24.01.2022 Today Yellow Tribe had a special visit from Leah who is a dentist from 1300 Smiles. Leah was kind enough to visit the children to discuss what its like to visit the dentist and the importance of brushing our teeth. Leah read the children a special book about cleaning our teeth and discussed the five different types of nasties that grow and live in our mouths and teeth. Leah also had her trusty helper Puff the Dragon come along to show the children how to brush and floss their teeth properly. What a fun visit to have after celebrating Dental Week! Thank you Leah.
23.01.2022 Yellow Tribe enjoyed a visit from Miss Fiona from the council, who talked to us about our worm farm. We learnt about what the worms do, what they look like and how we can provide a healthy environment for them to live in. Miss Fiona explained that worms need all the things we need to survive; Water, food, air and shelter. She also explained to us that worms dig and burrow under the wet damp soil because they love being wet. They dont like the sun and hide away from it. Thanks for the visit Miss Fiona

Learnt about the dances that each indigenous nation performs. Participated in art experiences including natural resources and traditional methods. Discussed and developed recognition skills using indigenous symbols. Explored the indigenous cultures clothing, living arrangements, day to day jobs, hunting practices and food sources. We also designed our own aboriginal flag today. The children helped Miss Erin tape the flag together, then created their own designs on the flag using paint in flags colours of: Yellow: represents the sun Black: represents the people Red: represents the land Using cotton buds, the children created patterns with dots, swirls and lines, to create a beautiful piece of artwork to display in our NAIDOC Week area. QKLG Key Focus: Connectedness - shows increasing respect for diversity: Children show an increasing respect for diversity by showing interest in their own and others cultures, and learning respect for others.
20.01.2022 On Monday the Yellow Tribe had a visit from Sensei Kat and some Japanese friends. All of the children had fun meeting the visitors and involving them in their play. We sung some Japanese songs, as well as taught our friends some of our English favourites like Hokey Pokey and Dingle Dangle Scarecrow. While we were engaging in free play with our visitors, we had a lesson on the art of origami. Some of the children joined in to construct a WHOLE BAG FULL of paper ninja stars, which we got to keep as a souvenir of our new friends. The children explored the diversity of culture, heritage, background and tradition and that diversity presents opportunities for choices and new understandings.
20.01.2022 Konnichiwa Kids Club Adeona is passionate about the diversity of our centre as we have a lot of families and staff who come from various back ground and countries. We are thrilled to be offering Konnichiwa Kids Club through our centre again for 2020.... Our curriculum delivery encourages and exposes our children to the opportunity to explore the diversity of culture, heritage, back grounds and traditions. Through these weekly Wednesday sessions our children are building positive relationships, as they show and share respect for diversity whilst responding to a sense of connectedness and different ways of belonging.
20.01.2022 Fire Fighter Visit The children enjoyed having a visit from the Fire and Rescue Services. The children enjoyed hearing all about the duties a fire fighter undertakes and asked many different questions. 20.01.2022 The children are actively engaged in a variety of rich, meaningful, inquiry-based experiences in both indoor and outdoor environments. The children challenged themselves to support exploration and experimentation with the help from Mr Sam to create a dinosaur swamp land.
19.01.2022 The children in the Yellow tribe have been building on their interest in gardening and creating a new outdoor environments for them to explore and engage in. Recently we started work on our new vertical garden (located just outside yellow tribe next to the shed). The children helped Sam go through our recyclables pulling out all our milk bottles. Sam carefully cut the bottoms of the bottles and put some holes in the lids.... The next step was hammering the bottles onto the pallet. Once the bottles were securely attached, the children worked together to fill up the bottles with some spagmoss (it helps hold the moisture) and some soil. Through this activity the children are developing dispositions for learning such as curiosity and cooperation, by exploring and learning about plants and working alongside others to plant their own. They also transfer what they have learned in discussions and stories, and use this information to grow their own plants. This area is looking AMAZING............... thank you to everyone involved.

We Cant wait for Stacey to come back and see how much they have grown.

Kylie spent time with the children and talked about - * The attributes of different animals * How to recognise different emotions from animals * How to take care of pets... * How to safely pat a dog * What to do in the event of a vicious dog encounter The children were very attentive and welcoming towards the new classroom visitor, and everyone seemed interested in learning about pets. At the end of the visit, we presented Kylie with the boxes of donated items and she returned the kind gesture with a book mark and sticker for everyone.
16.01.2022 Recycle bread tags to fund wheelchairs Bread tags for Wheelchairs is a community program that Adeona Mackay is involved in collecting as they are being sold to plastic recycling companies. There, the bread tags are repurposed into a range of products such as seedling trays, picture frames, door knobs, coat hangers and more. Thats not all though - the money earned from selling the tags is used to buy wheelchairs for people who cant afford them. So we need your help to collect the bread tags and place them in the collection bin in the foyer.

16.01.2022 So, this year due to Covid19, our usual annual NAIDOC celebrations were postponed nation- wide until November. At Adeona, we decided that we still wanted to share the amazing aboriginal culture within our centre with the children and their families. Our staff collaborated with the children, their families, the community and each other to create a curriculum that would allow multiple opportunities for the children to explore and learn more about the aboriginal culture including bush tucker, songs, dance, art and ways of living when on country. We hope that you enjoy this corroboree collaboration as much as we did.
