06.01.2022 Lets talk about the elephant in the room! MELANOMA MELANOMA MELANOMA Finding melanoma at an early stage is crucial, early detection can vastly increase your chances of survival.... Identifying a potential skin cancer is not easy, and not all melanomas follow the rules. Melanomas come in many forms and may display none of the typical warning signs. It’s also important to note that about 70 to 80 percent arise on seemingly normal skin. LENTIGO MALIGNA MELANOMA is an early form of melanoma in which the malignant cells are confined to the tissue of origin, the epidermis, hence it is often reported as 'in situ' melanoma. It occurs in sun damaged skin so is generally found on the face or neck, particularly the nose and cheek. NODULAR MELANOMA In nodular melanoma, melanoma cells proliferate downwards through the skin this is known as vertical growth. The lesion presents as a nodule (lump) that has been rapidly enlarging over the previous weeks to months. It can arise de novo in normal-appearing skin, or within an existing melanoma of another type. AMELANOTIC MELANOMA are missing the dark pigment melanin that gives most moles their color. These melanomas may be pinkish, reddish, white, the color of your skin or even clear and colorless, making them difficult to recognize. ACRAL LENTIGINOUS MELANOMA , the form of melanoma found in people of color, often appears in hard-to-spot places, including under the fingernails or toenails, on the palms of the hands or soles of the feet. SUPERFICIAL SPREADING MELANOMA is a type of skin cancer that slowly grows horizontally across the top layer of skin before moving to the deeper layers.
