On the eve of Rosh-Hashanah, it's a good time to understand not only the rules and the prayers but also how these days are set by the Jewish calendar. Although the movement of three heavenly bodies (Sun, Moon and Earth) is known as a very complex problem, we will see how our ancestors succeeded in composing an ever-lasting calendar.

09.01.2022 The Adelaide Hebrew Congregation is delighted to invite the entire Jewish community to a special lecture to be given by Rabbi Yehoshua Grunstein from Israel, on the topic of: Resuscitating remote communities - Will the dry-bones return to life? Do small communities stand a chance of survival? This is an important topic, especially relevant for our small community.... Rabbi Grunstein is the Director of training and placement at the "Straus-Amiel" institute, which provides quality and professional spiritual leadership to communities around the globe. Rabbi Friedler was trained at the Straus-Amiel Institute and Rabbi Grunstein is his esteemed Rabbi and mentor, and Rabbi Friedler would therefore like to extend a personal request to the community to honour Rabbi Grunstein by the their attendance. Please see attached the biography of Rabbi Grunstein. The lecture will take place at the AHC on the 21st February; Minchah and Ma'ariv will be at 7:30, followed by the lecture at 8:00pm. 09.01.2022 Lady Esther Jacobs OBE JP (nee Solomon) was the first woman elected to Adelaide City Council or any local government body in South Australia, the council's first Deputy Lord Mayor 1974-5 and 1976-7 and served as acting Lord Mayor. She was a member of the council for 22 years from 1956 and founded the Local Government Women's Association.
