21.01.2022 Today we announce the addition of two jet skis to the South Australia Police Water Operations fleet. Jet skis enable access to shallow water areas, and due to t...heir maneuverability and speed they will allow operation in surf and wave zones, which will enhance our search and rescue (SAR) capabilities. Alongside SAR operations, the jet skis will be used to conduct watercraft checks, random drug and alcohol tests, licence checks and general marine policing to ensure safer waterways for our community. #WaterOps #JetSki #SouthAustraliaPolice

12.01.2022 Police are seeking information from the public after fireworks caused a fire to the Smoky Bay jetty on Eyre Peninsula earlier this month. Police and emergency ...services were called to the Smoky Bay jetty just before 7am on Saturday 16 January, after reports the jetty was on fire. A local CFS crew extinguished the fire which caused damage to the wooden jetty boards. Police investigating the incident have established fireworks let off on Friday night at about 11.30pm were the cause of the fire, with remnants of the fireworks found nearby. Police are seeking information on persons seen near the jetty on the Friday night letting off fireworks. A dark coloured utility, believed to be a Toyota Hilux with a canopy on the back, was seen to drive on the beach towards the jetty, a person from the vehicle let off a firework on the beach and then parked in the jetty car-park, meeting up with people in a white dual cab with an awning and a tray on the rear, with a tool box directly behind the cab. Two or three people were then seen to walk up the jetty, then shortly after a firework exploded and a male described as a thin build, about 175cms wearing dark clothing was seen running from the jetty to one of the vehicles. Both vehicles then drove off very quietly with the dark coloured Toyota Hilux driving back onto the beach and the white Toyota Hilux left via the road. Anyone with information on the fire or the vehicles seen in the area on Friday night is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

05.01.2022 Police want everyone to enjoy their time on the water safely. A 31-year-old man was issued with a fine for having a 9-year-old acting as an observer while to...wing a tube behind a jetski at Mannum yesterday. The legal age for an observer is 16. The man also returned a positive drug test, which has been sent for forensic analysis. On Sunday, a 38-year-old man operating a small open boat at Mannum recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.257 a staggering five times the legal limit! Police remind all vessel operators, observers and skiers they must be under 0.05 and Water Operations Police will be actively drug and alcohol testing over the holiday period.
03.01.2022 Two men have been found safe on North Page Island after a search near Kangaroo Island. About 2.30pm yesterday (Thursday 3 December) the two men set off from Cap...e Jervis headed towards Cape Willoughby to go fishing. They were expected to return around 6.30pm last night but did not return. Police were notified about 11.50pm and a search was commenced, using the police helicopter and a Challenger search and rescue plane from Victoria, provided by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). The plane's crew located the two men on North Page Island just before 8.30am today (Friday 4 December). The men's upturned vessel was located in waters nearby, and SAPOL's Water Operations Unit will coordinate the recovery of the boat. The two Cape Jervis men, aged 48 and 47 were taken to the Victor Harbor Hospital for a check-up, but were not injured. Inspector Gus Sickerdick, Hills Fleurieu LSA, urges the boating public to wear their flotation devices every time they go out. As happened with these two men, emergency situations can arise rapidly and you may not have time to grab your life jacket. Make sure you, and everyone on your boat, put it on and wear it whenever you are on the water.
03.01.2022 A man is being airlifted to Adelaide following a shark attack in Kangaroo Island waters. About 2.20pm Sunday 6 December emergency services were called to D’Estr...ees Bay after reports a surfer had been bitten by a great white. The man managed to paddle back to shore and sought help from a member of the public who drove him toward Kingscote. Paramedics met the car en route and transported the man the rest of the way to the hospital, he was then air lifted to Adelaide for treatment. Thankfully his injuries are believed to be non-life threatening. Police in conjunction with Fisheries and the local council are in the process of erecting signs to close D'Estrees Bay beach, please avoid the area.
