20.01.2022 You might remember Dave from a video we uploaded earlier in the year, look at him now! Dave has Multiple Sclerosis and you may remember has developed his trademarked 3 pronged trident for combatting his condition. His trident involves 3 supervised exercise sessions every week: Group based hydrotherapy specifically for MS... NeuroFit group exercise focused on cardiovascular fitness and balance 1:1 Exercise Physiology at the ARC clinic gym focused on whole body strength training. (This is what you can see Dave working on in this video.) Like most of our clients, Dave has many functional goals such as improving his balance and stability, walking distance and standing endurance. Most importantly for Dave however, is slowing down the effects of MS and staying as fit and strong as possible. Staying motivated and committed to an exercise program whilst living with a chronic condition can be extremely challenging. Setting meaningful goals individualised to that person is incredibly important to help keep motivated. The first question Dave asked when he saw the Monster total gym was How heavy does it go?. The answer is 100kg! Since then Dave has set his sights on improving his strength week by week so he could eventually lift the full stack. Last week Dave achieved this goal by completing 6 repetitions of Lat Pulldown at 100kg thus becoming the first member of the ARC full stack club! Dave’s effort is a testament to what can be achieved with consistent hard work and dedication and a reminder to do away with any preconceived limits on what you think you can achieve!
20.01.2022 Our client's rehab programs all look very different and client goals can really vary from small tasks to larger long-term goals. Depending on their assessment, some clients can be fixed up with resolved symptoms in a couple of sessions, such as some dizzy clients, and some are clients who are with us for the long haul. Our long-term client, Deb, acquired her spinal cord injury in 2015. After the injury, Deb spent more than one year in hospital with multiple health complicatio...ns. She was given a very poor prognosis for making physical progress and she was discharged home requiring maximum help of carers to get in and out of bed. Deb started her rehab journey with ARC in March 2017 and has since then been attending 2-3 weekly physiotherapy sessions and additional strengthening sessions with a therapy assistant. Her motivation and hard work has been very inspiring to the people around her - and it has paid off! Deb no longer needs help from carers to get in and out of bed, she can stand and transfer independently with the use of her walker and she is even able to take a few steps with her walker now. Since November 2020, Deb is a frequent user of our new Lexo which helps her to increase her strength and endurance and enabled her to make some improvements to her walking. We wish you all the best Deb for your 2021 goals!

17.01.2022 It’s National Carers Week and we wanted to celebrate the people we see every day providing care and support to their family members and friends. We did a quick Q & A with one of our clients Ella and her carer mum Amanda to highlight the care and support we see on a daily basis. Q: Ella, on a day to day basis how does your carer typically support you? My carer is my mum, she helps with general function, transport, emotional supportplus everything a mum does A memorable experience when she went over and above for me is when she wheeled me cross country style across a park so I could have a picnic with friends! I’d like to celebrate this week that my carer makes the bad times more enjoyable with good food and a laugh

13.01.2022 Happy New Year from the team at ARC! We look forward to working with you this year.
13.01.2022 October 4th - 11th marks National Amputee Awareness Week. Some people lose a limb because of a traumatic accident, but an even greater number experience an amputation due to diabetes, vascular disease, cancer and infections. When a person with an amputated limb is fitted with an appropriate prosthesis, most are able to walk again. If a person cannot, it is usually due to an underlying medical condition or a prosthesis which does not fit them properly. In addition, many work,... participate in sport and lead a healthy and active lifestyle. Our team love treating clients who have had a limb amputation - check out Ceri, our physio working with her amputee clients in the community!
13.01.2022 We were thrilled to see our client Chan being one of the first to experience walking on the LEXO. Our CEO Melissa McConaghy is seen here on Studio 10 last week telling Chan’s story and showing his session on the LEXO. It was the first time he has experienced walking naturally since he had his workplace accident over a year ago and he said it felt amazing. Chan managed to achieve 300% more in stepping practice than he would in a standard rehab session with us which in only... the first trial of the LEXO is extremely positive. We are incorporating the LEXO into our intensive programs and existing services, it can benefit patients that have a variety of neurological conditions such as stroke, brain or spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, parkinson’s disease and cerebral palsy and is helpful for people both with walking goals and those who want to experience being upright and walking again. If you would like to book an appointment for the LEXO then please visit our website for more details: https://lnkd.in/geJgGu9

It has been an incredible year - some extreme lows but also many extreme highs. This is what we chose to celebrate on Saturday night. Onwards to 2021!

02.01.2022 Often in brain injury, the main limiting factor affecting mobility is not the physical symptoms. Cognitive impairments after a brain injury can affect attention, initiation and many other elements. Our physio's and OT's often do joint sessions with these complex clients to help drive the best outcomes. Check out Rowan who has achieved so much with this style of therapy. Well done Rowan!
