Use the hashtag #TogetherWeRead to join the discussion on social media, visit https://togetherweread.com/aunz/ for discussion questions, or head straight to our virtual library to borrow the book: https://sapln.overdrive.com/media/4295501 Part mystery, part coming of age story, The Van Apfel G...irls are Gone is set in a distant suburb on the encroaching bushland, over the long hot summer of 1992. Blackly comic, sharply observed and wonderfully endearing, this is Picnic at Hanging Rock for a new generation, a haunting coming-of-age story with a shimmering, unexplained mystery at its heart. Making art makes me feel calm and satisfied when I finish it. When I am making, I feel focused and happy.

15.01.2022 Blake’s choice for #StaffPicks this year is from our Freegal music streaming service Fiona Apple’s ‘Fetch the Bolt Cutters’. This was my comfort from the COVID craziness. 08.01.2022 Ben’s fave for #StaffPicks this year is a twist on the classic Sherlock Holmes series Warlock Holmes by GS Denning! As you can imagine there are supernatural elements to the usual Holmesian mysteries and Denning does this really well; very witty and some delightfully descriptive prose. ‘The Finality Problem’ is the most recent title, but you can request the whole series from our catalogue! https://bit.ly/3l60RwQ

08.01.2022 For a 2020 comfort read, Gemma’s #StaffPick is ‘Swordheart’ by T. Kingfisher. This is fantasy that made me snicker on the couch and read bits out loud to anyone who would listen. The characters are fantastically drawn, and I think this year I needed conflict that was less at the scale of ‘world-ending-apocalypse’, and more like ‘mean in-laws’. If you love multi-generational family sagas and stories featuring our connection to the environment then you will love this amazing book featured at this year’s Adelaide Writers' Week. Well developed and interesting characters spanning multiple eras. I think this quote sums up the heart of the story 'What if a family isn’t a tree at all? What if it’s more like a forest?....sheltering each other from wind and weather and drought.' Grab the eBook today from our Virtual Library! https://sapln.overdrive.com/media/5030303 Scribe Publications

03.01.2022 As our SALA at City Library - I am AWE-tistic exhibition comes to a close, its been great to celebrate the artists who have brought so much colour and creativity into the library! For todays final artist feature, meet James Ford. James likes doing art because when there is nothing to do around the house, I usually grab my pencil case and paper, and start to draw stuff that I like I feel very happy when doing it, because even if the picture looks terrible or great, I have a crack at it and have fun along the way. If I could describe myself in one word, I would say that I am happy, happy that I enjoy drawing, happy that I can draw, paint, colour.
