21.01.2022 RELEASE: At the end of June, FAME was on site in Queensland to help with the first release of Mary River Turtle hatchlings into the wild! This exciting moment i...s the culmination of more than a year of hard work. With an ageing population, and unknown reasons as to why young turtles aren’t surviving to adulthood, time has been running out for this iconic species. Over the past 15 months, our project partners Tiaro & District Landcare Group have embarked on a journey without precedent. After rescuing turtle eggs from vulnerable nests - at risk of predation by foxes and goannas, or by crushing under the hooves of cattle - custom-built tanks were designed to reflect the turtles’ wild habitat and allow them to grow in size safely. This video documents the day of the release, and features Professor Hamish Campbell from @charlesdarwinuniversity, and Marilyn Connell from @MaryRiverTurtleProjectTiaroLandcare. You can learn more about the project at FAME.org.au/projects A big thank you to all who made this possible, including the Albert and Barbara Tucker Foundation, Macpac Fund for Good, our project partners and the amazing FAME community of donors. 20.01.2022 Leucistic Little Whip Snake (Suta flagellum) removed from a property in the Adelaide Hills today. Could not believe my eyes when I saw this thing, what an absolute privilege to see. It was a nice big healthy adult too, so clearly surviving well in the bush and hopefully for years to come.

20.01.2022 ...... a shame on us in this country. "The loss of the species confirms Australia’s unenviable position as the world’s capital for mammal extinction, lifting the total number known to have died out to 34."

20.01.2022 Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but there can be no argument about the Collett's Snake, Pseudechis colletti being the most colourful of the larger venomou...s Australian snakes. Very popular in the snake keeping hobby and readily bred, but finding one in the wild is truly rare occasion. So Gary Stephenson and I counted ourselves lucky not to have run over it when this juvenile crossed the road near Winton. We had also found the previously posted Black-headed Python and the Woodland Adder on the same trip. See more

16.01.2022 My daughter came home with some tadpoles and one quickly turned into the tiniest frog. We have four striped marsh frogs as well and it's too small to eat the ba...by crickets we feed them. Does anyone know what type this tiny frog is and what we can feed it? We're in Warriewood, NSW and our place is right on the border of the wetlands. (Daughter named it Tic Tac but a Tic Tac dwarfs it.) See more

15.01.2022 Orange-naped Snake aka Moon Snake (Furina ornata) gravid female, E of Fitzroy Crossing, Kimberley Region , Western Australia. The latter name might be more appropriate with this large (TL 695mm) melanistic individual.

07.01.2022 We have done it again! We have broken the record for the most raw venom extracted in a single yield from a Coastal Taipan. This time, the previous record of 3.3...2 grams by Whiplash was SMASHED by Cyclone who delivered a huge 4.45 grams! It is estimated that this amount of venom is enough to kill over 1,000 adults! But instead, every drop of the venom is going straight towards to saving lives with our life saving antivenom program!

02.01.2022 Hi, I'm a documentary filmmaker extremely passionate about human-animal coexistence stories (: If possible, I'd like to invite you to check out our new campaign... for my upcoming documentary Mother Crocodile on Documentary Australia Foundation and ask you to kindly contribute by donating/sharing/following/commenting, interacting with us https://documentaryaustralia.com.au/proje/mother-crocodile/ Dr. Marise Tellez from Crocodile Research Coalition (CRC) kindly wrote about our film: "The very westernised thought of anthropomorphising animals is not wrong at all. To think of animals as having feelings, thoughts, emotions, it has never been seen as "wrong" to someone of indigenous background. I think this film breaks that barrier which I believe needs to be broken if we are truly going to build that bridge between nature and humans once again. Matadora Films production, Trailer below:
