03.01.2022 We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Alan Brissenden AM, who died on September 9, 2020. Alan was a huge supporter of Adelaide Festival and a significant dance figure in South Australia and nationally. Summed up beautifully by Dance Hub SA, A contribution to culture, beyond measure - his work and impact as an academic, researcher, writer and critic, has documented the history of dance and contemporary arts practice in South Australia to this point in time. His ...passion for dance has championed the art form both in this state and internationally. May the knowledge and conversations about dance, of which we are now custodians, continue to enrich our lives. Alan - The foyers will never be the same without your presence, wit and smile, yet your memory will continue to dance on. There have only been three 'home-grown' directors of the Adelaide Festival in its 60 year history: Rob Brookman, Robyn Archer and Rachel Healy, and Alan taught all three as Senior Lecturer in the English Department at the University of Adelaide from 1963-1982 and Reader from 1982 - 1994. Rest in Peace Alan.
