25.01.2022 And the Summer bounty continues .... harvested the first corn for the season .... plus more cucumbers (Lebanese, Lemon & Parisian Pickling), tomatoes and raspberries.

24.01.2022 Sweating it out to erect some temporary (aka semi-permanent ) shade over young avocados and citrus to protect from this crazy scorching sun. Thankful we’ve made it to almost mid-Jan before a string of super hot days.

21.01.2022 Loving Spring/Summer!! Hooray for early ripening stone fruit! Part of my first crop of Springcrest Yellow Peach. Raspberries ripening- just enough for me to eat as a snack And hello button squash and zucchini

21.01.2022 A positive outcome of being behind schedule is that Mother Nature has time to do her thing. Today I finally cleared & weeded last year’s Malabar Spinach patch, ready for new seedlings. Nature was already taking care of it - I found 15 self seeded seedlings. I hope she didn’t mind I moved 12 of them!

20.01.2022 And the apricot harvest continues at home. Our wonderful tree has yielded approx 70kg of fruit this year. I’m busy making jam, stewing & dehydrating .... really need two of me - one to work the farm & the other to deal with all the produce

15.01.2022 Yellow peaches galore! We’re lucky at the farm to have a very old yellow freestone peach (Elberta, I think). It has ripened very early this year ..... so fruit leathers are on the go. But what I’m more chuffed about ...... what to do the left over fruit leather mix? Just add ice cream (Golden North, of course), ice cubes & blitz for a to-die-for peach smoothie! Delicious

15.01.2022 What a day in SA. We’d been doing so well, but in a few short days the COVID sh*t show has turned our world upside down. While the Premier was announcing our 6 day emergency lock down, this is what I was doing ...... harvesting garlic!! (Not queuing to buy toilet paper ) Behind schedule as usual, but I’m reasonably happy with the crop. Heads not as big as last year - I think I let the weeds get away from me too many times. I harvested over 310 heads across 7 varieties - Whit...e Crookneck, Melbourne Market, Monaro Purple, Italian Late, Spanish Rojo, Russian Elephant and Rose du Var. Now to tie them all up to cure .....

11.01.2022 Today. Very excited to harvest my first ever raspberries! There were 5 but I couldn’t resist eating one Later I was prep’g a bed ready to plant. It was my potato bed last season & then had a cover crop over winter ..... a few sneaky potatoes missed my careful harvesting & grew on pretending to be clover. Bonus spuds for dinner tonight!!

09.01.2022 Apricot delicious-ness. First ever harvest from the Moorpark at AUFM (planted as a 2 yo tree in 2019) - 16 apricots 990 grams . We also started harvesting our Moorpark at home on the 26th December (6kg - earliest start ever) and continued today with another 550 apricots 30kg. Estimating we’re 60% through the crop. A consistently awesome cropping tree. This one was planted in 2005. Can’t beat the flavour of home grown apricots

08.01.2022 Check out these beauties!! We harvested about 75% of our Fantasia peacherines today. Almost 200 fruit weighing approx 40kg. This tree is consistently awesome every year.

04.01.2022 Do you ever hear a little voice in your head? Mine’s been saying pumpkin ... pumpkin .... for a few weeks. Today it just dawned on me WHY. I have a 12m bed of corn with pumpkin / melons planted underneath. I’ve been busy netting individual corn cobs to fight the mice & started harvesting a few cobs. I thought I hadn’t seen many pumpkins. Today I checked closely .... In fact there are none ..... because I forgot to plant them WTF?? Really? They are ALL melons. Went b...ack & checked my planting records & sure enough .... no pumpkin. Still can’t believe it. My only excuse is sleep deprivation as we’d recently welcomed a new puppy to our home when I was launching into Spring plantings. Good news is we’ll have LOTS of melons I planted a late crop of corn today. So threw some pumpkin seeds in too. Don’t hold out much hope they’ll grow & ripen before Winter, but you never know!

04.01.2022 Yum! Plums First harvest of Mariposa Plums planted in 2019 as a 2 yo tree. Pretty happy with its’ first crop ... 36 plums (approx 3kg) with a few still on the tree.

03.01.2022 A little basket of goodness - self seeded tatsoi & cherry tomatoes, eggplants from last year’s plants, plus zucchini’s, button squash & cucumbers from this year’s plantings .... and a few white peaches to top it off. Yum!
