22.01.2022 Warming up and Cooling down!! You might be eager to leap into your exercise routine and get on with the day but don't just dive in. Starting a workout with "cold" muscles can lead to injury. It's important to start each workout with a warm-up to help prepare the muscles, connective tissue and joints and end with a cool-down this goes for true beginners, seasoned pros, and everyone in between. Warm-up:... Warming up pumps nutrient-rich, oxygenated blood to your muscles as it speeds up your heart rate and breathing. A good warm-up should last five to 10 minutes and work all major muscle groups. For best results, start slowly, then pick up the pace. Many warm-up routines focus on cardio and range-of-motion exercises specific to your session. In weightlifting this might be warming up with a stick and then an empty bar for a few sets before you put any weights on. Are you Cooling-down? After your workout, it's best to spend 10 minutes cooling down through a sequence of slow movements. An example would be putting the row dampener down to 1 and rowing slowly for 5 mins, or cycling on the assault bike very EASY for 5 mins. This helps prevent muscle cramps and dizziness while gradually slowing your breathing and heart rate. An effective cool-down also incorporates stretching exercises to relax and lengthen muscles throughout your body and improve your range of motion. To get the most out of these exercises, hold each stretch for 30-90 seconds. The longer you can hold a stretch, the better for improving your flexibility. As with the warm-up, it's best to flow from one stretch to the next without rests in between. Start by stretching the lower body and work your way up to upper body stretches ( pecs, shoulders, wrists, forearms etc ) - increasing ROM ( range of motion ) from cooling down properly can lead to reduced niggles and injuries, especially in the shoulders if youve just done 100 pull-ups in a workout! Happy training! Adi

16.01.2022 Its always great when 2 worlds collide! This time - Weightlifting and Strongman Snippet from the other week helping out one of the top in his sport @coco_strongman with his overheads, getting him to adjust dip position, use his legs on jerk drives, tapping in on speed strength ( hes already got immense absolute strength ) and getting a feel for Timing Technique is everything in both sports along with efficiency. ~ Excited to see what he can lift with him improving o...n that front rack position also Thanks for the kind words Coco! Posted @withrepost @coco_strongman Its no secret that I use minimal leg drive on overheads. . What you may not know is this isnt by choice, I have tried numerous times to work on this however the connection just isnt there (the old powerbuilder in me) . This is why I have decided to do things a little differently leading up to ASM and Ive enlisted the help of @adibarbie an exceptional Weightlifter and Coach so we can work on my pressing biomechanics. . 13.01.2022 CJs today Not often the jerk feels easier than the clean The session started painfully slowww, I was in two minds whether to scratch it and I rarely have those thoughts - the body was not co-operating, the legs felt tired and the clean felt HeAvY at low % . But reality is you cant feel good everyday, sometimes great sessions come from crap beginnings Happy I persevered and got some quality lifts in for today.

11.01.2022 Price increase as of November 1st 2020. Hey guys, as most of you know I’ve been running a massage and PT business out of Raw Iron on the goldcoast for the last 4 years since moving up from Sydney. I’ve always prided myself on being able to offer Massage Therapy and PT sessions at a below market price rate, however due to ongoing costs and after consideration I am increasing all Massage and Personal Training rates by $10 as of 1/11/2020.... All appointments booked in until then will remain at the listed price of $70 P/H. I feel the rate is fair for my experience and what I can offer and I’m still able to keep it WAY below market price for you all. Thankyou for you’re ongoing support Adi

09.01.2022 Half marathon run done . . Last week I asked @nicholasgwhite if he fancied running a half marathon with me, with no prior run training for it other than our CrossFit workouts! 09.01.2022 Only a few weeks left until the end of the year! What goals did you have this year? Did you achieve all of them or some of them?... I can honestly say I achieved a few of my goals set for 2019 and failed a few too. 1) Qualify for Wodapalooza 2) Win another medal at Nationals 3) Get HELP with swimming and consistently swim ( hired a coach - money well spent ) 4) Grow my business 5) Qualify for a Sanctionals 6) Improve on my open score of 36th in 2018 A bit of a mixed bag! Am proud of the work Ive put in this year? You betcha!! Unfortunately hard work doesnt always show or pay off at the time you want- but it does INCREASE your chance for success so ... Am I going to quit on my goals? No. NEVER listen to those who put doubt in your head - or those who talk negatively about you or your goals, surround yourself with optimism and the right kind of people. Something I live by is this quote: Never let success go to your head; Never let failure get to your heart . ~ Dont stop until youre proud ~ Happy training! Adi : AWF

09.01.2022 Just a little Monday reminder!! Get your food on track, dont waste hours working out for slow or zero gains! I have used Amie at Target Nutrition since I moved to the Goldcoast in 2016 and highly recommend ... Happy training! Adi

07.01.2022 Great article from Weightlifting coach Greg Everett , talking about the mental element in weightlifting and some tips how to beat it https://www.catalystathletics.com//Beating-Mental-Blocks-/

06.01.2022 Motivation and Training A few ideas to beat that winter slump if youre struggling with motivation ; 1) make sure youre having enough sleep ( yes close to 8 hours ) sort your nutrition out too! ... 2) Be accountable. You will not always be % motivated every single day to train. Its the discipline of sticking to a schedule that will keep you accountable. Make 3 days of training the norm to start with and STICK TO IT. Hire a Personal Trainer to set you on the right path if needed. Then you can increase to 4 days , 5 days etc.. after building that consistency. Dont set yourself up for failure by unrealistically committing to more than you can do. 3) Dont worry about what others are doing. Do your thing, if yoga makes you happy do yoga. If running is your thing, run. If youre constantly run down and injured, have a think about why you are doing what youre doing and how you can make changes to reduce the risk of injury. Do you sit 8 hours a day, do ZERO mobility and come 5:30pm smash yourself at training, jump in the car and go home without an after thought? Chances are, tomorrow morning you will feel like youve been hit by a bus 4) Have a plan. Whats your goal? If you say you have no goal ~ youre lying. Even if your goal is to train today ( Tuesday ) that is a goal. Not everyone wants to be pro athletes, some want to train like them, others just enjoy the endorphins of training, feeling happy and healthy and hanging out with the community. 5) Grab a friend. A friend can help with accountability, you can help each other! Share the pain, laugh at each other Drag that friend into horrendous workouts The challenge of finishing is the best part. 6) Sign up for a comp. Put yourself out there. Test your hard work. Never be afraid to fail ~ be more afraid of never trying. : Will Steele Photography - IG: @willsteele_

04.01.2022 Hows this for a bit of Monday motivation ... Anything is possible Eliud Kipchoge ... The first sub 2 hour marathon 1:59:40 Mad respect for Eluids persistence, sacrifice and hard work to keep going after his dream and we must respect the capabilities of the human body and mind ~ an incredible achievement! Training of any kind is a marathon not a sprint, years of preparation, success and failure and not giving up! We all want to be good at whatever we train but we must also be patient and respect the process and the hours of training that needs to be put in too! Check out those splits!
