25.01.2022 So the cold wet weather is well on it’s way, and I’ve had a few people ask about releasing butterflies in this weather. Ideally, release your butterfly when it’s above 20 degrees and not raining. Make sure their wings are flapping and strong. If you have to keep them more than a day, you’ll need to supplement their food with sugar water or over-ripe fruit. Hand feed them by holding them gently in your non-dominant hand. I place my fingers to gently clamp their wings together..., folded inwards. Then with my dominant (I’m right handed), I dip a toothpick in the fruit/sugar solution and then use it to gently prise their proboscis (straw-like tongue). It’s coiled up in their ‘chin’ area. They may protest and put legs in the way, so it might take a few attempts to unravel their proboscis. (Just persist and remain as precise and gentle as you can. They’ll catch on, especially as they keep tasting the sweetness). When the proboscis is fully uncoiled, place it into the nectar-substitute - exposed over-ripe fruit flesh or sugar solution (if using sugar solution, place it in shallow bottle tops and lead them to it). If you need further help, there are plenty of videos on YouTube. Wade through them as some are great and some are ordinary. Remember as soon as there’s a sunny patch of weather, let them go. They have such short lives and need to cram a lot of living and breeding into it. Good luck butterfly carers xxx See more

25.01.2022 Well it’s the first week of winter and my garden was full of butterflies enjoying a sunny day, dancing, romancing & laying eggs, and I have surprisingly kept finding baby caterpillars to rescue. Thanks to those of you, that have bought them, we were able to rescue a lot more caterpillars this year, so the population is very healthy. If you‘ve not experienced it yet, or you have a friend you’d like to share the experience with, I still have plenty of chrysalises available. $10 each. Pickup from Magill

24.01.2022 Thank you for your patronage this year. The last of our caterpillars are forming chrysalises now as winter takes form again. (Although I do have several still available, these winter butterflies will only be sold with special instructions on how to release butterflies over winter. They will need to be housed & fed until a reasonable sunny day for release). I will be closing business shortly until Spring time. We wish you all a much better second half of 2020, and look forward to speaking with you in a few months (and hopefully your friends you’ve told about your experience too). Stay warm and well. Take care xoxox

22.01.2022 Special order for a nature-lovers funeral - Monarch butterflies ready for flight They’ve been well fed and now are impatiently waiting until they’re released tomorrow morning. If you’re familiar with the term opening a can of worms, well, Hand feeding & transporting butterflies from one container to another is a bit like that. They’re not known as Wanderers for nothing lol

20.01.2022 Ever seen anything like this? Magnetic Island, off the coast of Townsville, QLD, comes alive with hundreds of thousands of blue tiger butterflies! : Michael Insch

18.01.2022 Facebook marketplace will not allow me to advertise this service, as they have a strict no pet sales rule. But this isn’t about keeping, capturing or dominating natures creatures, but about protecting, observing and then releasing it to be free again. If you have a budding nature or science enthusiast child, or you’re one yourself, watching the amazing magical process of caterpillar to butterfly never gets old! Lockdown is a great time for families to have home experiences like this, together!

16.01.2022 We released 7 butterflies yesterday. 5 female & 2 male. Everyone in our multi-gen home were able to release one. It’s so lovely to see my 74 year old Dad enjoy releasing a new life amid all the chaos of the outer world around us. Reminds us to treasure every day we have

16.01.2022 Thank you for all the messages. My caterpillars are free range births lol. I rescue them as babies and return to the wild once they’re butterflies, so I cannot predict numbers. But I anticipate more chrysalises in November Thank you for all the messages. My caterpillars are free range births lol. 10.01.2022 We still have plenty of caterpillars & chrysalises are forming daily

09.01.2022 The miracle never dulls. What a great day to be reborn. Today we’ve released 4 butterflies, and are excitedly waiting on 4 more, including this beauty

04.01.2022 Did you know that a caterpillar to butterfly success rate in the wild is only 1%! Predators like wasps and shield bugs prey on defenceless caterpillars and chrysalis’s. When you buy a chrysalis from us, you are helping more butterflies being born into our world
