24.01.2022 Is this a tongue tie? . Yes it is! Should you do something about it?... Yes you should ! If you have ongoing painful latching, a baby that is on and off fighting and fussing @ the breast, baby not gaining enough weight, Recurrent mastitis... See more

24.01.2022 Learning to breastfeed ? Start with calm baby, its easier to attach for baby & you, babys tongue will be down & forward - where it needs to be to attach well at the breast. .Get to know your babys feeding cues.... crying is a late feeding cue, your baby will attach better if you start to feed on his early feeding cues: turning head from side to side, sticking tongue out and licking lips.... .Hold your baby how it feels right for you, have yours clothes and babys clothes out of the way, have your babys tummy on your tummy or chest to chest, allow baby to lift and bob his head around its normal for baby to look for the breast. If youre in a semi reclined position its often easier for bay to find the breast. Whatever position you choose turn your babys whole body toward you, support baby behind neck & shoulders (try not to push on back of his head) and hold him at the level of your breasts. Hold baby firmly in close with his head tilted back a little... touch babys top lip with your nipple wait for his mouth to open wide with tongue forward over bottom lip, bring baby to the breast then .Make sure baby takes a big mouthful of breast, more on his chin side. His lips should spread to create a good seal. His chin should look like its jammed in to the breast & nose slightly free even a little head tilt. .When baby is feeding well, his jaws & possibly his face muscles & tips of ears will all move. He should have a rhythm of about 1 suck per second, with a slight pause when his chin is down. You may hear baby swallowing. .If it doesnt feel right, it probably isnt. Start again, its ok to ask for help, painful breastfeeding usually is an attachment issue. It should feel comfortable when your baby is feeding the right way. . . #breastfeeding #attachment #sorenipples #lactation #lactationconsultant #breastfeedinghelp

19.01.2022 Whilst the Hakaa pump is great for collecting the top off the other side while feeding and easing full breasts in the early weeks after having baby...... for some women this can create an over supply.... over supply has its own set of problems!! Gassy windy baby and mastitis SO do not express too much, just once or twice a day is enough so you can collect extra milk for Daddy to do a top up feed in the evening and or youve always got a stash of milk in the fridge. A wel...l alert term baby is in charge of your milk supply and they know exactly how much milk they need! 09.01.2022 Breast engorgement in the first few days after birth is preventable. Make sure baby feeds very frequently from birth and from both sides. If baby is sleepy or not attaching well then start hand expressing moving on to pump by late day 2
