25.01.2022 We're now well into 2021, the first month of which for us was as busy as it gets. Our techs have had all sorts of breakdown and larger repair work on the go, and we even threw a truck and a big Ford F250 into the mix. We've had the new engine go into the Mercedes Sprinter we got in last month, we have an engine out of an Audi A4 with a bottom end knock, we have an engine waiting to go into an X-trail, a cylinder head off a Hilux and in the midst of it all we're sorting out a track car for one of our customers that had an argument with a wall - we're transferring all of his trick parts to a new car. No job is too big for us!

24.01.2022 We don't always service or repair vehicles, sometimes we get to upgrade shiny new stuff! This beast of a Landcruiser with all the fruit came in for its first oil change service, and with all the extra gear on it the customer was chasing a little more stopping power. Given that an upgraded brake booster is already fitted, we've put some heavy duty pads all round with some slotted discs to help with heat management and give it that little bit extra bite.

24.01.2022 With the wind settling down and classic, crisp Toowoomba winter weather we decided it was a good day for Golf...

23.01.2022 As we roll into a 2020 Christmas that promises to be different to any other, a lot more people are touring more and staying close to home. In keeping with this, we're finding that we've been busier than ever keeping vehicles on the road in top shape. With just over 6 weeks to Christmas, it's important to get in and get on top of any maintenance items before you head out - we've already booked 1/3 of our available workshop time between now and the Christmas break. Call us now to reserve your booking!

22.01.2022 With the loss of Toowoombas Volvo dealership recently, we have had a large number of enquiries from Volvo owners looking for a new set of hands to maintain their vehicle. With over 10 years experience of operation focusing on maintenance and repairs on late model European vehicles, Advanced Service Centre has got it covered. Our team of expert technicians has access to the latest in European focused diagnostic equipment - we have everything we need to keep your late model Volvo in top shape.

21.01.2022 And normal transmission resumes - weve been absolutely hammered this week! Were in the process of tidying up a few jobs that weve had kicking around the shop - one of them is a tailshaft repair and a couple of tyres for this XR6 Turbo Ute with all the go-fast bits on it. These tailshafts are usually not repairable but the kind folks at Mal Wood Automotive hooked us up with some expertise to get it sorted.

20.01.2022 Clearance can be pretty tight in later model vehicles. Weve got a Rav 4 in the workshop at the moment, in order to get enough room to replace the leaky water pump and reseal the leaky timing cover, we need to remove the engine. Thankfully a lot of the newer transverse mounted drivetrain setups are designed for quick assembly in the factory (which makes disassembly a bit easier as well!).

20.01.2022 Theres not much room to move under this Golf R! We have a Mk7.5 Golf R in the workshop today for a heavy duty clutch and high flow turbo downpipe in preparation for a Stage 2 RacingLine Australia engine tune. While these engines are rated at 206kw in standard form, with the supporting mods and engine tune, we should be looking down the barrel of around 280kw. That should be a great gain for the owner!

20.01.2022 Were having a trucking good time at the moment! We have this Isuzu NPR in for a major service at present - well tidy it all up and send it back to a work site where it belongs.

18.01.2022 We had a couple of clutch replacements on the go last week. The most interesting of which was this Volkswagen Amarok which is a workhorse thats always dragging a heap of weight. On inspection we found quite a racket present from the front of the gearbox area and no drive. We removed the transmission for inspection and found the centre clutch splines torn away from the clutch plate! Weve removed the single mass flywheel and refitted the OE dual mass type unit to minimise driveline shock/vibrations and buttoned it all back together with a new clutch.

18.01.2022 We've had this damaged Golf R kicking around the shop for a few months after it had an argument with a wall on a track day. Unfortunately the chassis on the damaged car wasn't worth repairing so the owner has supplied us another vehicle to transfer a bunch of parts into. We've salvaged from the damaged vehicle a set of AP race brakes that we're getting rebuilt, some MCA coilovers, a trick turbocharger, exhaust, swaybars, fuel pump, and some other little bits and pieces. We've also replaced a damaged Milltek downpipe that's being adapted to the old car's exhaust by the folks over at Muffler Kings and fitted a big new PWR intercooler. With some guidance and some help with a new stage 3 tune from the lads at Harding Performance we've set the vehicle's suspension up for track use and this Golf should be very quick.

17.01.2022 Weve got this Amarok in today for a RacingLine OEM+ flash tune - with a 76kw/64nm gain from factory software, we can unleash the diesel V6 engines full potential.

17.01.2022 To finish our week of "lets work on the go fast stuff" we had a tech that had to fold himself like a library of origami to replace the water pump and some engine gaskets in this very cool, very British JCW Mini Cooper. If you have a British performance car, it HAS to be British Racing Green.

17.01.2022 Why tyre age is important - we had this Mazda B2500 utility come into us for a replacement clutch and a good check over. On inspection we found that while these... tyres technically have some tread depth left, they were manufactured approximately 8 years ago. Not only can tyres wear by tread depth, but over time the rubber can perish and split. If left on the vehicle, this tyre could eventually de-laminate the tread from the tyre which is every bit as unsafe as a bald/worn tyre. Weve replaced the two offending tyres on this vehicle along with the clutch and its now safe to be back on the road. See more

16.01.2022 We had a Tiguan come into us with an engine light on and a big lack of power. Turns out the intake manifold runners were stuck with carbon and the EGR valve wasnt too clean either. Weve replaced the manifold as the runner flap motor wasnt working very well and cleaned the EGR valve. Weve also cleaned the intake valves on the engine and now this little Tiguan goes like a rocket.

16.01.2022 We had this Volvo in with us last week to check out an intermittent engine light concern. Initially when we tested we couldnt fault it but after having a tech do a bit more driving we were able to replicate the concern. Smoke testing the air intake revealed a tiny wisp of leaking air from an air intake pipe between the two turbochargers. On disassembly we found a dirty big crack in the pipe that was hidden by the clamp! A new hose and some clamps later and were as good as gold.

15.01.2022 Weve got an Audi A4 in the workshop at the moment that has some drivability concerns and a persistent engine light. Inspection shows that some engine timing fault codes have set. Weve gotten the front timing cover off, and armed with the right diagnostic information and service tools have determined that the camshaft bridge that controls the variable cam timing is not reacting correctly. Well replace that and have this Audi back on the road no problems!

14.01.2022 This is what you DONT want to see when approaching your vehicles cooling system. Instead of nice, clear coolant of the correct colour (in this case red), we have a thick, oily goo thanks to a failed oil cooler which has caused the engine to void a large amount of its oil into the cooling system. Now we have to strip the cooling system down, replace the oil cooler and spend a heap of time flushing as much of the oily muck out of it as possible.

14.01.2022 Following up on the BT-50 gearbox we removed a couple of days ago... Uh oh, where are the teeth that should be on those gears? Oh, they're stuck to the magnet at the bottom of the gearbox... No wonder it was so noisy! The teeth on the main shaft aren't looking so healthy either...

14.01.2022 Is a motorhome without a motor just a home? We have this Fiat Ducato motorhome disassembled at present with the auto-shift manual gearbox giving its owner some grief. The customer has organised for the gearbox to go to a specialist and once its all sorted well reassemble and make the home back into a motorhome.

14.01.2022 We have had this Subaru Outback kicking around the workshop for a couple of weeks with some transmission issues - turns out one of the control solenoids wasn't doing its job causing some transmission fault codes. Buying new genuine parts requires the whole valve body to be replaced but we've been able to keep costs down for the customer by matching up a third party solenoid. We've fitted it up and now this Subaru drives great!

13.01.2022 We've got this BT-50 in the shop at the moment making some none-too-healthy noises from the gearbox. We've removed the gearbox and will tear it down to see what we're dealing with - stay tuned!

11.01.2022 This job can be so tyreing... We have a full set of nice, sticky Bridgestone Adrenaline RE003 tyres here ready to go onto a Golf R so that the vehicle feels sure footed and has some grip under it to go with the additional power we gave it not so long ago...

11.01.2022 Yesterday seemed to be Audi day... we had this V8 turbo diesel SQ7 in for a service and a V6 turbo diesel Q7 in for the installation of a RacingLine Australia stage 1 flash tune for some more beans. Whats not to love about that?

10.01.2022 We have a technician hard at it on this Mazda BT-50 at the moment. Its getting a little bit of a birthday with a new timing belt being fitted, and a number of engine leaks being rectified - to get at the rear main oil seal weve had to remove the transmission and clutch. While weve got the transmission on the ground well also see to the oil leak at the top of the gearbox. This BT-50 should have plenty of life left in it yet!

09.01.2022 We find that depending on weather conditions, we generally have a bit of a run on certain things. In summer its air conditioning concerns, in the cooler months this year weve had to replace quite a few thermostats. Weve had a number of vehicles coming in with some pretty random faults that weve been able to narrow down to a thermostat fault. If the thermostat sticks open then the engine may never reach operating temperature which can give all sorts of presentations such a...s: -Heater not working -Excessive fuel usage (modern vehicles run a different fuel strategy to bring vehicles up to temperature quickly) -Engine light/DPF concerns (many vehicles will inhibit DPF regeneration functions if the target temperature is not reached) In this case we replaced a thermostat on a T4 Volkswagen transporter for the heater not working. On inspection the leg of the thermostat is broken causing the thermostat to stay slightly open!

09.01.2022 Continuing the performance theme, we were gifted a pocket rocket Renault Clio RS to fit an upgraded downpipe to. Out comes the factory dream-crushing disappointment pipe and in goes a shiny stainless replacement. The sound difference with the new downpipe is impressive!

08.01.2022 The workshop at night when breakdowns keep coming in as quickly as were fixing them and sending them back out...

08.01.2022 We had this diesel Golf towed into us yesterday with a misfire and an engine/glow plug light presentation on the dash. Inspection showed an injector fault code and some compensation values that were none too healthy. Weve replaced the injectors with shiny new ones, programmed them in and now this Golf runs great!

07.01.2022 Well, well, well, what do we have here? Our friends at RacingLine Australia have sent us something that will put a spring in your step...

07.01.2022 Weve got a normally very tidy track ready turbo MX-5 in the workshop at the moment with a gearbox noise and the front of the vehicle covered in power steering fluid. Weve replaced the gearbox and the customer will take the old one to be rebuilt as a spare, and weve got a new power steering pump going on to replace the old one that cant keep its contents in by way of the front pump shaft. All just in time for the owners next track outing!

07.01.2022 Engine replacement time for this X-trail! This vehicle has had a radiator replacement before it came to us but hasn't run right since. Inspection showed engine coolant being present inside the bores where it shouldn't be and a general lack of compression. We're fitting a second hand engine to give this Nissan another lease on life.

06.01.2022 We had this SRT Jeep Grand Cherokee come into us with all 6.2L of its Hemi V8 glory come in to us with a notation of a major fluid leak at one of the front wheels. Inspection showed one of the electronically controlled front shock absorbers had left all of its fluid all over the place. A new set of front shocks and this Jeep can roar off into the sunset.

05.01.2022 Looks like Land Rover day! Weve got a Discovery 4 in for service and a Discovery 3 in to have a shuddering torque converter replaced. Weve got all the right equipment for Land Rover service and repairs all in-house.

05.01.2022 Today we have a 3.0L Mazda BT-50 that had a timing belt failure. Luckily through experience we know its very rare for inlet or exhaust valves to bend in this engine as the valves in the cylinder head are installed straight up/down rather than at an angle. What that means is that the valves and guides in the cylinder head should be fine, but theres not much left of the rocker arms. Weve fitted a new set of rocker arms as the owner has already fitted a new timing belt, and well send it on its way.

05.01.2022 We had a brand new Amarok Ultimate through the shop late last week to fit a full suspension setup into as part of its GVM upgrade - a complete set of heavy duty Bilstein shocks and a set of H&R springs should have it handling nicely with a nice uprate in load capability. Ready for this customer to drag his caravan around with!

04.01.2022 We had a Nissan Patrol come into us making all sorts of screeching noises under load. Our technician identified an exhaust leak at the exhaust manifold area so it was decided to remove the manifold for inspection. On removal we found that some of the gasket was just not there any more, the studs were stretched and the manifold had been so hot at the leak area it was discoloured and bent... A new manifold, gasket and some studs were fitted and now it sounds just like it should.

04.01.2022 It must be timing belt season... we had timing belt replacements left and right last week - the most common of which was the Volkswagen Amarok.

04.01.2022 We've had this older Hilux loitering around the workshop for a couple of weeks - it dropped all of its coolant courtesy of a failed radiator hose. Unfortunately it got a bit hot with no coolant in it which has caused the cylinder head to fail. We took the head off and also found a couple of broken timing chain guides which may have caused a little noise. In true old-school Toyota style the bores and pistons look great for a vehicle with almost half a million kilometers on the clock - a new head and timing chain kit later and this Hilux has a new lease on life and runs great!

03.01.2022 The techs in the shop have been busy! We did make time to reseal the camshaft carrier/upper engine cover in this 2.0L VW Tiguan though, as an upper engine leak left untended can affect the plastic water pump/thermostat housing and cause coolant leaks - thus increasing the cost of repair. Some liquid sealant and a couple of gaskets, a good clean down and this Tiguan is right as rain.

03.01.2022 We've got this Fiat Scudo in the shop at the moment that was making quite a racket from the clutch/flywheel area. After hanging the engine and tearing the front end apart we got in there to check it out. On removing some of the dual mass flywheel bolts, the flywheel started to rain bits of spring and general broken debris on the tech working on it! No wonder it was noisy... A new clutch and flywheel will fix that right up.

03.01.2022 The fight against carbon build up is never ending... before and after of an EGR pipe into the inlet manifold of a Volkswagen Passat. Should run a little nicer now.

03.01.2022 We had a diesel Subaru Outback come in to us recently with an engine light on and a lack of power. Turns out that some mice have eaten some rather important wiring to the fuel rail pressure sensor. A new connector and some other wiring repairs were in order. We also found a bit of a mess when we removed the inlet manifold for access so weve cleaned the intake system of soot/sludge as well.

03.01.2022 We've had a number of timing belt jobs through the workshop lately - most of which were routine but we did have this Mitsubishi Challenger come in making some abnormal noise from the timing belt area. Inspection showed the balance shaft belt idler pulley had failed causing the belt to destroy itself. Bits of the balance shaft belt were all over the place - luckily the timing belt didn't jump or we would have been in a world of hurt... a new timing belt kit with a complete set of idlers and tensioners will sort this one right out.

02.01.2022 Have some rust! This DSG Golf came into us with a mis-shift/poor clutch operation concern. Using our specialised Volkswagen diagnostic equipment, we were able to deduce that the clutch related learned parameters were way out of range. On removing the transmission we found a huge amount of rust/corrosion on all of the clutch components. A new clutch is in order for this one!
