24.01.2022 The full moon this month on the Gold Coast coincided with the bushfires in the hinterland that have been burning now for over a week. The resulting moon taking on a reddish orange hue.
23.01.2022 I was checking out a series of rock pools in Division 9 that I became aware of over the weekend. I grabbed a few snaps with a view to coming back when the lighting conditions are more favourable. However I came across a sight that was so familiar to my "previous" life in Belfast. An abandoned burnt out car which upon closer investigation I worked out to be a Chevy Camaro. I called into Mudgeeraba Police Station on the way home... they knew nothing about it so my good deed was done for the day.
22.01.2022 IS A SWANEE-BACK RIDE A THING?. I'd never seen one until yesterday. So I went back to Rosser Park today armed with Big Bertha rather than just an iPhone and caught said swanee-back rider in action. The cygnets are growing fast so don't leave it too long if you want to see them.
19.01.2022 I went for a drive to Natural Bridge on Sunday avo. I have realised that I have never seen the light in the cave like this before. I've only ever been there in the morning and usually on a wet or overcast day...I think we occasionally get some of those in Queensland if my memory serves me. It's still Division 9 don'tcha know.
19.01.2022 Instead of golf on Saturday morning I went to Coombabah Wetlands with the camera club members, our first gathering since CoVid. Birds were the target but I only saw kangaroos. The light was good so no point in wasting that gift.
18.01.2022 Wild weather on the Gold Coast at the start of our beach holiday. Plenty of work now for the council to clear debris from the beaches at Coolangatta/Greenmount
18.01.2022 On this ANZAC day morning I was pleased to see that almost all of my neighbours where on their driveways at 6am to remember in silence. I was reflecting on a poem that I learned at school back in Belfast. I showed it to my wife, an Australian, who had never seen it before. She was very moved and shocked by the very vivid description of life in the trenches. Dulce et Decorum Est... Wilfred Owen - 1893-1918 Bent double, like old beggars under sacks, Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge, Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs And towards our distant rest began to trudge. Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind; Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind. Gas! Gas! Quick, boys!An ecstasy of fumbling, Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time; But someone still was yelling out and stumbling And flound'ring like a man in fire or lime... Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light, As under a green sea, I saw him drowning. In all my dreams, before my helpless sight, He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning. If in some smothering dreams you too could pace Behind the wagon that we flung him in, And watch the white eyes writhing in his face, His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin; If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs, Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues, My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children ardent for some desperate glory, The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori. One of the most admired poets of World War I, Wilfred Owen is best known for his poems "Anthem for Doomed Youth" and "Dulce et Decorum Est." He was killed in France on November 4, 1918.

17.01.2022 What a gorgeous autumn Sunday morning on the Gold Coast beaches. The Major says it is our divine right to go to the beach, albeit with social distancing in mind. (some licence taken in paraphrasing his recent remarks) Plenty going for a walk and some in swimming. It was about 28C yesterday with a nice cooling sea breeze loaded with Ozone. Great for the soul.

14.01.2022 We were booked to go camping on Monday so not wanting to totally give up on the experience we decided to pitch the tent in the back yard, light a fire and cook some Marshmallows accompanied by sausages and drink some red wine... in no particular order...chaos rules.

14.01.2022 A new club formed in 2019
13.01.2022 The last practice performance before tomorrow's Schools Eisteddfod at HOTA on the Gold Coast. My daughter has practiced well for this one. Her Strings Ensemble got third last week.

11.01.2022 I have consolidated my beer photography website back into my main website, www.goldcoastphotography.com. I'll be emailing out to the breweries and agencies this week to update the contact details
10.01.2022 Today I visited the Gold Coast Gem Club to take a few pics of their activities for a possible Division 9 publication. It was very interesting to see the fine adjustments in the cutting and polishing of the gem stones and the silver work being done as well.

09.01.2022 Nothing to do with work at all. Each week I play Fantasy Golf on the US PGA Tour website. Around 26,000 players take part with this week being the final week of the season which started last October. The schedule has changed around a little this season partly because of the Olympics coming up next year which will disrupt the normal schedule. So I have two teams, one I could call Possibles and the other Probables to use Rugby Union terminology. My probables team is called Carrara Radar and is performing very well despite a few poor results earlier in the season. It's all for fun but it keeps me interested in who is performing well one week and who might do better the following week. Picking a tournament winner is useful but not essential to having a good score. I've beaten all of the experts panel bar one

03.01.2022 Sometimes you need more fingers than you've got...hence the images of my children's hands to aid my wife's kindy kids with their early maths.
