24.01.2022 A barbecue party is the most popular way for young people getting together in China. Especially at late night out in summer, having some delicious street barbecue, lamb skewers and refreshing cold beer, sitting in an open area and chatting with friends will never go wrong. Chicken wings, prawns, octopus and vegetables are usually marinated before put them on grill, and finishing up with some cumin and chilli. 23.01.2022 Due to the weather condition and high volume of visitors in tomorrow's Street Party, warm tip to everyone: please take umbrellas and other rain gear, also wear warm clothes and comfortable shoes. We have also provided hand sanitizers and anti-bacterial wipes in each stall for hygiene and sanitary protection. If you feel unwell or injured, please seek for our emergency medical station located at the corner of Gouger St. and Field St. We truly wish everyone will have an enjoyable Street Party day and Happy Lunar New Year!

19.01.2022 The 17th Chinatown Lunar New Year Street Party was very successful. Many thanks to everyone’s support and help! We hope you all enjoyed our food, drinks and performances, even we had experienced lots of difficulties but eventually everything went great and we could not make it without all of your support . Thanks to all performers who had presented those amazing shows , all volunteers for your contribution and people who made all kinds of delicious food, wine and all of our s...ponsors. During the event, our Lunar New Year official tote bag were all sold out and all sales had donated to SA Bushfire Appeal. Our Premier Steven Marshall and City Mayor Sandy Verschoor also announced exciting news together that the State Government and the Adelaide City Council will spend $4 million to revamp Moonta St. We are looking forward to see the new development and wish a fresh start to everyone in 2020. We realise there are still lots of challenges to overcome however as long as we all stand together as one community nothing can beat us. See more



19.01.2022 . A series of magnificent Chinese New Year celebration activities will begin on the first day of the lunar month. No matter in the cities or countrysides around China, all families and friends will visit each other for Spring Festival greeting and gathering! Normally the younger members of the family will show their courtesy to the elders such as grandparents and parents. New year money will be placed inside red envelopes known as red packets, and will be given by the elders represent luck and wealth in the new year. 01/02/2020 12pm at Chinatown

Traditionally it usually takes about six hours to cook the tasty and spicy soup base with hot chilli, pepper, bay leaf, cinnamon, star anise and other spices. You can now meet all different kinds of hotpot in our Street Party and select your favourite spot. Lets tour in the hotpot wonderland.

14.01.2022 Peking opera is the most dominant form of Chinese traditional opera which combines music, vocal performance, mime, dance and acrobatics originated in Beijing in the late 18th century. In the early years of Peking Opera, all the actors were men, the role of women were played by young boys. The stories fell into two main categories - wen (civil theatre) which focus on love and family stories, and wu (military theatre) which focus on wars and fights. Peking opera has also well spread to many overseas Chinese communities in order to inherit and represent Chinese culture. 11.01.2022 Chinese calligraphy and painting were established in the Han dynasty and they were the most prestige ancient Chinese art forms. All well educated men and some court women were expected to be proficient at it. Good calligraphy needs an exquisite brush to control, the actual writing with rapid and spontaneous strokes will be ideal. Many of the ancient scripts are still imitated today in modern Chinese writing. Prior and during the Chinese New Year, people will write calligraphy for their best wishes, poems and lucky words. You will also see these traditional art works in our Street Party.

11.01.2022 Jiaozi (Dumplings) signify family reunion, luck and wealth. In northern China, families traditionally spend New Year's Eve together and prepare the dumplings, which are eaten at midnight. The crescent shape of jiaozi symbolizes wealth and prosperity because of the resemblance to ancient Chinese money (silver ingots). We definitely have different kinds of dumplings made for you at the Street Party, steamed or fried, you are going to love them!

06.01.2022 The history of making firework began with the ancient Chinese Han dynasty in 202 BC. As the legend goes, a monster called Nian came out to eat villagers and destroy their houses in the New Years Eve. The villagers discovered that burning dry bamboo could produce an explosive sound to scared away the monster. Therefore, one of the main reasons to play fireworks was to scare away evil spirits.

Greeting lucky words will be cut with red paper for window decoration.
