20.01.2022 @jstnrdz with a very fast Deadlift PB @ 110kg last night and his previous best was 90kg! He came to us >5 weeks ago after seeing @pace_physio of @pbphysio about back and shoulder pain from deadlifting and benching so we've been working on his technique and more importantly, confidence in his movement. 13.01.2022 Erica delivering the goods and leading from the front with this mega strong 80kg bench press under the watchful eye of @coachmanmattias . Reposted from @ericakoo_ (@get_regrann) - 10.10.19 80kg competition single at under 57kg body weight. @_poppinfresh for the thumbs up and good vibes too.... - Im stubborn. Many times to my detriment. I find it difficult to quit and I tend to push harder when things get tougher, which isnt always great. Knowing when to rest, or stop, or pull back is just as important as being able to push through discomfort and pain. Anything on the extremes for a long time is not healthy or conducive to progress. You know the person who would continue too push hard before comp or an important event? Yeah that used to be me, and in many aspects of my life and Im still working on this. To hold back when needed, and that going hard all the time is not ideal. - However one thing Im ok with being stubborn about is waiting to get stronger without modifying stance, width, arch, adding equipment to my lifts. I told @coachmanmattias when I first signed up that until I hit certain milestones, I wasnt willing to change any of my deadlifts, squats or bench if it was only for the purpose of increasing my lifts, than to fix technique issues. What I advocate for my clients is good enough for me. See more

13.01.2022 Staleness: Although the principle of specificity ranks extremely high on the totem pole of training principles there is also another training principle that is probably just right under it and that principle is "Variation". In a nutshell, the body becomes stale to a repeated stimulus and the more you give the body that same stimulus the less it responds to it. Sometimes to the point that after doing an insane amount of volume the body will respond and improve by a proport...ionately little amount. By varying the stimulus enough but not straying too far you keep the stimulus fresh for the body and you prevent plateaus. #thesportperformancecoach #deadlift #deadlifts #adonisathletics #wherethestrongbelong #trainingprinciples #trainingprinciple #variation #specificity #squat #squats #benchpress #strongman #strengthsport #strongwoman #weightlifting #bodybuilding #strengthtraining #adaptation #sportscience #exercisescience #performancecoach #strengthcoach

12.01.2022 "How much ya bench?", the question every bro asks another bro in and out the gym. Following on from the last 2 posts about deadlift and squat, here are the top 3 go-to bench press variation exercises that can help you smash through plateaus. 1 Long Pause Pressing: For those who compete in powerlifting you know that you have to pause on the chest before the ref tells you to press. Well if you have issues coming off the chest then long pauses on the chest can help build... strength there. I'm talking about a PROPER 3 count pause. If your weak point is not on the chest then it doesn't have to be on the chest, it can be at any point you feel there is weakness. 2 Feet Up Pressing: I have come across some findings that show taking the feet out causes more pec activation and that makes sense - less help from the legs means other muscles have to work harder to move the bar. Feet up pressing is excellent for learning how to stay tight in the torso and really driving hard with the arms by taking the legs out of the equation. 3 Tempo Pressing: Mainly on the eccentric portion (stick with a 3 or 4 count in general) but both can help in greasing the groove and increasing time under tension which is a way to increase the work done per set and therefore the overall volume of work. Surprisingly effective at improving the bench press even though you have to reduce weight to do it properly. An honourable mention to overhead pressing - it's probably not done enough and can be very effective at improving bench press performance, specially with driving off the chest. What is your favourite that you have found works for you time and time again? #powerlifter #powerlifting #girlswholift #adonisathletics #strongman #powerlift #sbd #strong #strengthcoach #weightlifting #weightlifter #wherethestrongbelong #strongwoman #thesportperformancecoach #strengthsports #strengthsport #performancecoach #benchpress #howmuchyabench #tempobench #feetupbench #overheadpress #militarypress #pressing #thesportperformancecoach #adonisathletics See more

11.01.2022 Individual athlete recaps coming soon. But for now I only have 1 thing to say from the 8 Athletes we sent over to nationals all 8 finished on the podium. I am beyond proud of their efforts and alongside the fellow Adonis Team we showed why Adonis Athletics is #1. #wherethestrongbelong #adonisathletics #adonisathleticscastlehill

11.01.2022 Overuse: Doing the same movement in the same way with the same sort of intensities over and over can lead to overuse injuries. This is specially true for more experienced lifters because typically lifters with more experience need to do more volume and if we were to stick to only the competition lift without introducing any variation or accessory work there could be too much load given to the tissues and the system as a whole too often.... This could lead to different types of injuries. If instead of just deadlifting to get better at deadlifts we started to introduce, say, goodmornings in the program we would then have to reduce the weight on the bar which in of itself reduces the regularity of heavy loading and it also changes the movement pattern slightly. We get to take the hips through a larger range of motion. This can even allow us to build up the spine erectors and hip extensors even more. This is another reason why doing the lift itself all the time isn't always the correct approach. Any thoughts or suggestions? #thesportformancecoach #adonisathletics #wherethestrongbelong #powerlifting #specifcity #sportscience #trainingprinciple #exercisescience #overuse #injury #overuseinjury #goodmorning #squat #deadlift #benchpress #variation #trainingintensity #performancecoach #strengthcoach See more

09.01.2022 Every training program will eventually lead to a place where you have to back off a little so the body can recover from an accumulation of fatigue. You can't keep training week after week, month after month at the same ever-increasing volume and intensity. The usual go-to for deload weeks is every 4th week...which isn't really wrong by the way. It seems to be that for a majority of people who do a well thought-out program (specially strength focused blocks) this seems t...o be about the right mark. However, it doesn't always land on the 4th week for some people. Those examples include: Females: they generally recover better/faster and can stretch out a block for longer Lighter Weight/Newer Lifters: they tend to not generate as much relative fatigue when training so can drag out a block for longer Bench Press-Only Lifters: Or any other lifter who tends to focus on just one lift for whatever reason. Less overall exposure of stress for the body, which means it recovers faster and can drag out a block for longer Those are just some examples of cases where a deload every 4th week may not be the best bet. What you want to ideally do is wait until your body is showing signs of over-reaching more and more consistently and things are starting to feel like they are becoming grindy or may stall in a week or so. That's when it's time to bring that deload week around. With that being said though, if your program is so hard that 2 weeks in you already feel like a deload is needed then you have over-exposed the body to too much stress too early. You need to back off with the aggression in your programming. How often do you find your deload weeks come around? #adonisathletics #wherethestrongbelong #weightlifting #girlswholift #powerlifting #weightlifter #powerlifter #sbd #strengthsports #thesportperformancecoach #strongman #powerlift #strengthsport #strong #strengthcoach #performancecoach #strongwoman #deload #recover #recovery #deloadweek #programming #strengthblock See more

08.01.2022 Overreaching isn't a bad thing but if you leave it unchecked it can lead to problems and ultimately it's going to force you to take a significant time off training to return the body back to baseline. You can prevent it from reaching there by making sure you employ good recovery tactics throughout training weeks, have good programming design and looking out for signs of overreaching getting louder and louder. In the infographics the most common signs of overreaching are... listed. Always keep an eye out for them and measure them. You should have a subjective way to measure recovery and give yourself a score. This score needs to be looked at as a running weekly and monthly average. This way you will know what is normal and just an off day and what is going towards a trend. If you know these numbers then you can minimise interruptions to your training and maximise the results you get from the time you put in. Also, most of us will find that 1-2 signs are usually the first thing that pops up for our bodies when we are reaching that point. What are your first telling signs that tell you it's time to back off training a little? 07.01.2022 #Repost because it's an oldie but a goodie and because comps are around the corner again. Most often the people who win powerlifting and weightlifting comps are the ones that make the most number of successful attempts. That means opening with a weight you can do on the day not the weight you wish you could do. Things like environment, nerves, weight cutting, rushed warmups and so on are all going to impact your performance.... Adjust your expectations or youre going to have a hard day in the office. Not only will you get your butt kicked but most of the kicks are going to be coming from your own leg...ie unforced errors and unrealistic attempt selection. Do what you can not what you want and dont try to read the future by thinking what other lifters are going to lift. Nice way to have the crappiest time ever. Have fun guys it's just lifting!

07.01.2022 Someone who loves to get on stage and perform needs to be approached and dealt with much different to someone who gets anxious just thinking about going to the gym. 04.01.2022 First bit of info for you on the 2021 Adonis Athletics Strongman Series. We decided it's time to shake things up a little so this year we are going to do a strongman series. Every event builds onto the next one, the points you get in the first comp adds to the subsequent ones and so on and at the end of the year the person with the most points accumulated is the winner. This gives participants a year long focus and something to train for, it also means that you can have... a bad day at one comp but make up for it at another - you don't necessarily have to win every comp to win the series...and that's what ultimately matters. Stand by for more info on weight classes as well as events for the first one on 7th of March. This series is mainly aimed at newcomer up to a high intermediate level. Pandemic or not we are going to keep moving forward and pushing the boundaries as much as we can to bring you guys what you love most - the wonderful sport of Strongman.
