you without your consent. No one gets to decide what happens to your body but you. Even when you’re unwell, a medical professional can’t touch you, medicate you, order tests or scans, have their hands on you or inside you etc. until they have 1) explained to you what they’re recommending and why; 2) gone through the details of the procedure including how it is done, and any potential risks, benefits, and side effects that may occur; and 3) asked if they may proceed AND you have given your clear consent. Often friends and family tell of us instances when a medical professional has given advice that doesn’t quite sit right and we tell them to get a second opinion, to take some time and look at all the alternative options before making a decision, that medical professionals are not all equal, they are not gods, but human, and that they can make mistakes. Or we hear of medical professionals that have violated someone’s bodily autonomy and we’re angry and horrified (and rightly so!) and tell them it’s not acceptable, and encourage them to make an official complaint and never see that person again. That ultimately, you always have the final say. But, bizarrely, when you become pregnant, all that seems to go out the window... There’s so much ingrained social conditioning and belief that when you become pregnant you must just accept that your body is no longer yours. That they know best. That you need to just submit and hand your body over to a stranger (or even multiple of them) and they will poke and prod you, give you unending tests and scans, and have their hands on you and inside you whenever they deem it necessary. That you leave your dignity at the door. That ultimately, they will have the final say. This belief is unacceptable. It’s infuriating. It’s degrading. It’s demeaning. It needs to stop. The fear mongering, undermining, and infantalising of pregnant women is so insidious and internalised that even the most outspoken and determined will sometimes doubt their rights. You still have the right to bodily autonomy. Your body is still yours, and yours alone. You are still more than capable of taking in information. You are still allowed to seek second opinions. You are still able to look at all the alternative options before making a decision. You still get to decide if/when something will be done to you and/or your baby. Ultimately, you still have the final say.

07.01.2022 Have you suffered loss from the recent fires? Are you able to help those in need? If you have any second hand baby carriers or wraps to donate, here is the information you need. If you know someone in need or are in need yourself, get in touch.

07.01.2022 Our Birth Centre's need expanding. In SA, demand far outweighs capacity. With proven, positive outcomes in comparison to hospital labour wards, why is there still a reluctance to embrace the midwifery-led care of our birth centres (MGP)?

06.01.2022 If you are pregnant, or know someone who is, please consider taking part in this survey (link to complete: https://canberrahealth.az1.qualtrics.com//SV_0q4sCcDAhdTon ) Its so important that we learn how COVID-19 is impacting on pregnant women and if there are any effects from the model of care experienced. It will take around 25 mins to complete. Thank you!

05.01.2022 Point of Difference - PRODUCTS.... Quality products so good, you'll be able to pass on your birthing legacy to the next generation.

05.01.2022 Aaah! Feeling the home birth vibe, with all the fairy lights

05.01.2022 Each of us, holding the space for those caught up in the fires. I've been deeply affected by what we've all been witnessing or experiencing these past few months in Australia. For the locals, I know most of us have been touched personally by the fires on KI, in the Adelaide Hills, on the York Peninsula, Eyre Peninsula and down south of our state. It has been hard to council our own children through the devastating images witnessed on TV. It has been heartbreaking to see all ...those young one's, and babies, being exposed to the physical and emotional stress. There are new mother's out there, trying to survive fires, trying to survive the 4th trimester, trying to protect their babies lives. It hurts my heart and all I can practically do from here for now is donate money. For those Mother's and babies trapped right now, I pray they are able to keep their milk flowing, and that they have enough water and formula to keep feeding. The ADF may not be able to transport them to safety yet, but hopefully they get the support to see them through. I want to share my deep gratitude for all the volunteers who step away from their own families to help our communities. It's the individual hands of support that have selflessly emerged during this hideous summer, that fill me with hope. Thinking of you all right now with the deepest compassion.

05.01.2022 Heartfelt is still doing all it can to support families at this time. Hospital staff can assist greatly xx

05.01.2022 Please consider completing this survey if you have a minute

04.01.2022 Let's talk BIRTH EDUCATION in a nutshell. Hospital Antenatal Classes = Learn about Hospital policy and procedures. Hypnobirth / Calmbirth Classes = Learn about the physiological and psychological process and how you can connect with the experience. ... Midwifery / Doula led Classes = Learn practical strategies to negotiate the physical experience of labour and birth. Personal Birth Stories = Learning about others failures and successes. So what's the ideal? Do you only need classes if you're planning a vaginal birth? What have you found to be the most helpful / powerful source of education? Do you think people are prepared for birth???

04.01.2022 Elective Cesarean's - The opportunity to photograph this type of birth is still a rarity. I have working relationships with particular Obstetricians and Hospitals that enable me to offer my photography services to parents who request it. Sadly, there are more hospital's around Adelaide which still refuse a patient any more than 1 other support person in theatre, than hospitals that embrace parent's requests. I completely understand theatre team reasoning, however it's difficu...lt to explain to them that I'm not a support person. I'm a paid professional, commissioned to do a specialised and highly valued job for their patient. I'm experienced in the theatre environment. I hold appropriate insurances, professional accreditation, and manner within their environment. Most importantly, I'm not there to document their every move, or them at all. I'm there to capture the same thing my client's want to see no matter how they birth - the joy of their new, precious arrival. <3 See more

03.01.2022 I've been neglecting my social media duties... I'm still shooting away in the background! Looking forward to another newborn shoot tomorrow, with double the trouble

02.01.2022 Jessica was a gorgeous birth photography client of mine who shared her important story. This shows the value of birth photography in the wider community
