25.01.2022 THE ADRA BELMONT COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY WILL BE OPEN THIS TUESDAY FOR EMERGENCY FOOD RELIEF * (Tuesday, May 19th @ 6 Paterson Rd, Kewdale) BYO SHOPPING BAGS! (Limited spare boxes available)... NOTE: Weve just had an abundance of watermelons come in (enough for everyone)! NOTE: We will look at reopening the ADRA Belmont Community Cafe once restrictions are raised and are able to have up to 100 people. Stay tuned. More info later. NEW OPENING TIME: * The centre will open 11:00am (to get your queued ticket) for a 11:30am start. We finish/close by 1:30pm. Those who arrive after 11:30am, will be put at the end of the queue. * Note: Besides our regular weekly fresh food supplies (fruit, veggies, bread, refrigerated/frozen foods), and long-life foods courtesy of Coles, Woolies via Secondbite & OzHarvest. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY (Covid-19) * The public will not be permitted to enter the centre on arrival. You will need to wait outside for your turn. There are seats provided for you to sit on. * Each person will receive a numbered raffle ticket. When your number is called out, you will enter and get a squirt of hand sanitiser, and disposable gloves. Upon completing your food pickup, you will dispose of your gloves in the bin on your way out. - NOTE - BEFORE YOU PLAN TO COME: * If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, PLEASE DO NOT COME! * Those who do come, PLEASE DO NOT shake hands or come close to anyone (1.5 to 2 metres apart from each person. 07.01.2022 RESPONDING TO BULLYING: Tips on how to respond and support your child if they are being bullied Monday 10th August / Weekly Tip This month on The Fathering Project we are bringing you a special series on bullying and cyber bullying to assist all fathers and parents develop their skills and knowledge to support their child if the situation ever occurs.... (1) Some tips if your child tells you they are being bullied * Listen to your child and react in a calm and supportive manner. It is important that your child feels confident to talk to you about problems. * Acknowledge that bullying is wrong, and you understand that he/she is upset by the bullying. * Talk about options. Ask your child what you could do to help and work out a plan of what he/or she could do to help make the situation better. * End with encouragement. Remind your child that the bullying is not his or her fault and that you will work together to make the situation better. (2) Some important tips for talking to your children about bullying * Stay calm and try not to get upset or angry. This is probably what the person bullying wants you to do. * Dont fight back. If you fight back you can make the situation worse, get hurt, or be blamed for starting the trouble. * Try standing up for yourself in a positive way if you feel you are able to. * Try to act in a way that ignores the bullying by calmly turning and walking away. * Walk away from the situation as quickly as possible. * Tell a trusted adult what has happened straight away. 03.01.2022 MAKING LIFE CHOICES TO REDUCE STRESS, ANXIETY & DEPRESSION SURVIVING & THRIVING THROUGH COVID-19 (By Robert Stankovic) FOOD FEEDS YOUR MOOD (Eat Nutritiously) Quotable Quotes: Your state of mind might be dependent upon your state of gut. John Cryan... DID YOU KNOW (as a matter of fact)? Did you know that the largest part of your body is not your skin nor your muscles? Its your gut! In fact, you have trillions of bacteria living in your gut (gastrointestinal tract), which is more than all the cells of your entire body. Medical science is discovering that what you eat directly affects your moods and how you feel. I know personally that when I eat foods that are highly processed and high in fat, I feel sluggish, lack energy, and feel down. But when I eat foods that are alive, fresh, plant-based, and rich with a variety of vibrant colours (i.e. Greek-style Mediterranean salads YUM!), I feel more energetic, motivated, and in a good mood. The health and happiness of your gut bacteria affect the health and happiness of your Limbo (Limbic system - your feeling-brain). You can keep these good gut bacteria cheering by feeding them well and you can do so by feeding them fibre, which is found only in plant foods (another fact: meats and animal products do not have any fibre, nor is it adequately nutritious for your body and your gut). Make fibre your friend. The take-away message is Food feeds your mood. What you eat is what youll feel. I encourage you to feel better about yourself and life. So, choose and eat more living foods.
