25.01.2022 We "trust infants to do what their body is able to do, and give children time to achieve the next physical milestone when they are ready" (Magda Gerber). When children's motor development is able to unfold naturally, they become physically self-assured to safely navigate the environment around them.
25.01.2022 "Children learn words and language skills from listening and engaging in stories, songs and conversations. By reading aloud, sharing stories and singing with your child, you are helping them become familiar with words and sounds. This will develop early literacy skills and help them to go on to read successfully later in life." https://earlychildhood.qld.gov.au//why-reading-is-important

24.01.2022 Its Crazy Hair Day in Yellow Tribe today! Dont our Kindy Educators look fantastic?
24.01.2022 It is really important to us that the children are a part of the boundary setting process. Showing responsibility and pride in their space, some of the kindy children asked to make signs to remind everybody to take care of our new sand. When children leave our kindy, we want them to leave as self sufficient members of a democratic community.
23.01.2022 Introducing the children to the magic that is a vinegar and bicarb soda volcano.
23.01.2022 What a lovely way to teach children about the way to stay safe during the Coronavirus pandemic. Thanks ABC Kids Community!
23.01.2022 Today, the team from Adeona Mitchelton completed training with our sister centre, Adeona Coorparoo. The team from In Safe Hands gave us the tools to handle many situations that may arise within an early childhood context. The team are now trained in: - Child protection - Food handling and nutrition - Workplace health and safety and,... - Fire safety We complete these trainings once a year as a team so that we are best equipped to accept any challenge that comes our way.
22.01.2022 Did you catch us at Brookside Shopping Centre on Friday? Keep an eye out for where we might pop up in the future! We’d love to have a chat with you!
22.01.2022 Over the last month, we have been exploring a centre wide interest and project on bees! The children and educators have been learning lots about native stingless bees and incorporating this interest into all aspects of the program. Earlier this week, one of our Kindergarten children brought in their bee keeper suit for 'show and share'. They also brought in some local honeycomb to share with all of the children at the service! Our interest is now stronger than ever!
22.01.2022 Following on from the discovery of the witchetty grub earlier in the week, the children have been engaging with Aboriginal symbols and texts. This has become a strong theme that the children have exploring through their drawing.
21.01.2022 "As small children, we lived in a multimodal world. We discovered that art was a language with as much communication power as speech. Later we learned, like oral language, that the arts could act as a bridge to reading and writing and that music and movement had the same potential for contributing to our expression of meaning and self" Crafton, Silvers & Brennan (2017)
21.01.2022 Dont forget to look out for each other during this challenging time.
21.01.2022 We wanted to be a part of the bear hunt too! Come and see us at 43 Nicholson St, Mitchelton!
21.01.2022 We are beyond excited to announce that Adeona Mitchelton has received a food safety rating of 5 stars! We look forward to continuing to provide the children with safe, hygienic and nutritious meals.
21.01.2022 We have been very curious about what has been happening at our neighbour's house. Today we discovered they're building a pool! The children kept jumping up to see the construction and Miss Mel suggested that we bring in some a-frames and a wooden plank to stand on so we could see what was happening. Great idea, Miss Mel!
21.01.2022 There are so many opportunities to learn by engaging with the world around us. Something as simple as drawing with chalk on the pavement can set the foundation for writing later.
19.01.2022 Remember our nature project from earlier in the week? Our Kindy group has begun to explore the science of how flowers grow! We've noticed lots of native bees hanging around in our playground lately. After investigating this interesting looking bee and insect house, the group has fixed it to our arbour and planted some insect friendly seeds in the recycled wheelbarrow. I wonder what will happen next?

19.01.2022 We are enjoying this wet weather! The children are building important motor skills and the ability to balance. They are investigating, exploring and enjoying the different physical challenges that a wet environment provides them.
19.01.2022 Lets go on an adventure!
19.01.2022 Exavadora Amarilla There has been lots of excitement at Adeona over the last two weeks as the house next door gets demolished. A big yellow excavator has been working hard to knock down the house and remove all of the pieces left behind. The children have loved watching this process occur and our Red Tribe window has been the place to be as the children watch this work happen. Yesterday our Spanish lesson centred around the yellow excavator and our Spanish Teacher used the children's interests to build our own exavadora amarilla.
19.01.2022 One of the resident kookaburras stopped by to check out their inspired mural. Can you see them?
18.01.2022 "Add a pinch of adventure, a sprinkle of green time, and a big handful of play." - Penny Whitehouse

16.01.2022 Many people are doing it tough at the moment. We did our part this morning by donating our excess food to OzHarvest Brisbane. Its so important that we teach children the importance of coming together and being there for each other in difficult times. They will, after all, be the leaders of the future.
16.01.2022 Were so proud of our Dads Group! #Dadeona #BOM #BoysofMitchelton
15.01.2022 Our sandpit was refilled over the weekend! The children and educators were so excited to get out into the yard this morning to explore! Sand is such an important learning tool for children and can be used to develop many important skills like motor development, mathematical and science knowledge, as well as social skills.
14.01.2022 This morning, the children were looking for insects under the big logs in our yard. They found a big, white witchetty grub! The children were curious about its shape and how it moved its body. We started to do a little research, and found that witchetty grubs are high in protein and have long been important to the diets of Aboriginal people. How lucky we are to have such a natural space that allows the children to learn about Australia's rich culture and ecosystem!
14.01.2022 We didnt think the day would ever come! We planted a passionfruit vine underneath the trellis when we first opened, 4 years ago. The children were curious about why it never grew and after some research, we found that there was not enough sun for the plant to thrive. We moved the plant 6 months ago and today, the children were so excited to let us know that we had our first passionfruit! Now to research some recipes! Patience is bitter. But its fruit is sweet. Aristotle
13.01.2022 It’s finally Book Week! Today we were so excited to have a visit from the QLD Ballet Academy. We did some stretches and learned some ballet poses before listening to a special story. Tomorrow is our Book Week dress up day. We can’t wait to see which characters arrive in the morning!
13.01.2022 The team have been reflecting on the spaces in the rooms and spent some time last week creating new and exciting learning provocations for the children. The environment should act as an aquarium which reflects the ideas, ethics, attitudes and culture of the people who live in it. This is what we are working towards. Loris Malaguzzi
12.01.2022 Were so excited to meet some new friends during our mid-year intake! We still have some limited spots available in our Red Tribe and Yellow Tribe rooms! Get in contact if you want to snap them up!
12.01.2022 What a lovely day to welcome Spring! Our Kindergarten group have been discussing the change of weather over the last week. With some assistance from our Early Childhood Teacher, this conversation was documented before the children explored what Spring means through the creative arts.
12.01.2022 It's getting close to Halloween! May you be has happy as this little pumpkin today.
12.01.2022 Our approach encompasses a way of being with children and toddlers that nurtures their whole being, and appreciates the processes that children progress through to become their authentic selves. Respect for the child is paramount to this approach.
12.01.2022 Passion is lifted from the Earth itself by the muddy hands of the young; it travels along grass-stained sleeves to the heart. If we are going to save environmentalism and the environment, we must also save an endangered indicator species: the child in nature. - Richard Louv
12.01.2022 Its Early Childhood Educators Day today! We celebrated the hard work and dedication of our amazing team. Thank you to everybody who has helped us celebrate the day through kind words and delicious treats! We loved reading all of the lovely messages that uplifted us throughout the day.

11.01.2022 It's mulberry season again! Look at the harvest we collected from our miniature tree this morning. We are excited to check back tomorrow to see if more have ripened.
11.01.2022 Mark making in the early years is an important step towards learning how to write. Mark making in the early years is used by children as a form of communication, a way to send messages, and a means to construct recognisable symbols. It is one way that children begin to develop the pre-literacy skills that will be required once they begin school.
11.01.2022 Someones played an April Fools joke on us today..

10.01.2022 Its ANZAC day tomorrow. Here are some ways that we paid our respects with the children this week. Participation in experiences like these promote conversations that allow the children to learn about the history of Australia.
10.01.2022 Today during Spanish, the Kindergarten children embarked on a creative still life painting project to learn the names of different farm animals. The opportunity to paint a still life helps a child learn how to study closely and paint what they see and think. Painting is a tool for children to show you what they think and how they can communicate their own ideas about the object. Furthermore, still life painting helps children challenge their understanding and ability to look at the finer details of everyday objects in their environment. - Miss Alejandra (Adeona Mitcheltons Spanish Teacher)
09.01.2022 A lot of our families live in the surrounding streets of Mitchelton. Many families walk or ride bikes to the centre and this is a great opportunity for families to get out and get active! Take a look at our new bike and pram garage! The finishing touches will be added in the next week. Feel free to park your bikes and prams here for the day so that you and your family can participate in some active travel to the centre.

07.01.2022 Have you been upstairs to our Parents Retreat? Settling your child into care can be an emotional experience for some. We encourage all families to come and share a tea or coffee and some biscuits with the team to relax and unwind before getting on with your day.
07.01.2022 We sell Adeona shirts that families can purchase for their children to wear. This year we have had more interest in the shirts than ever! The children like to call these shirts their Teacher Shirts as they have the same logo as our Educators uniforms. This has been particularly special for our Kindergarten children who, as the older children within our service, take on a leadership role and show responsibility for taking care of their peers and environment.
07.01.2022 Lots of conversations this afternoon as we unpacked our new resource order. Were so excited to have some more time to explore tomorrow!

03.01.2022 Earlier in the term, we were excited to learn that we had been awarded a Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant. Adeona Mitchelton is one of 1,609 primary schools and early learning centres throughout Australia receiving a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant to help grow our next generation of environmental champions. The grants are being funded with a 10c contribution from each sale of the Woolworths Bag for Good at full price, which was launched in 2018 when Woolworths went single...-use plastic bag free.
