I think this is the 2nd time Ive posted this piece on FB. Its called "Woman Au Naturale" - an early 00s addition to my "Boxed Nude" series - acrylic on hardboard, 75cm x 90cm framed in honey coloured raw timber with a gold slip.

24.01.2022 Its FRIDAY 21st December 2018. NUDE FRIDAY again - and the final Nude Friday of the year for Adrian Gilbert Art Studio/Gallery. This weekend will also be the last weekend in 2018 that we open our doors - and next years opening arrangements are uncertain. So if youve been putting off your visit to our studio/gallery - or if you want to buy something truly special for a loved one, this weekend is the time to do it! I also need to warn my patrons that this Sunday, I will be ...collecting family from the airport in the morning - so I probably wont be able to open the studio/gallery till lunch time or a bit later - but please remember, we can always open by appointment. Both the painting and the title derive from an interview I heard with Winton Marsalis where he described playing Jazz as, "like catching a snake"!

21.01.2022 I have a bad habit of becoming indecisive about how to finish things. Not always - and less so these days than in the past - but it means I have quite a lot of ...old works hanging around waiting for me make decisions about them - and right now Im working at finishing a few. This is a photo of my studio at the moment. The painting in front and the biggest one right at the back are pieces I began 25years ago. The biggish one in the middle I began 9 years ago. Indeed, Ill be in Sydney this morning - so I wont be able to open Adrian Gilbert Art Studio/Gallery until I get home - about lunch time I expect. This weekend is the last weekend we will be open this year - and next years opening arrangements are uncertain at present. However, we will always ...open by appointment. So, being Abstract or Miscellaneous Sunday (when I post anything which is neither nude nor landscape) todays offering is from another era which reflects the seaside environment I was living in at the time. Its called "Colour Cairn" (circa 1990) acrylic paint on hardboard - approx 50cm x 90cm plus frame width.

So heres a life sketch I pushed "too far" (which is what happens if we have more time to sketch a pose than we need and we keep trying to improve it) but which took on a life of its own because I pushed it too far. I find such results interesting.

So, todays Forest or Landscape feature piece is a small (A4) relatively recent piece, sold last year. Redolent of the Central Tablelands on this mountain range we call The Great Dividing Range, this pen & ink sketch is actually one of many compositions done in my studio in the continuing pursuit of creative freedom. The challenge lies within moment to moment decisions one makes to go this way or that and end up with something meaningful, interesting or attractive.

People who are taking note of my weekly posts advertising Adrian Gilbert Art Studio /Gallery should now be aware that Ive changed my routine. I now post images of nudes on Wednesdays, Forest or Landscape works on Thursdays and Abstract or Miscellaneous works on Fridays. So, for this 8th Abstract & Miscellaneous Friday Im featuring a piece from 2005/6. A portrait of Jeff Plummer in the Kedumba Gallery at Blue Mountains Grammar School. Back then, Jeff was the gallery director and custodian of the Kedumba Drawing Award. He was also the most famous person I knew in the arts - so I hoped that fact might help me get the work hung in the Archibald . He suggested it would probably hinder my chances - but I decided he was a good subject anyhow. In the end, he was right. Jeff had a reputation for being extremely discerning about whos work was hung in the Kedumba gallery - so, because I didnt like my chances of ever getting invited to submit something for the Kedumba Award - I had this idea of seating him within an imaginary exhibition of my own work in the gallery - which is what Ive done. Its an acrylic on canvas triptych - 180cm x 240cm. I havent seen Jeff for a couple of years - I hope hes OK! I call this piece, "My Show with Jeff" (Portrait of Jeff Plummer) - and by the way, I did eventually get an invite to submit something for the Kedumba Award - and sold it too! Thank you Jeff!

Its called "Left Behind by the Tide" - a mid 90s piece; the title reflecting feelings that, such concepts of beauty were no longer being encouraged - but of course, that is no reason not to pursue them. The tide always returns!

In my efforts to vary the imagery I post, Ive decided this week to put up a recently rediscovered life drawing I did 25 years ago. Im actually in the process of turning her into a painting of "Echo" (Narcissuss would-be lover) - and though I really like the sketch, Im fearful I wont like the painting - so, you may never see her again. It is a brushed acrylic sketch on gesso paper - 75cm x 115cm

I think this is only the 2nd time Ive posted this piece on FB. Its called "The Chair" - and its an original pen & ink life sketch I coloured in later. A particularly nice one I think! Its A3 size - so matted, mounted and framed under glass would see it finish around 50cm x 60cm
