22.01.2022 It’s World Physiotherapy Day! This year’s timely theme is the role of physiotherapists in the treatment and management of people affected by COVID. COVID - and particularly lockdown - have a significant effect on people with pain including: Reduced access to treatment (if services are shut down during lockdown)... Reduced access to gym/exercise equipment Increased mood issues which can increase pain or reduce motivation for patients to treat their pain Did you know? A study in the British Journal of Pain showed that those experiencing pain are more negatively affected by lockdown conditions compared to pain-free individuals. Read more here http://ow.ly/kXfk50G3yVR Advance Healthcare’s Pain Management Program is tailored to the patient and includes pain physicians, psychology and physiotherapy. This multi-disciplinary approach is the gold-standard of evidence-based treatment of choice for complex chronic pain. We remain open during COVID for face-to-face and telehealth consultation Advance Healthcare is proud to celebrate the dedication of our team of 26 qualified physiotherapists, who continue to assist our patients in fulfilling their health goals through effective rehabilitation today and every day; particularly in the difficult periods of COVID and lockdowns. #worldphysiotherapyday #physiotherapy #physiotherapist #covid #lockdown #pain #chronicpain #research #healthcare

19.01.2022 To all our patients and referrers: What a few weeks it has been! We could like to provide you with a few updates regarding our services All clinics are continuing to operate largely as normal but with some changes in light of the COVID19 situation:... - telehealth available on the Physitrack platform for the majority of consultations (physiotherapy, psychology, medical, dietetics). Face to Face consultations are of course still available and the preferred method for all low-risk patients. - physiotherapy group programs have been modified to be 1:1 (either face to face or telehealth) - psychology group programs have been modified to be on telehealth - bulk billing continues to be available for physiotherapy, psychology and podiatry services (with GP Medicare care plan or mental health care plan) A variety of rebates from private health insurers, TAC, Worksafe, DVA and other third parties are available depending on the discipline and clinical condition. This is a rapidly evolving situation and things are changing on an almost daily basis, however our team at Advance Healthcare is making sure we have the best understanding possible to manage your healthcare needs. Importantly: we are open for business and expect to stay this way. We are accepting new referrals for pain management, pain medicine, physiotherapy, psychology, podiatry, and dietetics. 18.01.2022 There are clear challenges associated with the #socialdistancing and #isolation requirements of being in lockdown. We are apart from loved ones, experiencing a loss of freedom and many are struggling with a reduced income. This can lead people to experience feelings of #anxiety, #boredom, #frustration and #fear. This information sheet from the Australian Psychological Society outlines some useful strategies you can use at home to maintain your mental health during this #lock...down period. http://ow.ly/b0mI50FzsWx #AustralianPsychologicalSociety #mentalhealth #psychology #psychologist #anxiety #wellbeing #lockdown

18.01.2022 There is a recognition that people from all walks, in all circumstances, can struggle with some psychological fallout at this point in time. As such, we enjoyed reading The Hon. Julia Gillard’s address around remaking Australia’s mental health and suicide prevention systems, via her directorship at #BeyondBlue. Digital services should be seen not as a replacement for the traditional ones delivered by our extraordinary GPs and mental health professionals but an enhancement.... The true integration of face-to-face, telehealth and digital options would be a huge stride towards a system that sees the whole person, not just a collection of symptoms in need of a quick fix. We heartily recommend reading her full address, which reflects conversations we’ve had at Advance Healthcare around how we can best continue personalised care while ensuring we anticipate the needs of our #patients. It’s important for #healthcare providers to be dynamic during this time, continually adjusting the way we operate in order to effectively shape our services around our #community. http://ow.ly/2pAE50FYjFv #mentalhealth #suicideprevention #psychology #physiotherapy #telehealth #healthprovider #covid

16.01.2022 #funfact Tennis elbow rarely occurs in tennis players! The ironically named condition (also called common extensor origin tendinopathy or lateral epicondylitis) involves pain experienced on the outside of the elbow with activities such as gripping or lifting. Tennis elbow generally responds well to physiotherapy, so obtaining the correct diagnosis and treatment with a physiotherapist will get you back to doing the activities you love as quickly as possible ... 04.01.2022 A survey conducted by patient advocacy group Chronic Pain Australia has found 67 per cent of the respondents experienced a benefit from the pandemic pivot to telehealth. As pain management is our focus, we are pleased that this will prompt further formal evaluation of telehealth's effectiveness on chronic pain management outcomes. Telehealth was a top priority for Advance Healthcare even prior to 2020, because we recognised that it would rapidly evolve the healthcare service... offering over the next 5 years. Of course, COVID-19 caused us as it did with most health providers to pivot even more quickly. Whilst this was challenging, towards the end of 2020 and now into 2021, we are finding it has allowed us to provide a more flexible service and access patients in areas that we otherwise may have missed. It has been an adjustment for Advance and our valued patients, but the response has been overwhelmingly positive. This article reflects our experience, and we look forward to telehealth being an ongoing and important part of the services we offer. https://www.smh.com.au//the-silver-lining-for-chronic-pain #healthcare #painmanagement #telehealth #covid #chronicpain #pain Chronic Pain Australia

03.01.2022 We’ve noticed that we’re being exposed to a lot of media coverage focussing on people who are not following the COVID-safe strategies recommended by our health experts. The question is, how do you manage your negative reactions to these stories, your own emotions, and your feelings towards those not perceived as doing the right thing?
