23.01.2022 Today, June 15th marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day ("WEAAD"). Elder Abuse is defined by the World Health Organisation ("WHO") as: "A SINGLE, OR REPEATED ACT, OR LACK OF APPROPRIATE ACTION, OCCURRING WITHIN ANY RELATIONSHIP WHERE THERE IS AN EXPECTATION OF TRUST, WHICH CAUSES HARM TO AN OLDER PERSON"... According to the WHO, 15.7% of people above the age of 60 years are subjected to abuse. This figure may in actual fact be much higher as there would be many instances of Elder Abuse occurring in our communities that are not reported. There are various forms of Elder Abuse, including: - Physical abuse or neglect; - Financial abuse; - Psychological abuse; - Sexual abuse; and - Chemical abuse. The NSW Ageing & Disability Commission, along with NSW Police and Blacktown City Council have out together a video to raise awareness of Elder Abuse in our communities. It is our responsibility as a society to care for the older members of our community. #worldelderabuseawarenessday2020 #elderlaw #elderabuse #estateplanning

22.01.2022 I recently (pre COVID-19 restrictions) had the incredible privilege of being interviewed by the College of Law Australia in relation to my experience with the Master of Laws (Applied Law) program offered by the College in which I majored in my beloved area of Wills & Estates. The College had interviewed me some years ago when I was about to finish my Masters degree with them and wanted to catch up with me again since completing this degree and obtaining my specialist accredi...tation. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the College of Law for this video! It was a real pleasure to sit down with you all again! X https://youtu.be/mi0si5J0tI0

22.01.2022 In the ever changing landscape of Estate Planning, Better Homes & Gardens Australia have highlighted some important considerations to include in your Will. Like all aspects of Estate Planning, it is crucial that you discuss your wishes and circumstances with an experienced Estate Planning Lawyer to ensure that you are provided with all the legal options available to you and that a solution is tailored for your particular circumstances.

21.01.2022 This week is National Advanced Care Planning Week. An Advanced Care Directive (ACD) is a legal document that allows you to specify your wishes regarding your end of life decisions in the event that you no longer have the capacity to make those decisions yourself. An ACD can be included in your Appointment of Enduring Guardian or can be a stand-alone document. Regardless, an ACD is an incredibly important part of your Estate Plan. Without one, choices about your care will be made without your input! If you wish to put in place an ACD or discuss the benefits of an ACD, please do not hesitate to contact me!

04.01.2022 Wishing all of my clients, friends and supporters a very happy Easter!

03.01.2022 - Estate Planning amidst the COVID-19 pandemic - The NSW Government have today passed emergency regulations that allow for remote witnessing of certain documents (including some estate planning documents) via audio-visual link during the COVID-19 pandemic. What this means is that during this pandemic, where most people are self-isolating and/or engaging in social distancing to help with the reduction of the transmission of this virus, in a large number of circumstances, the...y will still be able to sign some of their important estate planning documents from the comfort of their own home or office with their solicitor (and others) witnessing the execution of their documents via a video-conference. Although, this may not be possible for everyone, it is certainly a welcomed measure to allow for important legal services to continue despite this pandemic. If your Estate Planning "project" has been on your to do list, now is a great time to get this project off and running! Contact me for an obligation free chat! https://www.nsw.gov.au//covid-19-video-tech-for-witnessing
