There are new businesses and attractions to visit, some just opened in time for the peak holiday season: - Millie Mae's Pantry, very excited about this new gem of authenticity - False Cape Wines' new cellar door, it’s getting great reviews - and there's the new million dollar Prospect Hill stairs (for some exercise and awesome views) and - the new Kangaroo Island Sculpture Trail and swing bridge. Venturing further west there’s: - the Rebuild Independence Group at the American River Wharf and the The Oyster Farm Shop, Kangaroo Island Shellfish across the road - KI Tru Thai near Flour Cask Bay, with live music and a bar - The Islander Estate Vineyards cellar door (yes, they sadly lost their vineyard but you can still enjoy their stock of beautiful wines) - Cactus - Coffee, Food, Bar for cool food in Kingscote - birdwatching hides at American River and historic Reeves Point - the Kangaroo Island Brewery for great handcrafted beers - for unique local artwork visit the Kangaroo Island Gallery, Fine Art Kangaroo Island, Baudin Beach Artworks Gallery and Rustic Blue, there’s also an ongoing exhibition at the new airport - Kangaroo Island Spirits for your gin experience (seriously, I’ve lost track of all the global awards they’ve won!) - Frogs & Roses Garden Center, I can highly recommend their scrummy pizzas and cheesecakes (best base ever) - if you enjoy history, visit Hope Cottage Museum, the Penneshaw Maritime and folk Museum and the Parndana Soldier Settlement Museum - the Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Oil Distillery, I don't go a day without using their oil - Clifford's Honey Farm, their family farm-gate store sells many island products (don't leave without a little tub of their divine honey icecream) - Emu Bay Lavender, for beautiful food (and licensed drinks) and lavender products - sandboarding thrills at Little Sahara, Kangaroo Island, Kangaroo Island - Vivonne Bay Store is still serving its famous Whiting Burger - Seal Bay, the sealions haven’t gone anywhere! - beautiful Bales Beach next door and - Raptor Domain - Kangaroo Island Birds of Prey, who put in a mighty effort to evacuate their beloved birds and reptiles (twice!) If you time it right, there’s the Penneshaw Market on the 1st Sunday of the month, and the Kingscote Farmers & Artisan Market - Kangaroo Islandat Bay of Shoals Wines Kangaroo Island on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. The queue for D'Estrees Bakery - handmade sourdough micro-bakery is well worth the wait! There are sooo many empty holiday houses! Here's a few I can highly recommend (yes, I’m biased, they belong to my dear friends but I also know they’re wonderful places): - BlueSeas BeachHouse, D’Estrees Bay - La Brisa historic cottage, American River - Pelican Cottage, Kangaroo Island South Australia, Muston (near Pennington Bay) - A Dune Escape, Emu Bay Apologies to those I haven’t included, the point is, there are so many!
