25.01.2022 Wooohoooo & helllooooo new followers!! Thank you so much to the amazing ladies who have helped spread the word about Moody over the last few weeks I gue...ss now is as good a time as any to tell you a bit about Moody Activewear & me! Well, that’s me in the pic, lookin like a bit of a cheese ball, I’m Louise I’m from Tyrone, as is my hubby but we’ve been living in Melbourne for almost 11 years! We LOVE our life here in Oz but we’re pretty fond of the rolling green fields of Fintona too, so we might return some day! This time 3 years ago, I was encouraged by my gorgeous / brutal friends to stop whinging about the fact that there was no activewear brand that gave back/stood for something more & to create it myself and well, that was the start of it. It took almost 2 years & lots of hard work/tears/money/learnings/dodgy legging samples/more tears but in March 2018, I launched moodyactivewear.com selling women’s leggings. I refer to Moody as a business & that’s because I run it like a business but it’s actually a registered charity & if we want to get fancy, it’s AKA a social enterprise which means I operate like most businesses...I sell a product to make a profit. The difference is, that after I’ve covered the costs of buying & selling the product, I donate 100% of the profits to organisations that support women’s mental health! Very soon after I launched, I realised that majority of my sales were in Ireland & that using those profits to benefit irish women made wayyy more sense! Ughhh, mental illness is so under resourced at home & I experienced this first hand when we were desperately seeking help for our own wee Mumma for years as she struggled with her mental health So, I quickly changed my donation model so that I would donate to organisations in Oz with the sales made in Oz & donate to organisations in Ireland from sales made in Ireland. Now, as a very small startup, my donations have been modest so far but with every new follower is an opportunity & that’s why I want to say a huge thank you for following! and if you read all of this...nice work xx See more

16.01.2022 Unfortunately following on from two failed attempts at getting a quorum and people to take on committee roles we are in the same situation as last year where we... don't have a GFHASA committee I’m sure there are enough people here to want to keep this organisation and competitions going and maybe titles are getting in the way of us being able to put a new committee together. It’s important that we come together as a group of clubs and a community to do so. You are all aware that the current committee has basically disbanded so for any competitions or games in the future including state games and the local competition some action is necessary. We need to really figure out what is important to us and our playing community for this upcoming year, so please put the call out to your club members to see if there are people who want to get involved, either in administrative or competition game day roles. As a minimum we need 1 person from each team to come together to form the state committee. A meeting to set up a committee for the upcoming GFHASA season will be held in St. Marys Park Clubrooms on Wednesday June 5th at 7PM.

14.01.2022 The President of Ireland represents all the people of Ireland, both at home and abroad, according to president.ie, yet Irish citizens residing outside the cou...ntry have no say at the ballot box on who represents them. Unlike more than 130 countries worldwide, Ireland has no system for citizens abroad to vote in either elections or referenda. Under the 1992 Electoral Act, Irish citizens retain their right to vote for just 18 months after moving abroad, as long as they intend to return to Ireland within that timeframe. There is no postal vote (except in very limited circumstances), so even those who are legally eligible to cast their ballot have to travel to Ireland on the day. Emigrant representatives have been calling for voting rights to be extended to Irish citizens overseas for more than 30 years, but successive governments have been reluctant to address the issue, or have struggled with the practicalities of extending a vote to the Irish diaspora. Who should be able to vote? Should it be limited to Irish-born emigrants, or extended to all Irish citizens? Would a time limit be imposed like it is in the UK, whereby citizens lose their vote 15 years after emigrating? Irish Times Abroad wants to offer its disenfranchised readers living overseas a say, using a bespoke online virtual voting tool for elections and referendums. More than 2,000 members had their say in a similar virtual vote on the Eighth Amendment referendum in May. This week, members of the Irish Times Abroad Network - who are living abroad, and opted in to participate in polls - will receive an invitation by email to cast a ballot in our online virtual vote for the 10th President of Ireland, and in the referendum on blasphemy. Each email will contain a unique link to a ballot paper where they can rank the candidates in order of preference, as well as provide some basic information about themselves, including where they live, how long they have been abroad, their age and gender. They will also be able to indicate whether they would vote Yes to remove the offence of blasphemy from the Constitution, or No to retain it. This ballot will be completely anonymous, and not linked to their Abroad Network profile, so we do not know how each individual votes. To prevent the system being gamed by supporters of a particular candidate or referendum position, the ballot link can only be used once. If you are living outside of the Republic of Ireland and would like to have your say in the virtual vote, you can join the free Irish Times Abroad Network via https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/abroad/join-us . Please ensure you tick the box to participate in polls. You will receive your online ballot paper link by email within 24 hours. The poll will close at 9am (Irish time) on polling day, Friday, October 26th. Results will be published on irishtimes.com and sent to Irish Times Abroad Network members by email. This survey is being conducted among self-selecting individuals. It is not a weighted survey and does not purport to accurately represent the wider Irish emigrant population. All results should be seen as indicative rather than definitive.
