The ICO model had been born. Initial Coin Offerings were developed to allow startups to circumvent the strict securities laws for IPOs, and to avoid giving up equity as with conventional venture capital funding - by simply sellling 'utility tokens', which provide no ownership rights or control. Vitalik Buterin was introduced to blockchain technology when he got involved in Bitcoin as a 17-year-old programmer in 2011. In 2014 Vitalik and co. crowdfunded over $18 million to get their vision off the ground. Ethereum is an open-source public service that uses blockchain technology to facilitate smart contracts and cryptocurrency trading securely, without a third party. The key difference between Ethereu...m and Bitcoin is Ethereum's ability to trade more than just cryptocurrency. Our second panellist, Professor Riaz Esmailzadeh, will share his expertise in IT management and telecommunications. Professor Esmailzadeh is Teaching Professor of Management of IT at Carnegie Mellon University.... His 30 years of telecommunications experience ranges from publishing on broadband technologies, to teaching topics relating to IT-based entrepreneurship, to being an expert witness in the Apple v Samsung trial at the Federal Court of Australia.
