03.01.2022 I can't tell you how many times I have heard parents of children with ADHD say "I've tried them but visuals don't help my children." But did you know that children need to be TAUGHT how to use visual supports? That ability doesn't come naturally! Children with ADHD find it extremely hard to resist distraction and once they are distracted, often find it impossible to re-engage in a task. This is due to several reasons, one of which is that they often have working memory defic...its, which impact on their re-engagement. That's one reason why visuals are fantastic for children with ADHD. They act as a visual working memory aid. BUT! They need to be taught to use them!
