Don’t underestimate the importance of your role, in partnership with your child’s teacher, in supporting reading improvement at home.

03.01.2022 I can relate to so much of what is said in this video, not as a parent but as a teacher. That feeling of being at a loss to help a student who is clearly not making any advancement in their reading, even after years of intervention. Grasping at straws to find the key to help them because, after all that is why every teacher becomes a teacher. Watching that child withdraw and hearing them refer to themselves as stupid, when clearly they are not. Seeing the frustration of paren...ts who are looking to you for the answers but there was nothing in teacher preparation about dyslexia or best practice, or even how to teach reading. We need to turn this ship around and let preservice teachers (and those of us already teaching) in on the secret!
