25.01.2022 Wonderful Wanaka this time last year - so glad that NZ will be accessible in the near future. This photo was taken while flattening my drone batteries before flying home the next day. 5 shot pano taken with M2P ISO 100, f5.6 1/240 s

25.01.2022 Exciting - last weekend we went out and about to the local wetlands to take our dog for a walk and to photograph birds. Well these "snapshots" are all I managed to get but its the first time we had seen a Red Belly Black - no need to explain the name, it is a pretty poisonous snake, fortunately it was below the boardwalk so we were in no real danger. The butterflies were everywhere so that photo is for some juxt opposition - enjoy.

23.01.2022 Dawn captures of this years SWELL Sculpture Festival at Currumbin beach. What a setting for the event, got to be one of my favourite beaches on the coast. Well done to all the artists, some stunning work.

22.01.2022 Hang onto your tripod - some flow from a Currumbin Alley dawn shoot last week. Another 4 am start to get there for first light so I was falling asleep into my coffee in the afternoon. Does anyone else have a restless sleep before a morning shoot? This is what 30 % low cloud looks like, too much on the horizon for the sun to peek through which was a shame as it would have been a killer sunrise if it had. The other reason for the trip was to admire and photograph the artwork in the Swell Sculpture exhibition which did not disappoint , you can see some of them on the beach - Check out my intsgram account for posts from the #SWELLsculpture2020

21.01.2022 What a year... to forget . Some highlights for me from my lens as opportunities to shoot events were scarce this year. These photos from a high school dance concert - these young people and teachers are so talented, I miss the show as I have my eye to the viewfinder and have to anticipate and follow the action. For other togs, these concerts are tricky, you need a fast tele lens and have to shoot wide open (f2.8) as the lighting is low. The lighting is also very variable so I shoot shutter priority with auto ISO, and then set -1/3 EV as sometimes the spotlights over expose some of the dancers. With these settings the majority of shots are at 200th - 500th second (as high as I could go even on a monopod)@ 3200 - 6400 ISO. Saving up for the #canonaustralia EOS R5 which has better low light performance.

21.01.2022 Week 11 COVID19 lockdown - These shots of the sky have been taken over the last month - typical - its been one of the nicest April / May seasons for a long time and we were stuck at home, however we count our blessings to have a home and that we have a great view from our verandah. Thankfully lockdown is lifting so we are starting to go out and about - some photos from our first outing to follow.

20.01.2022 Manly Harbour is one of the gems in Brisbane and great for reflections if the wind is light. Another early start as I like to drive before first light which is half an hour before sunrise - add 1/2 to 3/4 hour travel time and now you know why I prefer sunsets . I have recently found some cloud predicting apps which are super helpful for sunrise as you have no idea what the sky is going to produce. The cloud apps showed mid and high level cloud - unfortunately thick mid lev...el clouds so no real light came through for dawn. I make the most of the environment when it does not work out 100% so tested a technique this shoot and enjoyed watching the light change as the clouds moved through, some super light rays appeared later on. At least I know the cloud apps I use agree and are working well. Got some great pano’s when the land breeze settled down - this series showing the light changing and some different aspect ratios, enjoy See more

17.01.2022 Photo shoot with a difference, I just love dogs and shot this beautiful natured Collie cross on the beach. I would be happy doing dog shoots only going forward, they are so cooperative

16.01.2022 2018 -New Year, New Facebook page, New challenges, New learning. What a start with shooting Rohan and Ellas wedding. Congratulations to you, what a wonderful wedding it was.

13.01.2022 Photographing birthday celebrations is becoming a regular event and I enjoy every event through my viewfinder. Here are photos from my fourth shoot request - one of our dear friends milestone birthday. Happy Birthday Sue

12.01.2022 Beautiful Brisbane at dawn

11.01.2022 SWIPE RIGHT - Gum boots on and get the shot. I did forewarn you that I would be posting plenty of #thatwanakatree, this was the same day as the milky way shot. Why is this tree so popular? So here we go a day by day set of trees in my posts - promise it will be different each time. _______________________________________ Canon 5DIV, EF 24-70L 13 Sec f14... 100 Lr edit _______________________________________ #canonaustralia #raw_australia_nz #discover_newzealand #destinationnewzealand #best_newzealand_photos #lifeofnewzealand #landscapes_nz #water_perfection #destination_nz #ig.newzealand #exploringnewzealand #amazingausnz #newzealand #newzealandguide #newzealandtourism #lifeofnewzealand #tourism_nz #superphoto_longexposure #natgeotravel #travelnz #nz #water_perfection #water_brilliance @landscapephotomag #master_gallery #earth_shots #discoverearth #splendid_earth @ Wanaka, New Zealand See more

08.01.2022 Week 3 COVID19 lockdown and no portrait work for a while now, & definitely no landscapes which really sucks as there have been some cracking sunrises and sunsets and the weather is stunning at the moment - so our back yard visitors will have to do. This beautiful fella posed for me, then gave me the stink eye and flew off because he thought I was getting too close, the lorikeets dont seem to care about social distancing more on that to follow.

07.01.2022 Testing the Skylum software versus Adobe Lr - can you pick which is which? Taken with the Mavic 2 Pro

06.01.2022 When firefighters are standing watching, paramedics are filming with phones, photographers are doing nothing to help other than taking photos and a man is running around ON FIRE, you know it has to be a #jasinbolandstuntexperience put on for us at the #blurfestival. For those who have not heard of Jasin (featured in the first photo coordinating the experience), you have seen his work, just look at a box office movie poster and there is a fair chance he is the photographer behind the work. Enjoy.

04.01.2022 That time of year again where I get my best 9 photos for the year on Instagram - funny, this year came from one photo shoot !!

01.01.2022 Dawn on Brisbane River and story of a FRUSTRATING photo shoot. ( and learnings from it). I meticulously planned this shoot, I really need a panorama of the city with killer reflections for clients. WIND -Gentle NNE, TIDE - High in city at dawn so river not flowing, CLOUDS for ambiance, RAIN -unlikely ,NODAL RAIL measurements for 5D , ALARM set 04:00, woke up - checked BOM - zero rain and off we go. PROBLEMS: Got to the river at 04:30. Got to the spot 04:45 -1) NO REFLE...CTIONS. the wind was gentle but blowing down the river, the river was lumpy and the reflections were non existent. 2) The clouds were too thick for any good colour. 3) after levelling the nodal rail, the tree I had positioned myself under for better composition was dripping on the lens. I moved and continued with the shoot as I was there. 4) I set the camera to BULB mode for longer exposure and took a shot. The Bulb timer did not expire ???? It was set as I pushed the remote and the shutter did not close. 5) As it started to lighten up I installed my NISI 3 SGND, only to find I could slide it down far enough because the rail was under the holder at my focal length. And so it went One thing I have learned with landscape is dont leave too early. This shot was as the sun rose to illuminate the city. I was not that happy with the resultant panos but there were some tale aways for my shoot diary. LEARNINGS: 1)Should have looked at my cloud predictor the night before. 2)Should have taken wind direction into account and shoot INTO the wind, the opposite bank would have still water. 3)Get a variable mount nodal rail. On a positive note it was a beautiful morning and great to chat to all the city dwellers doing their morning exercise. I also rekindled my fondness of using my pano rail system again, super resolution from 10 image captures with very little edge to edge loss. Oh well, we have to have the bad shoots to have the really good ones.
