25.01.2022 My next online English Tunes Workshop will be happening this time next weekend. I'm starting to choose the tunes, but I can't get this one from last month out o...f my head! John Thomas' Hornpipe; maybe, but maybe not from Wales. Link to workshop in the comments. Share around, and come along! See more

23.01.2022 Probably no surprise to anyone that we won't be going to the Nash (National Folk Festival) this year! Well... there is no Nash this year. We are also suspending club meetings and other get-togethers at least until the end of April. Keep an eye out here for any further updates.

23.01.2022 In light of these challenging times, we have decided to keep the Scholarship applications for Stringmania open for another month until June 30th! While we prac...tice caution and keep our eyes on health policy changes, Stringmania are optimistic that our 2020 camp will go ahead with some adaptations. We can't wait to come together again in October to learn and connect all things music and community. Scholarships for financial support are open for anyone of any age or musical ability, and will be awarded on the basis of financial need and interest in string playing. This photo is of the 2019 partial scholarship awardees, with representatives of all of Australia's mainland states and territories. Early Bird registrations are all still open! If we do need to cancel due to Covid-19 all payments and deposits will be refunded to you. Apply now via the website or get in touch with any questions. @melbourneceilicamera #stringmusiccamp #musicscholarship #earlybirdprices #stringplayers #communitymusic #wurundjericountry #australianmusic #yarravalley

15.01.2022 We are a Community orchestra performing Scottish, Cape Breton, Irish and Scandinavian works. Supportive, fun environment with most tunes learnt by ear. New members of all ages and playing levels welcome. Come and find out more at our meetings, third Sunday of each month.

08.01.2022 We had a sellout concert last night, but tickets still available for our Fringe show next week!

06.01.2022 Join us the next two weeks online with Adam Sutherland - Interactive tune writing workshop - Wednesday 7.30pm the 17th and 24th! Adam will be running a two-...part tune writing workshop. In the first session, he will share some of his writing process, tips, tricks and stories, and will give you a tune writing prompt for homework. In the second session, the new tunes you have written will be explored, performed and discussed, and Adam will offer feedback and support in your tune writing endeavors! This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the biggest names in trad tune writing today. Adam Sutherland comes from Errogie in the Highlands of Scotland. He is one of Scotland’s most exciting fiddle players, composers and teachers in a thriving scene, drenched with talent. Outfits that Adam has been a part of include The Treacherous Orchestra, Session A9, Peatbog Faeries, Babelfish and Croft no. Five. He has also played with a host of other well known acts including Salsa Celtica and Manran. Adam’s tunes are perhaps his most impressive legacy and are played in music sessions and on youtube videos all over the world. All artists are paid for their time, and attendence is free, but we welcome donations on Crowdcast for those who are able, so we can keep these sessions going and continue learning and supporting our fellow musicians. Tell your friends, any and all are welcome! More info and register here: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/stringmania-online-12/register

04.01.2022 Has anyone *tried* (and can recommend) any music virtual meeting environments - where people can jam along in "real" time? We've had a crack a Skype and Zoom but latency is a real problem.

01.01.2022 We’ve just had a fabulous week playing two sell-out concerts for the Fringe. Here’s us about to perform at beautiful Carclew in North Adelaide. Thanks to all our wonderful audience members for coming. Our next concerts will be over Easter, at the National Folk Festival in Canberra.
