22.01.2022 TOP TIP TUESDAY: THE RUN DOWN ON GST! How much do you know about GST? GST (goods and services tax) is a broad-based tax of 10% on most goods, services and other items sold or consumed in Australia.... Generally, businesses and other organisations registered for GST will: Include GST in the price of sales to their customers Claim credits for the GST included in the price of their business purchases. So, while GST is paid at each step in the supply chain, businesses do not actually bear the economic cost of the tax. The cost of GST is borne by the final consumer, who can't claim GST credits. While businesses don't bear the economic cost of GST, they collect it. As a GST registered business, you'll need to put aside the GST you have collected so it can be paid when due. For more information on GST check out the ATO website here: https://www.ato.gov.au//Runn/Goods-and-services-tax-(GST)/

18.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE: Minimum Wage Increase and Modern Award Updates The Fair Work Commission has delivered its annual wage review. This decision will have a significant impact on all businesses and industries, and over 1.86 million employees who are paid at the national minimum wage or minimum modern award rates. With effect from the first full pay period commencing after 1 July 2015:... all modern award rates will increase by 2.5 per cent (with weekly wages rounded to the nearest $0.10); and the national minimum wage will increase by 2.5 per cent to $17.29 per hour (and $656.90 per week for a full-time employee), an increase of $0.42 per hour. As a reminder, the superannuation guarantee rate will remain at 9.5 per cent. Although the Commissions decision confirms the basic increase in minimum rates, the Commission has not yet released confirmation of the specific rates (including rounding and allowances) for each award. 07.01.2022 IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO BEFORE THIS END OF FINANCIAL YEAR! Staff Bonus/Commissions If possible, you can make sure they are paid up before 30 June, this will allow for tax deductions in your business. Expenses Pay, where possible, any business expenses before 30 June, rather than leaving them to July. Of course, your cash flow circumstances must be considered first.... Debtors/Outstanding Client Invoices Your Bookkeeper will have a look at your debtors prior to preparing the BAS for June 2015 and end of year processes, to ensure that you write off any bad debts. Look out for a list of your Current Debtors and advise your Bookkeeper of any invoices that you believe you will not be able to recover. These will then be written off in MYOB/Xero as bad debts, or alternatively, we will take further action to recover the funds, where possible. Discuss this with your Bookkeeper during the next session. If you have any questions, or need any further assistance, please feel free to give us a call on 9240 7276!

06.01.2022 IMPORTANT THINGS TO DO BEFORE THIS END OF FINANCIAL YEAR! Stock Take If you hold stock, then it would be a great idea to do a stock take on or about the 30 June 2015. Have the stock take list and cost prices list noted separately for your Bookkeeper/Accountant in readiness for the inclusion in your tax return. Staff Superannuation Is not actually due until 28th July 2015, but in some cases you may be able to pay it before the 26th-30th June 2015, so that you can claim th...e expense in this financial year. Keep in mind though that the superannuation fund will need to have received and processed your payment before 30 June. Capital Gains If you can, in some cases it may be more beneficial to defer the realisation of a capital gain until after 30 June, but if you have Capital Losses, you may want to take action in this financial year. Keep this in mind and perhaps speak with your Accountant. If you have any questions, or need any further assistance, please feel free to give us a call on 9240 7276!
