23.01.2022 All Classes postponed until further notice. I have decided to postpone all community classes until further notice. I hope you will understand that by doing this I am trying to get ahead of this awful virus and do what I can to flatten the curve of the pandemic.... I feel as a society we should be putting those who are vulnerable first above all else. I will still be posting and sharing helpful articles and suggestions and now maybe some craft ideas too incase youre self-isolating with kids! Stay healthy and safe everyone, and I look forward to seeing you all in class after the virus has been managed Much love Kate

22.01.2022 Congratulations to this inspiration woman. This also shares some links to her books which cover most ages to inspire the young.

21.01.2022 With libraries closing it may help for you to know that SA Libraries have an e-book facility! Just register for access to Magasines, books and audio books.

21.01.2022 The media is full of stories of fear, selfishness and greed. This is not the full story by any means. Heres a page which is full of lovely real life stories happening now - share with your children, show them that kindness is out there, and the human spirit is strong. It does the soul good ... https://www.facebook.com/groups/515507852491119/?ref=share

20.01.2022 Good morning everyone! The sun is shining, enjoy it, take a deep breath as you feel the warmth on your face. Remember, you are wonderful and loved

20.01.2022 How are you all doing in this so far? Ive found myself saying hello to more people on my beach walk. Im aware that, for many, it may be one of their few human interactions of the day. ( mine too as I live with a nearly teen ) ... Stay well and connected everyone! X

19.01.2022 Happy Harmony Day. Phew what a week weve all had, I hope you are all keeping healthy and calm in these uncertain times. At this time its important to remind children that we all belong, we have the ability to look after each other and keep each other safe. Its a great time to role model Inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all. ... The picture isnt showing physical distancing, but it is showing social inclusion, we are One. Wishing you all health, happiness and love

17.01.2022 We are all having to make huge adjustments to our lives. Most of us are just trying to find a new normal, and that takes time, and it may be a lot of trial and error. And thats okay. Big hugs to all the parents out there just figuring it all out and doing their best

17.01.2022 To ALL PARENTS: Youre doing a wonderful job

16.01.2022 Please stay home if you can. Its so important that we all do our best to help ease the burden on our health system and protect ourselves and each other, especially those most vulnerable. Xx

16.01.2022 The best gift you can give your child : a feeling of love, belonging and security

16.01.2022 These are to say the least challenging times. Reframing is a great tool to use, allowing adjustment and calm into our lives. Look after each other, keep yourself as healthy as you can and keep connections with family and friends. Take this time to text friends to check in on them.

13.01.2022 I love this. Reframing how we look at ‘successful parenting’

12.01.2022 What a magical idea

12.01.2022 My kids ( okay and me too!) love David Walliams books. You can hear him read a story each day for FREE! Great for a little quiet time, snuggle together and listen each day https://bit.ly/AudioElevenses

11.01.2022 This is such a great idea - the whole family can get involved .

11.01.2022 I’ve thought long and hard about whether to comment on this page on the horrific scenes we’ve seen coming out of the US. But here’s the thing, as parents we have the responsibility to teach our children about love, respect, equality and injustice, even though those conversations may, at times, be uncomfortable. We don’t have to lecture, scare or impose. A simple comment is all it takes to sow the seed of love, acceptance and understanding. That may lead to more in depth co...nversations as they grow older. We owe it to past and future generations of all races to teach our children that racism exists and is harmful. We owe it to all children to teach them that black lives matter. Books are a wonderful way to start conversations. Here are some books which may help. Much love #blacklivesmatter

02.01.2022 And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were st...ill. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently. "And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal. "And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed." ~Kitty O'Meara Thank you my beautiful Sister Janneke Hellebrekers for bringing this beautiful writing @ sacred art to my awareness! 01.01.2022 A letter from a school principal and teacher Dear parents with school aged children You might be inclined to create a minute by minute schedule for your kids.... You have high hopes of hours of learning, including online activities, science experiments, and book reports. Youll limit technology until everything is done! But heres the thing... Our kids are just as scared as we are right now. Our kids not only can hear everything that is going on around them, but they feel our constant tension and anxiety. They have never experienced anything like this before. Although the idea of being off of school for weeks sounds awesome, they are probably picturing a fun time like summer break, not the reality of being trapped at home and not seeing their friends. Over the coming weeks, you will see an increase in behavior issues with your kids. Whether its anxiety, or anger, or protest that they cant do things normally - it will happen. Youll see more meltdowns, tantrums, and oppositional behavior in the coming weeks. This is normal and expected under these circumstances. What kids need right now is to feel comforted and loved. To feel like its all going to be ok. And that might mean that you tear up your perfect schedule and love on your kids a bit more. Play outside and go on walks. Bake cookies and paint pictures. Play board games and watch movies. Do a science experiment together or find virtual field trips of the zoo. Start a book and read together as a family. Snuggle under warm blankets and do nothing. Dont worry about them regressing in school. Every single kid is in this boat and they all will be ok. When we are back in the classroom, we will all course correct and meet them where they are. Teachers are experts at this! Dont pick fights with your kids because they dont want to do math. Dont scream at your kids for not following the schedule. Dont mandate 2 hours of learning time if they are resisting it. If I can leave you with one thing, its this: at the end of all of this, your kids mental health will be more important than their academic skills. And how they felt during this time will stay with them long after the memory of what they did during those weeks is long gone. So keep that in mind, every single day..."
