22.01.2022 Did you know that leek and onion flowers are edible? They go through a first phase of little lavender coloured and mildly onion flavoured tubular flower stars all congregating on the ball shaped head. After the bees have visited, the petals disappear and the seeds begin to form. At this stage I don’t eat the flowers as they can be very chewy. It won’t be long before you’ll be able to collect the seeds to sow again a few months later. #edibleflowers... #ecobotanica See more
21.01.2022 Oh pretty! Edibles from our garden. We’ve still got plenty blooming out there too. In this punnet are violas, cosmos, dianthus, elderflower, Snap dragons, sweet William and more
20.01.2022 I couldn’t resist showing you another shot of the trombocini flowers I used on yesterday’s pizzas.
19.01.2022 The light caught the centre of this Trombocino flower as I was taking the photo. Doesn’t it look like there’s a spotlight in there? Perhaps a light at the end of the tunnel? These flowers went onto the pizzas for our garden visitors yesterday-the students of @LeCordonBleu Brisbane yesterday. After removing the stamens of the flowers, I popped lemon thyme flowers and bocconcini into the centre of each. I’m delighted to say that the spectacle of flower pizzas garnered many gasps of appreciation and clicks of phone cameras.
18.01.2022 This buttery looking loveliness is fresh bees wax purified from our bee hives after we’ve collected the honey. It’s all prepared now and ready for you to use when you join the Beeswax Wraps class on Saturday 13 February. I’ll take you through the process of making natural organic cotton wraps that you’ll use instead of plastic wrap on your food. It’s a really lovely way to go a little greener and to make a difference. Would you like to join us? Book your spot through Eventbrite either by searching Eventbrite Ecobotanica or by opening my Ecobotanica.com.au/classes page.
11.01.2022 Savoury flowers? Yes why not. Have a listen in to this short video.
10.01.2022 Edible flowers going out to LeToria's today. Aren’t they so colourful?
09.01.2022 Meet a very fragrant rose called Fruity Parfuma This one’s growing in our organic garden and is thoroughly enjoying the summer heat and rain. Not a spot of fungus on the leaves either. She’s definitely a keeper. Considered a small bush, I was surprised to find that it arched gracefully to about 2 metres tall and grew over the other minis in the garden. I’ll be taking cuttings of these to propagate more when the time is right.
07.01.2022 Sunday 31 January at 2 pm I’m running an online class with Carindale library as hosts. I’d love you to listen in and take some inspiration for your own garden and what to do with the produce you can grow each summer. To be part of this online session you need to call the library to get a password and they’ll tell you how easy it is to join the zoom session. The number for the library is 34071490 I hope you can find time to join. We will have quite a few people listening in from their own devices with you.
